914World.com _ 914World Garage _ let's invite Alfred back...

Posted by: Lawrence Nov 4 2004, 09:15 PM

Hell, some of the stuff posted today was just as objectionable as what he posts. Apparently, our standards have changed.

Browse some of the "hot" threads for today... political in nature.

Posted by: ws91420 Nov 4 2004, 09:26 PM

Alfred is on PP picking arguements w/ Jake. I'm tired of that.

Posted by: rick 918-S Nov 4 2004, 09:26 PM

I started to read some of the funny stuff but I couldn't get past a funny comment from Sir Andy. I'm bored with it all now. I'm looking for car stuff to tweek my interest. BTW: Hard to believe a regular 914club guy or gal could be as bad as Alfred.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Nov 4 2004, 09:28 PM

See.. I dont even read any of the threads that could be remotely political. I just STAY the FUCK OUT of the thread and keep my mouth shut. Much easier to deal with me in public when you have NO F-ing clue on where I stand politically. There is NO room for it here. It divides people that otherwise have gotten along just fine until the "political" issue is raised and sides are taken. I have had the *pleasure* finger.gif of listening to political rants/raves for the last several weeks in the shop. I dont care to "hear" more about it in the one place I use to "get away" (the club site)

Anyone should be invited to participate here.

Having said that, all content should focus on 914s. There are way too many OT diversions, and the site is becoming diluted.

It's not always true..

Even though it's obvious that Bleyseng and I are near 180 degrees about what we want out of politics, we agree 100% on wanting to be patriots, and make it work for us. (US)

I had to leave this place for what.... nearly 2 months... because I was told no politics, and then everyone's avatars, signatures, and member titles were turned into indoctrination messages.

See, that was wrong.

Admins:

First sign of political "anything" delete the thread. If the person starts another thread... ban them.

Let Jeroen decide the fate of his own thread.

I wont have it. I would be big time enemies with several people on this BBS (good friends currently) if I went round and round with them in political stupid debates that end with NO winners.

Dont like my decision... go back to Rennlist and see if JD likes it.

I've changed my position on this. I think we should ban politics from the board. The constant bashing of anything government related, or California for that matter pisses me off. There isn't a reasoned debate - it's just a constant flame war.

We should also implement a feature that allows people to delete their own user accounts.

I am closer to wanting it today than I have been for a while.

Any objections ?? I'll be face to face with Andy in an hour. I'm betting he doesnt have ANY issue with "our" new policy.

Having browsed some of the posts from today, I'm wondering if some have forgotten that although this is a 'faceless' forum - there is still a basic issue of respect that should not be forgotten in any messages that are posted.

I admire everyone who posted with passion about their particular point of view - to the extent that those posts were presented with respect for your fellow forum members. It is inevitable that in a forum with such a variety of members, the collective will not be of the same mind - whether that be about a V8 conversion, the value of cats or politics. This forum has, with few exceptions, encouraged open communication and todays posts are an example of best of that openness and the worst....the worst is, in my opinion, an unfortunate side effect of communication within a medium that doesn't require you to look someone in the eye as you express your thoughts.

I'd like to suggest that before any of us hit the 'add reply' button that we evaluate whether or not both the opinion and the delivery of the message are representations of how you'd like to be known on this forum.

Be respectful of your fellow forum members - enjoy and embrace the differences that make both this forum and this country great. We have all shown that we have a tremendous capability of pulling together in times of crisis or when a forum member needs support - that spirit shouldn't be lost during our daily time in the 'garage'.

If people cannot control their emotions prior to typing... we will help "moderate" them quickly.

Pam nailed it.. I'm just not quite as smooth as she is...LOL

Bottom line:

Dont show up to the 914club "garage" and start slinging shit. You will be escorted out.

Roger that. I'm going to bed.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Nov 4 2004, 09:57 PM

I left the shop early with a headache only to come home to another one.

B

Posted by: seanery Nov 4 2004, 09:59 PM

they both started out friendly enough, but then people feel the need to curse at folks. I kinda thought we could let it roll, hell, a couple of us participated. Some people can't discuss it. I won't delete Jeroen's thread, he's a big boy. But, the other, I could give it a roll. I expect the arguments to continue in Jeroen's thread though.

Dan Fogelberg's voice sucks now. sad.gif While not a big fan, he did have a lot of hits when I was young. Just watched him on Soundstage on PBS. I was disappointed. sad.gif

Posted by: Lawrence Nov 4 2004, 09:59 PM

I've specifically not closed or deleted any threads in forever... my job is registrations and classifieds.

I agree with your call, though.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Nov 4 2004, 10:01 PM

Sean is the most level headed of us all. He can do some of the police work (if he wants too) Check out the admin forum before you head off to bed. We need to vote on another admin I have been thinking about. A very neutral level person in the midwest.

Should also think about a east coast admin.

Can't figure out why my battery goes dead. I have something running it down. Takes a couple of days. Can the Alternator cause this? How about the MDS. It's wired directly to the battery.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Nov 4 2004, 10:03 PM

Unless the MSD is switched ON. It wont drain the battery.

LOL

B

Posted by: redshift Nov 4 2004, 10:04 PM

How about the regulator? I'm running a bosch.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Nov 4 2004, 10:07 PM

Miles would be the only person in our admin group who would figure out how to BAN everyone but himself.

LOL

Rick.. check your email buddy.

Yes. Your alternator can certainly drain the battery. If you have an Optima.. get another one I have had 6 brand new ones DIE this year.

B

Posted by: Bleyseng Nov 4 2004, 10:07 PM

Get Qarl to admin he's not busy either.

Thanks for the reply Brad. I wish I had an Optima. Still on the Walmart Special. I've ruined 2 battery's in the last 3 months with my charger. I'll start disconnecting things one at a time. I'll check my mail now.

Posted by: Jeroen Nov 4 2004, 10:16 PM

Personally, I don't take any offense in anyones political opinions. I agree to disagree with everybody.
In my book, political discussions are just like any other and I like them for the sake of argument and nothing else.
I never liked or disliked someone because of his political standpoint and I don't think I ever will.

Then again, I'm just an arrogant asshole, so you couldn't piss me off if you tried biggrin.gif

I'll leave it up to the other admins to close/delete these current threads.
I honestly don't care if you leave em up or not

Posted by: Brad Roberts Nov 4 2004, 10:19 PM

It causes tension. The people who dont respond are the ones who sit back and make mental notes.

I "know" you. I know you are a laid back person in real life.

I will however start calling you the "Spoon" because you can STIR up more shit than other person I know...LOL

B

Posted by: redshift Nov 4 2004, 10:20 PM

I wouldn't have the time, normally... as of late..

But, I promise you all, I do have what it takes to be biased for the task, not for myself.

Admin work can be hard around here, I have seen Sean take Alfred down 11 times in half as many minutes...

Kudos guys..

You are all banned..
