Hello all and thanks for your interest.

Heres some figures for you;

Taco plate
£32 each for 1-4
£31 each for 5-9
£29 each for 10-24
£27 each for 25-49
£25 each for 50+

Tuna can
£45 each for 1-4
£43 each for 5-9
£41 each for 10-24
£39 each for 25-49
£36 each for 50+

Shipping
£8 for 1 Part
£2 for each additional part up to 10 parts
£1 for each additional part over 10 parts

As an example if you order 10 taco plates and have them shipped to the same address they will work out to £31.60 each including shipping, which is less than the £32 for just the part. Or better still if i can make 25 for you then they will be £28.64 each including shipping. But for 50 they work out to just £26.32 each includng shipping.

$$$$ - To give you an idea of the exchange rates -

£31.60 GBP (the shipped cost for each taco plate if ordering 10) will work out to appox $50 USD.

£26.32 GBP (the shipped cost for each taco plate if ordering 50) will work out to appox $40 USD.

Hope this helps, if you want more info/prices etc just let me know.

Cheers,
Neil

EDIT 1/22/13 - PRICE DROP ON TACO PLATES, NOW ONLY £27 each mueba.gif

As of Feb 1, the count on Taco Plates is 31, @ £27 (currently $42.75) each + shipping*

... and the count on Tuna Cans is now 45, @ £39 (currently $61.75) each + shipping*

* Not sure how the shipping thing will work yet. If a participant can accept a shipment for a group of buyers in your local area, shipping costs could be reduced a bit. I'd be willing to accept a shipment for the local Los Angeles/OC guys, then we can figure out how to redistribute them once they're here ...

If you're located somewhere else in the country, possibly you or another participant in your area can handle your local region too confused24.gif

Otherwise, it appears that shipping would to your individual address at the rates shown above.

I'd like to get 3 silver Tunacans.

Posted by: 914_teener Jan 3 2013, 12:02 AM

Mark,

Thanks for organizing.

I am in for the Taco and Tuna.

I am assuming they are universal for all cases. (cases as in displacement)

Let me know payment to uk in Euros? That wasn't clear.

Posted by: 914_teener Jan 3 2013, 12:04 AM

OOps.

That would be silver in both cases. (Taco and Tuna) Thanks.

Good questions, Rob.

Neil discussed the Pay Pal and exchange rates in one of his other threads. You will pay via Pay Pal with USD, Pay Pal will convert to GBP.

All T4 cases are the same in regards to these parts fitting.

This whole thing just kind of fell into my lap, so the particulars aren't exactly dialed in yet.

When I set up a fender flare GB from AA, all the participants sent their payments to me and I cut a single check to George. Payments included shipping to each individual participant's address, so it was easy to deal with because everybody paid the same exact amount.

With this GB, some participants will be ordering different quantities and may also prefer shipment to their individual address. Others may opt for shipping to centralized US locations for redistribution, so this would cause differing total charges for each participant.

My thinking right now is that it would be easier if each participant chose their shipping preference and pay Neil (jonsey) directly.

For those who choose to participate in a centralized shipping method, the total shipping charge will need to be added up and equally divided between the participants. For example, KaptKaos' order (1 Taco and 1 Tuna) shipped to my shop along with my order (1 Taco and 1 Tuna) would incur a £14 ($22.75 USD) shipping charge. We would each pay £7 ($9.09 USD), rather than £10 ($16.75 USD) each... ($7.66 savings for each of us) big savings, eh?

If any other Los Angeles 'locals' would like to join in here, the total shipping savings would add up, and end up being even less for each individual. Boy, are we CSOBs or what laugh.gif

Then, we'll have to determine how each participant would take possession of their parts: pick up at my shop, or I bring to an upcoming event, or ... confused24.gif (to be continued) ...

Of course, these are just my thoughts at the moment, Neil may have some input as well ...

Mark,

I just notice a correction... some how you have me down for a 'taco plate'....please delete this as I only need the tuna can... As for shipment,
I might as well have it sent directly to me vs me having to fight traffic to your shop....sorry and thanks.
Last question, when do we need to pull the trigger on this?

Posted by: Racer Chris Jan 3 2013, 07:55 AM

For any other Northeasterners who are getting in on this GB, I'm happy to be used as a payment/delivery hub if it saves us a few Pounds ($$).

