I negotiated a group rate and have 15 rooms set up to start, The rate will be $99 a night, it's not a Motel 6, but not the W, but a good older hotel that will have a parking lot for us to "meet" in and they're ok with us BBQ'n in the parking lot.
There's not a lot of choice in that area that will meet our needs. This should meet our needs nicely.
I'll have the group code for the rate in a few days.
2 Queens or King room. Not a ton of savings but $10-$20 a night less.

Sweet! I'm ready
My Son is getting married on the 15th. I'll miss you all.
I'm looking forward to this!!
Nice ! How far is it from the airport ?
Yahoo!
Now I have a deadline for my car...
My wife has found that the Shiloh Inn has a VETERANS rate, it's only $89. Look for a dropdown in the rate area.
That savings pays for my gas.
If you have time the Bandon Game park is on your route, it's pretty cool.
Ok, I've got to figure out how to embed the map. I probably have the most fun route I can imagine, though running up the coast sounds incredible. My route is 10 hours and some change and goes through mountains all the way. I think a night in Klamath Falls to split it up but it looks like the drive of a lifetime...
Also, Here is a proposed road trip that takes about 2 hrs. Detour to ORP at lunch for a parade lap & BBQ/Lunch at the FinnSport garage.
I've driven about half of this route and it is sweet! In the spring, ill drive the 216/197 route and check it out.
It take about two laps at 100 MPH just to warm up the tires and brakes!
Stone Hedge and the mueseum and the park are pretty nice , 20 miles up the river
As of right now, I'll be there with my wife. But she doesn't really care about track or AX events. Are there going to be other wives there who would like to join her in sightseeing, wine/beer tasting or other events? Local knowledge?
Jim
There are a great number of local attractions, museums and events in the gorge area. Significant others who are not interested in car related functions will have plenty of things to do and explore.
Here are a couple of links:
http://www.historicthedalles.org/
http://www.el.com/to/thedalles/
I created a list of a number of other interests and will provide that info (and more) as we get closer to the event.
Back ion the 80s we took the 75 914 to Seattle, up I5 and back down the coast. We planned a 5 day trip back, going over to Long Beach and then South. Took 4 days to get to Eureka, CA. There were enough RVs, moving road blocks and reasons to stop on the highway to keep our average speed down to under 40 mph.
Beautiful tri and we'll do it again if we have more time.
I will get this on my calendar and hopefully can block out any other things that might pop up. Pretty sure the wife will join too.
Hey Mark, Can We book a room Now?If the wife come's she'll go with the other wife's doing something other than the track day.Hope to make this one , looks like a fun drive.Mark ,do they have room for a trailer? John
The wife and I will be there Teener-less but there none the less. She isn't into track days either. She is into shopping, spa days and Museums. A happy wife is a happy home!
I should be there with wife and Pugs, is the hotel pet friendly??
If not, I'll bring the MH and find a RV park nearby. If no wife and no Pugs, then no problem.....I'll drive the 914 on her own.
I have not checked, but a call tomorrow would answer the question. I too have a pug that I'm sure my wife would love to bring. I have the day job tomorrow, would you mind checking and posting back.
Thanks,
Mark
Those with dogs are O.K. They have pet rates.
My reservation is in. I'll have my wife, and my 2 youngest kids with me. My wife and daughter will probably do their thing while me and my son do "manly things".
Looking forward to this!!
BTW, I may not be in the 914 this year. The Squarsche is almost more fun to drive than the 914. It's way faster too!!
Booked . I'll be there in my v8. Hopefully the LS1

I have got to agree with Rich. Get a 914 ready to do battle with Greenie
This isn't going to be a Kit Car Convention.
Looks like I'm in for sure. The Dalles Inn is dog friendly even has a pug on the front page, just incase the Shillo inn won't accmodate. I'll figure something out to keep the wife and Pups busy this time so I can go out and play
http://www.thedallesinn.com/html/dog_friendly.html
Rich, you need to make this. I went to the last one unemployed. TC wants you to smell his pugs. No excuses. And bring Troy. Speaking of excuses... But if you make him take showers he won't smell too bad.

