914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Heater Tube Bracket Clamp GAsket & HE ?

Posted by: bandjoey Oct 7 2012, 07:16 PM

I'm going to put the heater tubes on in a few days and have everything but the bracket gasket. Is it cork or ??. Can I cut one from gasket material in layers? About how thick?

ALSO, it looks like the HE is spot welded to the pipe. The spots have broken free and the HE part is movable about 1/2" front to back. Is this ok to use or does it need to be welded back down? Sealed to the pipe or just spot welded?

Happy Winter everyone! Let the heater questions begin!

What bracket? Pics?

The exchanger wrapping can be kept from moving around by putting a hose clamp around the tubes at the back. I wouldn't weld it again for fear of blowing through the pipe, which will put carbon monoxide into your cabin--which is not good when you drive, or any other time for that matter.

People who actually have skill at welding may have other opinions. I think the pipes may be a mild grade of stainless, so that is worth keeping in mind.