Posted by: 914_teener Jan 3 2013, 10:57 AM

Mark

Ok...I don't mind having to go to your shop to pick up if it will save on shipping.

Seems to me the more the merrier on the manuf. costs. and then ship to your shop.

So contact Neil and reference the GB is what I am hearing.

My misunderstanding, Peter. I created the list from what I read in both of jonsey's Classified threads. I assumed you wanted one as posted in the Taco Plate thread confused24.gif

I'll update the list accordingly ...

I know this might add a bit more confusion to the mix and i apologise for that but i thought i should let you all know that i can offer the taco plate and the tuna can in either black or silver.

If some of you have no preference on color then thats cool.

As for the delivery and payment options, i think maybe its best to see who wants what first and then we can discuss the best way forward.

Cheers,
Neil

I think it is a good idea to let this GB go till the end of January at minimum. It will allow Jonesy to start work on the vast quantity and will allow more peeps to get in on the GB, potentially getting us an even better deal ........ biggrin.gif

Posted by: Racer Chris Jan 5 2013, 07:01 PM

$66.64

I can take one more tunacan to save another $3 each.

I'd be willing to receive the entire shipment from England and distribute it via Priority Mail if that will save people more money.

Good going, Chris ... now I have to recalculate everything slap.gif ... laugh.gif

and thanks for catching my typo ... yes it's $66.64, or it was before your addition order (it's now $63.39) smile.gif

The dollars shown in the right hand column are an example of the savings over having the items shipped from the UK to those particular individual participants, and the list is not cast in stone yet, so those #s could change a bit.

Most of the 'LA' guys (except for Val) are fairly close and the orders can be distributed from here without reshipping. Val may reconsider a shipping method if it's only a few dollars confused24.gif

I just ran a spreadsheet for this option using the current piece total of 17+25=42.
To start with I used the "socialist" method and divided all shipping equally per unit.
Import shipping per unit works out to $2.25 and US delivery average works out to $2.05/pc.
This assumes one package delivered to LA containing 10 pcs, for $10; No delivery cost for 8pcs to CT, $6 for one or two pieces and $10 for 4pcs everywhere else.

This also assumes I can ship 2 pcs together via Priority Small Flat Rate, rounded up to $6. If the Tunacan is more than 1 5/8" tall, that may not be possible.
Using this method, anyone ordering one of each will pay about $119.44 at the current exchange rate.

I'll re-run it with each person paying actual shipping for his order.
Some people will pay more, some less that way.

Chris 35.49mm is the total height. However there is a recessed step of 6.6mm

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks.
It means a taco plate and a tuna can will easily fit in one small flat rate box.
So cross continent shipping for one or two is $5.35.
3-10 pieces is $9.62.

It looks like the LA group would pay $3.29 per piece total shipping, vs. $4.56.
Someone receiving one of each would pay $10.01 total shipping, vs. $19.56.
I'll repost the spreadsheet in the morning after making adjustments.

Are the tuna cans easy to install once the engine is together? It may sound like a dumb question, but.....

Does the taco plate accept the stock sensor?

If so, count me in for one of each black preferred.

Let me know who needs the $$

Thanks!

Yep, just have to drain your oil get the gasket and seal ...

My understanding is that the Taco accepts stock sensor and OEM seal and the Tuna accepts OEM gasket, strainer and cover.

Payment details haven't been nailed down yet. I proposed that each participant pay Neil directly, but that could change if 'someone' wants to handle that portion confused24.gif . Personally, I don't want to collect the $, especially Pay Pal payments.

The iffy thing about GBs like this one, is there are always a few that sign up, but don't follow through, skewing the numbers for everyone else.

I'd hope all those who are on board are actually committed to this shades.gif

Jonsey can you confirm this ?
My recollection was that original design Tuna can's had no solution for an application of the OE strainer? Picture?

Also this may have already been answered but the OE temp sensor location was angled I assume for clearance and possibly to avoid smackage of swingy bits internal to the motor? Since this mount puts it at a 90 to the case is it now lower?
In other words does it mount proud of the bottom of the case much like the Tuna can?