"K-I-T C-A-R" whaaaaaa????
Just imagine the humiliation Greenie would feel when he gets beat in his "too pretty to drive like a man" Porsche by an old, "VW station-wagon" I know the local winged Honda fart-cars don't appreciate it much. . .
"Just imagine the humiliation Greenie would feel when he gets beat in his "too pretty to drive like a man" Porsche by an old, "VW station-wagon"
To think that I whupped up on you guys with old worn struts and only one functioning wheel bearing....
New struts and bearings all ready to go for this coming June.
Bring your big boy pants!!!
Attached image(s)
I'm booked!
Now I have to get my car running... But if not, I will pull a "JRust" and trailer the non running car just for fun...
Hold on Tony, dont you have that big'ol RV thing to park your Pug's in?
-
Rand I DO want to come but things are ...*tight*, to say the least.
Hell, If'n Id made it to Corvalis, Greenie would still be LOOKING for his Big boy pants!
Actually Ive got two irons in the fire right now (finally), one IS going to land me a job, but as a new employee I wouldnt have any time off......
I'm booked!!!!
For some reason the girl taking the reservation didn't know anything about the 914 world or Porsche event, hope I booked the right place ????
I requested a lower room facing the pool, looks like a good place to relax after rambling all day
I am still thinking of the RV but the wife may need something to drive if I leave her behind
days off are part of the hiring negotiations..Hello
Greenie is not in Charge of Himself..The General Says Whats What....

just heard (via email) that we can share Oregon Raceway park the weekend of June 14 with another club!!!! Once I know the exact details and cost, I'll post them here.
I believe that it is the ORP club and they stepped up and committed to that weekend knowing that we had reserved rooms in the gorge.
I will definitely have the zonk ready! ( maybe even the polizei fake!)
I cant possibly miss another event with Greenie bent over his car!
Sooo theres a pool?
Booked a room. Planning on arriving the 12th and do some sight seeing. The lady I talked with was aware of the 914World group rate and set me up.....they know we are coming .
Going to try hard to have my car back together by then and make it there.
The Dalles is probaby about 300 miles from Moscow and would be the perfect shakedown cruise.
Track time will be cool!
Booked! Be there on Thursday with the wife.
Booked my room will arrive on Thursday. The Lady I talked to didn't know anything about our event and said that the contact has not been confirm, and will give us the group rate when the contact gets confirmed. John
We have room for the cars in the back. I think I could pursuade mamagement that we have hirred security to watch the cars so we could sneak in 1 RV, but I'm pretty sure we would have a problem with more.
Hey Mark, I'll be towing up and will park my trailer in the back. Hey Mike Bellis are you trailering your car up? And what day are you leaving? I'll be leaving wensday morning about 11:00 am. I have to do my Dailysis first then I can leave, will be hitch up and ready to go. If you want to follow let me know, going up US-5, I know boring but going to go as fast as I can in comfort. Let me know (925) 706-8628 home, (925)354-7370 cel# John
I'd hoped to make my first one.
But my middle son is graduating from Oregon State on Saturday.
I guess that gives me an extra year for my rustoration. LOL.
eric, a 300 mile shake down run prob isn't such a good idea. 300 or less before you set out to work out any bugs might save you major hassles. by the time you get home it'll be over 1000. seen it a few times...radiator failure on a v-8 conv, shift bushing go kaput, wheel bearing adj, cables...
k
...not that you need any help, but here is a link to some videos on the track. The cool thing about ORP is we can run it both directions... I prefer CW in a car because its more challenging (blind apexes, off camber exits, etc.) but it is not for novices IMHO. Ive done CCW on a bike and felt more comfortable as to apexes and visual clarity, so we could do CCW the first few sessions to get people comfortable and then go CW if people want.
Either direction is a blast to drive and will challenge even TC, should he join us from the far south

