I own a wrecked Nepal Orange 914
I just bought a signal Orange 914 that was painted black on the outside only, inside is the signal orange still. I don't know what to do about painting it-
Which color is better?
Nepal or Signal
could you tell the difference if i put all my Nepal orange body parts on the signal orange painted 914?

Keep it stock unless you plan on painting the front trunk, gas tank area, engine bay, and rear trunk as well. Color changes are worth less on resale. Is signal organge THAT bad to you? If you can't live unless you have Nepal orange, keep your eyes open for an original Nepal and buy it. Please don't release another color change car onto the world.

Who cares if youre car is color changed so long as it is done right and done tastefully!!!!!

Signal orange really grows on you...or at least it did me, I really didnt care for it until I picked up my most recent 914which is that color.
If you liked the nepal orange you will probably like the signal orange just as much.
So why not go back to the factory color?

and exactly how many cars have you seen "done right" ???
to do it "right" one has to strip and acid-dip the entire tub, then repaint ...

Done right is 0.5% of the color change cars. Or LESS!
Posted by: Root_Werks Nov 1 2004, 03:18 PM
I wouldn't color change myself, but L20E baby!

I was never a fan of doing a color change because most are done poorly. But she was white and I had to have signal orange!

Signal Orange!!!
Done correctly a color change looks good. THis tub was completely mechanically stripped before painting. It is a lot of work to do a color change and get good results. But if you really want your favorite color....

MarkD,
What's it matter if he does a color change? You don't paint (Brandon does)
I vote for Tangerine

GOOD JOB AND GOOD FOR YOU!!!!
Nobody said that doing a color change is easy and that the majority of them turn out bitchin as a matter of fact most of them turn out like shit because most of the people that attempt them either dont know that much about 914s or what all is involved with doing it properly. As far as value is concerned I have already accepted the fact that it will be a looooong time before I get my money out of my teener whether its stock or modified. People make me double over and laugh when they cringe at me for color changing a "factory six"! Whats even more funny is that most onlookers whether they are veteran teeners or not dont even realize its a color change to begin with unless they check the karrman body tag in the door jamb. Anyhow I plan on being intered in that car because I finally found the one I want to keep!

To all of you colour change CW's
I like my signal orange originally white (ick) colour change 914
My 914 is a CW's dream car with a colour change.
It was done quite nice with no over spray in the trunks etc.
It's got a few dings in the paint and I'll probably repaint my "white" 914 again...in signal orange.
I don't care it's my 914 :finger2:
So you can kiss my signal orange colour change 914's....

For all of you who don't like my choice in painting my car...
I took a Delphi Green Metallic
73 and painted it Bahia Red. I hated the color, but loved the car. Now I have the color I want.....
The car was taken down to a bare chassis and repainted, including underneath, the engine compartment, and both trunks.

My car is a poster child for a color change being done "wrong." The door jams are orange, interior is all orange, trunks are orange, engine bay is orange, and the rest of the car is blue.
Im on my way to doing it "right". Stripped interior, engine, trunks, seals, etc. and a full respray.

Both of mine are signal orange - love that color.
The new one - is white - I can't take a white 914, so I am looking for a nice yellow, it is for the wife and that is her favorite color so that is what it will be. But then it will be faster than mine - wait can't have that white it is.

Dude, that is AWESOME, its also the ONLY way to do a proper color change, and just a bit too "committed" for most.
Posted by: Mark Henry Nov 1 2004, 08:25 PM
See, I'd rather have the best 914 I could get for my money then I'd change it to the colour I want.
Those outside of the fair state of Calipornia can't go 914 shopping on the bases of colour alone.
Yes, I have seen bad colour changes, but done right it's fine. I do admit a white 914 is an easy colour to work with, because it's a base colour.

But most of the guys who say they don’t like colour changes also don’t like rear reflectors….

I’ve also been told my negative stripe isn’t right, because it doesn’t wrap around the fender lips.
Oh yeh... my rims are wrong...I do have a set of fuchs..they are on my squareback.