Posted by: euro911 Jan 8 2013, 01:40 AM

Nord, when the GB is finalized and the actual costs are known, maybe you could send a check to one of the other participants and have them add your purchase to their payment confused24.gif

Posted by: euro911 Jan 8 2013, 01:46 AM

Rich, it looks like the taco plate wouldn't sit any lower then the engine mounting bar confused24.gif

I may be wrong about the strainer. I don't remember who posted something about a modification to use the strainer, but maybe it was for the old style tuna cans. I'll try to find the post type.gif

EDIT
Found it. It was relating to the old style can.

I modified my strainer to use it with the tuna can. Dont forget the new gasket and what ever you do DONT over tighten it.

Havent had the chance to fit it yet because i am waiting for a pair of new seals to fit.
May i sugest organising a bunch of these for each kit as you will need 2 for each kit and it's a pain having to wait for 2 suppliers
Looks like some good buying to be had here.

Attached File  TunacanGroupBuy.xls ( 32k ) Number of downloads: 164

I added a column for Paypal Fees in the event someone collects payments from everyone else.
I am willing to be the hub for payments if we go with single payer to Jonesy.
However, Paypal adds a significant cost to this option.
The only way around it is using the Gift option or sending check/money order.
I don't know what Paypal's policy is regarding Gifts, how closely they monitor it or if they apply fees when a payment doesn't fit their accepted model.

I already purchase strainer seal kits in quantity and could add these, as well as a taco plate seal kit if desired. I haven't found a good source for the little hollow copper washers yet though.
The line between GB participant and vendor is getting a little blurry. blink.gif biggrin.gif

I would prefer a single payment and thats really what i based the discounted group buy prices on.
Paypal gift option works fine with no problems, how can they decide how many friends you have that want to send you a gift ; )
The only fees that paypal apply with a gift payment is if your sending money in a different currency. So the buyers paying you Chris won't be a problem.
However, you paying me will incur a charge. If paid as a gift i will pay this fee (you choose who pays it when you make the payment) as otherwise its not fair on you, unless you divide it again between all buyers... but lets keep this as simple as possibe and i'll just pay it.

Neil

I need an answer to this until I commit to the can.

I like the idea of Chris being a hub as it would seem that the shipping costs will be greatly diminished if he wants to take it on. Besides I think I will spring for the MPS kit since I have committed to stock FI.

So Chris will you do that?

A) Yes the stock strainer can be utilized. That's a key feature IMO.

B) I'm fine with taking care of collecting payment as long as people use the Gift option or send a check/MO.
I have the infrastructure for distribution and most of you are already in my postal address book.
Neil prefers a single payment as I suspected he would want anyway.

I'll let Mark keep up the paperwork until the "enrollment period" ends.

No payments until after closing and we calculate the correct payment for the exchange rate and number of pieces ordered.

Just a quick note:

Yesterday, Jim Hoyland and I were just discussing what seals and gaskets were required. I can get gaskets and seals from Pelican, they're local.

You may need to add another column to the .xls type.gif

Interesting side note, Pelican used to be a mile away from where I worked in El Segundo, then after I retired, they moved to within a mile of my shop. How's that for customer service laugh.gif

Posted by: '73-914kid Jan 9 2013, 11:34 AM

If you're on it, let's say the motor is spinning 4k RPM. That's 67 revs per second. Loss of oil pressure for one or two seconds will trash bearings at that speed. Anything you can do to prevent loss of oil pressure on these motors is a great idea.

Yeah, I know. smile.gif
I already buy strainer gasket kits in quantity for my service customers.
The problem is mixing a simple Group Buy cash transfer with a business transaction.
I would be committing fraud if people sent me money using the personal transaction feature but a portion of the payment was actually being used for a commercial transaction.
So to keep it legit I would have to take a separate payment for the seals.
I'm not ruling that out, but...

Updated Spreadsheet:
Attached File  TunacanGroupBuy.xls ( 31k ) Number of downloads: 134

See Post 95 for more current spreadsheet.

I can do strainer seal kits for $2.50 and Taco plate seal kits (oem O-ring and 2 oem hollow washers) for $8.50.

I think I want to have the shipping paid for in a separate business paypal payment instead of being part of the personal payment for the Jonesy group buy. That will keep me from getting in trouble with Paypal.