Calling Jakeodoule to the white courtesy phone! I see you lurking son. Are you coming out for this one?
My car is done for now.....and ready to go.
Not sure when I'm leaving yet, depends on what job I'm working on, too soon to tell.
Probably leave sometime Thursday at the latest.
Jeff
Reservation confirmed!
Finally got off my but and made my reservation.
Still figuring out the itineary and confirming a few things, but we will have the t shirts and other items finalized in a few weeks.
-Mark
Just booked our room for Thursday,Friday & Saturday.
Five months away, we can't wait.
This is going to be a blast!!!
I'm most likely moving to Eugene, OR at the end of March...so I might be making the drive a little bit further North, for one day at least!
I've got to make one of these get togethers!
Linda & I will likely be there and make it part of a vacation. We love the area and we had such a great time at Medford that it will be great to go back to Oregon. Unfortunately, I'll be sans-914. The 2 trips we've made with the Eurovan Camper towing the 914 have resulted in radiator fan failures while crossing Nevada. We're just not going to take the chance anymore on towing.
Here's a groupon for an activitiy that will be right thre for those that are interested-
http://www.groupon.com/deals/the-columbia-gorge-discovery-center-and-wasco-county-museum?p=3&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&sid=bfecdf2e-210e-4150-9615-777b27e26038&division=portland&user=66ed97c36b4c31161c91363ad749b426b3344ee26ded58dbae3dc9c4ac85b0ec&date=20130118&s=body&c=deal_img&d=deal-page&utm_campaign=the-columbia-gorge-discovery-center-and-wasco-county-museum
I have to think long and hard if Greenie is going! Will there be Sheep?
Looks like I'm out
My nephew is in a program for at risk youth sponsored by the California National Guard. I (ex-Marine) am his mentor. He graduates on June 14 @10am in San Luis Obispo. Smack dab in the middle of WCR. As much as I want to be there, family comes first.
I have considered all options but it doesn't make sense to race on Friday afternoon to Oregon just to make the end of WCR. There are no airports (with a flight) within 1.5 hours of each location.
I am cancelling my reservation in OR and booking one in SLO. My new goal is to have the car running for a trip to SLO. Then a nice ride up the coast with my wife.
See you guys next year!
Trying to coax DR Evil out to play for an abreviated tranny clinic.
We got beer...check
Sheep ..... available
what more can we do?
Oh, and I asked Doc what an abbreviated tranny was. I was thinking, you know, like remove first gear or something. Then he told me the story of the surgery that went wrong. Gives a new meaning to limbo.
...Ok, sorry, back on topic now...
The idea would be to have the doc help assemble a few transmissions over the course of a few days. It would require dissassembly cand cleaning prior. The doc would work with those that wanted to do this prior via the internet, and could assess the required parts prior to the even to bring along. So basically just assembly would occur at the event.
Thoughts?
Booked room. The guy new nothing about 914 world so I booked as a vetran $89 per night.
Now to get car off jackstands and running.
Page 4
I'm just wondering about what type of lunch I need to pack for Saturday?
Can I bring a friend?
You got it John!
Is there a schedule of events and cost to attend the WCR 2013? Or did I miss that thread.
Thank You!!!!
Phillip J. Haun
Oak Harbor, WA.
from page 7!
I cant open the 2nd page, is anyone els having trouble on the 2 page opening, cant see it on my computer or phone for a couple of days!
Not sure how but I plan to attend, would be great to be driving my 914 but not to likely cant seem to get a hold of mark by email or phone, time to drive over
Drop me a PM here. The registration will open up this next week.
-Mark
Look forward to the event!
Count me and the family in as well.
Me thinks I shall bump this as I wish to attend and wish many others feel the same. Even "the wife" feels this warrants an attendance. She just doesn't want to be "That Girl" as the competition at these events for "That Guy or Girl" can be legendary! :worship:java script:add_smilie(":worship:","smid_36")
Track day info:
ORP has graciously added the WCR weekend to the ORP club schedule. All three days (Friday - Sunday) are available to those who want lots of track time.
Single Track day cost (including catered lunch) $400.00
The attached pdf explains more regarding the cost. If you are "local" and plan to do more track days, part of the fee can be credited to your membership and the cost of each subsequent day goes down.
Further, as the sponsoring member of the ORP Club, I am credited an amount for every person who joins. If you join, I will have that amount additionally credited to your account (rather than mine) to help defray some the of the cost of membership.
Again, if you are local (seattle, PDX, Etc.) and want access to lots o' track days, this is a great way to get track days!

