I adjusted it by earball. Really sounds good and revs up quick and smooth.

I want to get it right, though.
What's the drill?

The spec is 35 degrees at 6000 rpm, I set mine at about 37 or 38, less popping from the carbs, runs great. Did a mileage check on the trip to the Riverside BBQ, getting 25.5 mpg at 80, whoo hoo.

These specs are for a stock 2.0 L six. If yours is anything else, double check your manual first.

Oh yeah, the flywheel is marked for timing and valve adjustment. I barred the engine over using a wrench on the crankshaft bolt below the fan shroud, look thru the small oblong hole behind the breather. I cleaned the marks using one of those toothbrush wire brushes, then highlighted the marks with white paint. Real easy to see now.

The motor is sitting on a pallet right now with a bus trans bell housing bolted on.

I can start and run it.
Can I set the timing off the front pulley?

Yes, The marks are just a lot smaller, might need to use one of those pot scubbers to clean off the pulley. 911's always use the front pulley.