I added columns in my spreadsheet to account for this, and filled in the first three customers as also buying the seals - for an example.
The shipping and seal payment calculated on the spreadsheet includes the appropriate paypal fees.

Edit: had to reload the file after correcting a formula.

Shipping will be no problem.
I created a Paypal Add To Cart button and put it on a hidden webpage. The url will be supplied to everyone in the group buy.
The button menu will allow each GB participant to pay the correct shipping for his order, along with seal kits if desired.

I added your order to the spreadsheet and now the imported price for one of each is down to $116.03. Add shipping and seals in a separate payment of $17.08 for a grand total of $133.11.

Edit: Updated spreadsheet link added. I corrected another formula error and added Dasnowman to the list.

Hey Jonesy, I asked for one of each item but it looks like I should have asked for gaskets for both as well. I would like both pieces in SILVER. How long are you running this group buy? I assume we wait till it's over and we have a total item count before pricing is finalized. Is this correct? I'm surprised there is not a group from the NorCal/SF Bay area. I'm assuming my items will ship directly to me. Will you be contacting all the buyers with totals when the group buy has ended?

For all who haven't followed the entire group buy thread -
Jonesy is the manufacturer of the taco plates and the tuna cans. He is in England.
However he isn't organizing this group buy.

Euro911 is behind the organization of this deal.
I offered to handle the logistics as well as sell the seal kits because I have the business infrastructure to do it efficiently.
Euro911 is keeping the list of participants updated on the first post of this thread.

He has posted that the deal closes on 1/31/2013.
At that time, I'll start collecting Paypal payments.

You will be expected to make two payments to me:
1) pay for the items you ordered using the Personal Payment option so I don't incur a fee for receiving the payment. I'll pm you the payment and paypal address.
2) pay for delivery and any gaskets you want, using a webpage link I will pm to you all at the appropriate time.

No one will know the exact price they are paying until the deal closes and I finalize the spreadsheet. Variables are the exchange rate and the number of items in the final Group Buy tally.

Feel free to organize a group shipping plan to the bay area or anywhere.
Just let us know what you come up with.
However, the savings for group shipping is only a few dollars so it may not provide a meaningful benefit.

Posted by: no1uno Jan 19 2013, 10:50 AM

I'd like to add an additional tuna can to my initial order of one of each. Make them all silver, please. I'd also like to order the seals required for 2 tuna cans and 1 taco plate.

Roger, those are the correct gaskets for the Tuna. The Taco takes a rubber O-ring and two small crush washers

The gasket issue was an after thought.

I'm keeping the GB thread updated. Chris is doing the same on an Excel spreadsheet. I'd be updating it as well, but I can't seem to be able to download and open it dry.gif

Again, the GB will close at the end of the day on Jan 31st. ... then just like the obamacare health bill, we'll find out what each of us will need to pay (which will be quite a bit less than buying these components individually from Neil).

You can save a few dollars by grouping.
The choice comes down to how easy it is to meet up with the one who receives the package.

Right now your 4 pc order ships cross country for $9.62 in a Regional Rate A Priority box.
I can fit quite a few more pieces in the box without any added cost.
The LA group has a dozen pieces, so 9.62 divided by 12 = 81 cents per piece.

I'm not going to accept shipping payments until the parts are sent from England, so you have time to work on the idea.

Here's the latest spreadsheet:
Attached File  TunacanGroupBuy.xls ( 35k ) Number of downloads: 106

Taco Plate price reduced to 27 pounds sterling.
Exchange rate went down a little more.
One thing the spreadsheet doesn't reflect yet is postal price increases due to hit at the end of January.

Here's my current payment plan:
GB closes Thursday night.
Friday I'll post the final spreadsheet and will PM people my personal Paypal address.
At that time I will take payments (no fee please) for the Taco Plates and Tunacans with import shipping only.
I'll post who has and who has not paid and keep the list updated.

We need a deadline for receipt of payment. Is one week sufficient?
If anyone doesn't pay it will affect the price of everone else's order, however, I have a plan for this possibility.

When we reach the payment deadline I will send our group payment to Jonesy.
As soon as I have an arrival timeline from him I will release the url to a webpage with Paypal button I created for the seal kits and delivery payments.
Paypal pricing will be adjusted to make up for any discrepancies due to exchange rate or dropped orders from the first payment.