For the sunday trip out to ORP - (Planning lunch and possibly a parade lap and a photo op on the front straight.)
Here's the route that I suggested to Mark & Jamie. I have driven most of this (not from ORP to Dufur, yet ) lots of twisties and great scenery.
Mark & I need to firm things up regarding the Lunch - but I'm sure we can do the parade lap!

What's the T shirt look like, did I miss it?
And what would be the cost if you wanted to order extra T shirts
Jeff
Im Paid and registered
Let me know if I just sent money to albainia or some 3rd world country
Just finishing up the artwork for the poster, working on the shirt design with the art guy next. Extra shirts should be 10 or 15 bucks depending on volume, long / short sleeve etc. Not set up to print them myself yet, otherwise I would do it, so we are at the mercy of a "professional" shirt print company. However I will get some extras done and have them at the rally. Patches, extra posters maybe some stickers and other swag should be available then too!!!!
I've got Mike on getting these posters together and we'll be sending these out to a few local shops and dealers to help pump the effort. We have registered the website WCR2013.info that I need to build and poster will reference the site. I want to pump the event for the VW and Porsce community to maybe draw in a few new members.
A little cross promotion will not hurt.
More to follow-
Mark
I'm new to the world, I might be interested in coming down as I have to be in Vancouver anyways June 16th to cheer on my then 14 year old son on his 1st full marathon.

The Mobile Security Command post.
Ill have to keep up the standard set by Joe Sharp
Attached image(s)
Right on Rich Are you bring the Cazadores also?
Im sure Ill have to have some libation on hand.
This whole effort is low budget so perhaps Ill swing by the Costco for some Tequila by the Barrel!
I'll bring the Cazadores Tequila if you bring the shot glasses and whatever else Joe used? I just drank the stuff, I never asked what else was in there other than Te-kill-ya! Oh was it good though!
Bump from page 3
I will be there driving my jeep and towing my BBQ pit (the same one that was at WCR 2011 in Medford, Oregon) Unless we don't need it?
I will also be bringing a few things to give away from this place! The owner donated Three (3) cases of beer (22oz bottles) and some beer glasses! (just like in Medford)
Bare Island Blonde Ale
Named for the scrappy Bare Island in the middle of Upper Klamath Lake, this blonde ale is sure to please any hard worker. It has the strength of a microbrew, yet stays on the lighter side. Its crisp flavor, a characteristic of a Vanguard Hops ale, is smooth and refreshing after a long day on the job. So kick back, relax and enjoy. This beer choice will hold up for the long run. Available in 22 oz. bottles or draft. (2011 Award Winner)
4.3% ABV 20 IBU’S
Glasses from the Brewery
Crystal Springs IPA
Like the sparkling and impressive Crystal Springs we find in the Klamath Basin, this ale steps away from the crowd, to a place where clarity comes naturally. Our India Pale ale is rich with complexity but the taste is simply awesome. Citrus and pine hop flavors dominate the aroma of this Northwest India Pale Ale while allowing malt flavors to linger in the background. Indulge yourself; you won’t be disappointed. Available in 22 oz. bottles or draft.
(7.1 % ABV 70 IBU’S) 2012 Award Winner
Drop Dead Red
Inspired by the gorgeous redhead whose temper was as reknown as her beauty… or so the story goes. This palette pleasing ale will appeal to your sultry side. Its flavors find a balance between toasty and nutty, while the roasted malts impart the deep red hue. Available in 22 oz. bottles or draft.
(5.9% ABV 52 IBU’S) 2011 Award Winner
Vanilla Porter
Vanilla dominates the flavor of this robust porter while chocolate and coffee flavors linger in the background. Brewed with a blend of vanilla beans, this delicious porter is sure to please even the most discerning beer connoisseur. You don’t need an excuse like pouring rain or drifting snow to come inside for this porter. Simply take a taste, and you’ll find yourself enjoying one of life’s finer creations, regardless of what mother nature hands you. Available in 22 oz. bottles or draft.
(6.7% ABV 40 IBU’s) 2012 Award Winner
Still need a few parts and then assembly. It'll be close but very much want to be there!

