I have a 914 and have heard somethings about supercharging a 914 2.0 but i want to know if you can and if you can is it worth it
Anything can be supercharged. The hard part is trying to drive it off the motor.
The experts say "NO"
I'll wait till Tony Bray gets through fooling around with his 912E for judgement.
I got two words for ya. E-RAM!!!! NUF SAID
I see no reason why not. Its all in the packaging.
Depends on how your currently setup FI vs Carbs & how good you are at setting up ignition & fueling would be one factor.
Next is what type of charger to use. Roots vs Scroll. Then how to get the thing turning Belt Vs Chain.
However a turbo would be easier to install. Look for one with a oil only cooling system. Negates you having to fit a water system. Exhaust pipes already go to rear of car so relatively easy hot side plumbing. Cold side requires a intake & a pipe connecting to intake runners.
All in though its quite a lot of effort either way, but i'd be a cool project to see.
Wild idea you could have 2 small turbo's. 1 on each bank. Feeding into a intake plenum to even out boost differences across sides. Has that been done before??
rpm in port orange florida did it years ago, they used a roots style blower and used a factory ac front crank pulley to drive the blower. it was carbed with a smaller holley as i recall, they had a few atricles in vw&porsche( european car) about it. I have all the magazines from the early 780's to mid 90's ....i will try to dig it up.
yaya, I remember this kit.... it's the one I have been looking for since 1986.

Ford 3.8 Supercharger (Eaton) - upside down, driven off the "behind the fan" a/c pulley. Weber manifolds, with one off intermediate tubes and a square plenum - hmmmmmmmm - Creative one might say.
Uhhhhh, why does the exhaust come off the side of the head in that picture?
You can supercharge anything you want if you know what you are doing.
You will be limited to around 4 or 5 psi boost unless you modify the stock fuel injection. driving the unit is a PITA but anything is possible.
BTW there is an urban myth floating around that twin turbos are better than one.
In almost all cases that is not true, especially on a type 4.
If you spend an incredible amount of money on R&D you can make two small turbos work a little better than one, except on a type 4.
if you don't have several million laying around forget about twin turbos. it just isn't worth it.
When Charleton Heston screamed, "YOU DAMNED DIRTY APES!" he had the same look as I have right now... mike..
Slits must live in a pyramid, he stays pretty damned sharp.