This method ensures that everyone pays the correct amount.
It ensures that the Group Buy isn't on my company books but the seal kits and delivery are on the books.
It gives people more time to change their mind on group vs. individual delivery and on the number of seal kits they want.

I have no problem getting it with my laptop running Vista though.

GOT GASKETS? idea.gif

Posted by: 396 Feb 1 2013, 03:51 AM

Some how this has turned into a unofficial group buy. And then with the addition of the gasket kit from Chris...how much do we owe? Ps I've only requested one tuna can and gasket set. Do I PayPal Chris or? Sorry to ask as I've not been following this for a few weeks now.

Thanks

Here is the Jonesy info from the first page of this thread. I thought for 'individual' shipping and no gaskets, one would just pay Jonesy (the maker of these parts) according to the costs below:

Hello all and thanks for your interest.

Heres some figures for you;

Cheers,
Neil

As of Jan 31, the count on Taco Plates is 33, @ £27 (currently $42.75) each + shipping*

... and the count on Tuna Cans is now 45, @ £39 (currently $61.75) each + shipping*

Jonesy is not the organizer of the GB, and he clearly does not want individual payments to be made for a group buy organized by someone else.
I'm helping Mark S., who started this deal, by handling payments and distribution.

Chris' post #91 outlines how this GB works.

When all the numbers are crunched, all payments will be sent to a special Pay Pal account that Chris has set up.

Each participant will be notified as to how much to pay for their order.

When Chris receives payments from all the participants, he will send a single payment to jonesy for the entire order of Taco Plates, Tuna Cans and shipping from the UK to the US.

Chris will receive a single shipment from jonsey and will be distributing (US shipping) to the participant's locations (either group shipping, or individual address shipping - each buyer's choice).

For those who chose LA group shipping, their orders will be shipped to my shop in Harbor City. All the rest of the orders will be shipped to the individual's addresses as noted. You folks will need to provide Chris with your shipping info.

As Chris stated in post #91, you will be expected to make two payments to Chris as follows:

1) You will pay for the items you ordered (tacos and/or tunas) using the Personal Payment (Gift) option so he doesn't incur a fee for receiving the payment. Chris will pm you the payment amounts and the paypal address.

2) You will also pay for delivery and any gaskets you want separately, using a webpage link I will pm to you all at the appropriate time.

Stay tuned ...

Hey, I am not on here 24/7 and NOT trying to ruffle anyones feathers. I was just going by the information that Jonesy sent to euro911 which included 'shipping' information down to just one part, which would indicate shipping to an 'individual' directly, with one payment to the seller.

Since I ordered the taco plate, it would be nice if I could hook it up. Does anyone happen to know if this gauge can be put into the brake warning light area on the fuel gauge?

I can ship one out straight away for you if you send me the total in UK pound (GBP) via paypal to boatyardbuses@aol.com

Paypal will make the currency conversion for you. Just select GBP from the currency list, and they will take the amount in $ (USD) from you.

The total will be 40 GBP via airmail, or 45 GBP via airsure (with tracking) shipped to the USA. Tracking is not usually required as I have no problems with shipments to the USA.

Cheers,
Neil

Does anyone have the VDO part number for the oil temp sender for the taco plate?

Posted by: Bulldog9 Apr 30 2018, 06:49 PM

Well, I'm finally getting around to installing my 'tuna can' and plate.

After a nice drive to warm up the oil I got #770 up on jack stands, drained the oi, dropped the sump (NO metal shavings and only a VERY small amount of goo on the mag drain plug or the sump cover w/ big magnet)

SO I pul out the bags with teh tuna can and cover and bolt with washer and see this top hat looking thing. I'm assuming this is a spacer that goes inside the tuna can. WHich way does this thing go? The Rim is closer to one end than the other. Does the rim go up or down?

Also, dumb question, but where do I put the gaskets on this contraption? I'm planning on one between the cover and tuna can, and between the can and sump screen, but am thinking I need a 3rd between the sump screen and case? Yes, I am still a Neub.........

Hope everyone is well! I ALMOST bought a 914 at the Swap meet last week, a real nice white car..... ALAS, SWMBO didnt give the thumbs up....