Nate that is sweet looking ride!
....Very Cool
I remember that beer from Medford, thanks for bringing the love Drew. Just sent my $ so I'm all in!
[b]IMPORTANT WCR UPDATE!!!!!!!!!
I just called the Shillo inn to change my CC info. Turns out they had a server crash and lost ALL future reservations !!!!!!!
I would recomment EVERYONE call and re-establish their rooms
I spoke to Josh 541-298-5502
I have a hard time believing that Shilo Inn doesn't have some kind of redundancy in there IT. It would be really bad for business to lose reservations.
With that said - I will check my confirmation # at their website.
This is TRUE, They lost all their records!!!!!!
I just had to rebook my room for the weekend. Do call and confirm your reservations
If you are a Vetran, book as a vet and get room for $89 a night, then just bring
Any kind of ID to prove it.
Just checked my reservation on-line - still there.
Might want to make a call..sorry guys. I figured they would be a little more organized as this is a larger locally owned chain.
-mark
the guy just told me the computer crashed and lost a lot of data. They had to take all my information again. We have a Shilo Inn down here.
Thanks for the heads-up! They did indeed lose my reservation. All good now!
I'm going to be at the hotel on Wednesday afternoon. The wife wants to start the vacation early!
Pic from 2011 in Medford. Using to the thread!
What time are the Seattle boys heading out???

These pic's are from the 2010 WCR in Tahoe!
Just tried to book a room at the Shilo Inn...they're booked of course! Something about a wild bunch of car nuts that weekend!
I can only make it for Friday evening and Saturday morning so I only needed a room for the night. I have parties on Saturday in Eugene and graduations in Portland on Sunday.
Then my wife says Hotels.com has a room available there for $79!! I say! I book it just waiting for it to tell me it's not available... Well, I just got a confirmation email saying its booked,
See you all Friday!!!! Check Hotels.com if your late to the party like me. $86 total,
Gotta love a wife like mine!

About time you showed up to the party Stephen. Sure hope you plan to come out to WCR & enjoy the weekend with us
Just back from the R Gruppe Trefen in Solvang, Ca. This will be much easier.
Rooms are available at the cellio inn just across the freeway. A bit more, but the view is incredible.

I'm stuck at work for the weekend. There is no way I can make it.
Maybe next year?
There is a good local event happening this Sat. The flyer below gives you the info. Sat may be a track day. But for any that want to cruise in the area, this would be fun, and the local car guys would love it.
Hope to see you there,
Stephen
I'd be down for that! Since I'm heading back home through Portland on Saturday afternoon, that would be a welcome pit stop!
Looks like I'm not going to make it, too many things getting in the way.
Decided to stay home and put the time and $ into my shop.
Maybe next year....at Least I get an expensive T shirt.
Have fun,
Jeff
on the way home monday i may stop at carson hotsprings (hotel st martin) in carson for a HOT! geothermal water soak in a 6ft tub. when you're done with the soak, about as long as you want if there's no one else waiting for a tub, you lay on a comfy cot while wrapped in a sheet and blanket with only your face exposed. while soaking you drink the hot eggy tasting water. you sweat like crazy. shower up and you feel like a new man. your crap stench for the next 2 days is unbelievable but your digestive tract is well cleaned. you up for a try jim?

I'm leaving home on Wednesday morning (1 day early) and plan on arriving 5 1/2 hours later at the Shilo. No BBQ trailer is coming but I do have beer, cazadores and crown royal! See you all there!
ELLIOT, are you there yet?
Thanks for room warning. They lost my res also. I think, hope I'm set up again. See everyone Thursday. I hope my car is ready. Cutting it close as usual.

Wasn't sure how things would work out, but it looks like I can be there for the Friday night BS session at least. We'll see what happens from there...
Im here! They put me in building "A" which faces the parking lot.
