I have noticed that most photos of original condition teeners show a Porsche crest on the hood, but mine doesn't have it? Were they options, limited editions, additions, what?
not original. they've been installed by the (previous) owners
Original /4s never had them. I think the /6s did.
None came with them. mostly installed by PO. Some installed by Dealers when new upon request.
"What's Authentic" - Mexican food in Mexico...
as far as I know, the Porsche crest wasn't available from factory even not for the six
only a couple of prototype cars came with it
some were dealer installed, others by owners
Yup...same with the A/C, radios and the antenna....oh and those stoopid Riviera wheels.....
Rivs are even too uglee to be boat anchors.....
As to radios and antennas....there is always an exception...but if you see a 914 for sale with an "original radio"...it's more than likely bullshit....
I was going to make a clock with a porsche wheel as the face (original... i know), and I have 4 rivs sitting there. But I dont want that piece of crap on my wall!
I have two Fuchs clocks....I get a lot of compliments on them....except from the wife. They have been banned in the house. Only need one in the garage....prolly ebay it....
The 2nd Porsche 914-8 was the only 914 type to ever carry a front badge out of the factory.
Badge is probably worth about a million bucks ... and it comes with a neat car attached !!!
I would love to see a Certificate of Authenticity for a 914-4 showing a radio as an option. I've never seen it but it's possible one will show up some day. That would be cool.
Jamie, the badge comes from the 911. Resist the temptation and keep your hood original.
If you look at page 33 of Brian Long's book you will see a 914-4 prototype with a hood badge. Also there a couple photos on page 34 showing a badge on a 914-6.
Apparently the factory put the badge on some prototypes, but no production cars.
If you like to look, go for it. It is your car, and you should enjoy it.
Ok....no bitching about for sale in the garage area OK?

The first one is a flat model made from a three piece wheel....this one was in a fire and is warped......

Both were made by Concour Weenie Don...the original Don of Don and Glenn's Barbeque fame.....rather sell the first one.
I paid $175 for that and $250 for the warped one....
Dad's Delphi green mistress has the original factory option AM radio as illustrated in the 73 Porsche Owner's Manual(pg.16) He saved all the original documents- bill of sale shows $89.95 for AM radio, dealer key tag, ad brochure, maintenance record with dealer stamps- he was an engineer- what else would you expect! The radio is a push button with bar dial, the first that my 16 yr. old nephew had ever seen!
BOTH wheels were off wrecks....
Damn got to have one of them clocks. I will just add this to the list of things to do this winter.
Buy it or trade for something....
would you trust official Porsche documents?
here are some prise lists:
September 1971 - model year 1972 - Austria
model year 1974 - Germany
model year 1975 - Germany

If I remember correctly, when I picked up my new 1974 2.0 car at the dealer it had a Blaupunt Frankfort radio that was factory installed.
