NAPA sells small boxes of the clamps at a good price. They have 10 in the box. The part number is 705-1226

Posted by: The Cabinetmaker Dec 30 2012, 06:23 PM

Napa, oreillys, auto zone, the bughaus. All sell them

Posted by: jimkelly Dec 30 2012, 06:26 PM

my local napa guy had no idea what i was talking about when i asked him about them the other day. i should have brought an example with me.

Posted by: Gint Dec 30 2012, 10:14 PM

I get 'em at the local chain parts places all the time. Haven't check NAPA, but I never had to because the others have them.

I believe they are called fuel injection hose clamps vs. just a hose clamp. I also have been able to by at local FLAPS.

Looks a little bit oversized, but maybe comes with the pic.
(Thicknes of material) I am using thinner types to prevent
hose damages (Pressure loss)

German Market, Google Search = "Spannbackenschelle"

Those clamps, the Napa photo and the German, both work the same way. The only difference is the thickness of the band material, and I don't see how that could affect performance or damage the hose. Same width and surface area.

Whew, Nine 14, you had me worried there. I have three or four BMW's in the garage with those Napa fuel line clamps. Couldn't deal with any more balls of fire between my legs. biggrin.gif

That's what i have said, the thickness.

A friend of mine is working for mercedes company in a german workshop.
The Mechanics are directed, not to use those clamps in the fi system and i do
same.

At least we are talking about an product with worth of a few cent.

The second photo there shows something more like "constant torque clamps." I use them for everything with larger than 1" diameters. Much stronger than fuel injection hose clamps or radiator hose clamps, but the range of diameter is much smaller and they take a while to thread on or off. So you really need to know the exact size of initial free outer diameter and how far it down it should clamp before you buy them because they're spendy. But it's total clamp porn. I get them at the local Aeroquip dealer here in Portland.

Having said that, fuel injection hose clamps are perfectly suitable for fuel injection hose clamping.

The "real" FI clamps have rolled edges, not flat like the ones pictured. While better than the worm screw type, they're still not right.

The Cap'n

All manufactures do same .... it's a tightrope walk between cost an reliability
Private mechanics have eyes for everything, but at last for the costs.

This is for the Capt'n smile.gif

Ah, hose clamps and FLAPS

Last time I bought a box was for the numerous venting hoses coming off the Vanagon gas tank.

Pretty disapointed when a year later I found out that EVERY hose clamp had fractured, and all were hanging loose. I just love doing things twice. dry.gif

One of the two goals of a product is it has to work, and it has to be low in cost (and still work).

China and FLAPS. Maximize profits, minimize usefullness.

seems to be some lively discussion going on - and no one is using duct tape biggrin.gif

the pn for 5/16 rubber hose is 705-1226 (medium) (they were out of stock at 2 napa locations)

I agree with the Cap'n. I sure wouldn't use the ones in the pictures with FI. If they don't have the rolled edges they can bite into your fuel lines. I didn't have a problem finding clams with rolled edges at FLAPS last time I looked. Have they become scarce?

Posted by: stugray Jan 7 2013, 11:00 AM

I had the same issue.
After spending over $10 a foot for the best fuel line you can get, I decided I shouldnt use 10-cent hose clamps.

I searched and found these at Jegs:

They dont bite into the hose like the type with the open slots.

You can also find the other kind that have the rolled edges so they are not so sharp, but as mentioned above, they have a much smaler range of hoses that they can work with:
