914World.com _ 914World Garage _ The demise of the Koenig/Scheel seat

Posted by: davesprinkle Nov 11 2004, 12:27 PM

I just spoke with a representative of the US importer for Koenig seats (Tunig Zubehor, 805.526.9577) and found that the Koenig 914 seat (previously manufactured by Scheel, originally designed by Recaro) is still being manufactured in Germany. It can be special ordered with a 4 or 5 week lead-time. The seat costs 249 Euros, which means that here in the States, we can expect to pay about $375, once Uncle Sam, Fedex, and the current lousy exchange rates all take their cut.

Check out the Koenig web-site:
http://www.koenig-sitze.de/

When you get to the site, click on the seat icon labeled "Speedster". That link will take you to another page with two seat pictures. Both seats appear to be identical, differing only in the shape of the headrest. The observant 914er will notice that the captions on the pics are swapped. Although I don't speak German, I feel comfortable making the assumption that "Der legendare 914er sitz" means "The legendary 914 seat" and should be associated with the picture on the left, which has the proper headrest shape.

But enough picking nits -- I'm glad it can still be purchased.

Cool, I have a pair of these seats and I was trying to contact the american rep to ask him a question.

-The question was what is the frame of the seat made of, steel or F/G (the tops of the seat are rather narrow for drivers with wide lats) I guess the factory GT seats with the 'wave' shape in the upper part of the seat were there for a reason,

-also how do you remove the headrest once it's installed (mine went in but can't come out for that GT look)

...perhaps you could ask your contact for me, since I can't seem to get intouch with them. Other than the two problems listed above they are great snug seats!

I spoke with the guy once before. But I didn't like the "style" of his seats. He's supposed to be searching into his databanks to see if he can find the Miata seats and adapt them to a 914.

Worth repeating: Really nice guy.

there's no need to speak german, the site is available in english, too ...

tell me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the left seat called "The classic Speedster seat" looks more like the 914 seat ... idea.gif

So long,

Correct, they have the pictures flipped on the seats.

For those wondering here is the factory GT seat with the 'wave' at the top of the seat and no headrest:

I bought a set years ago and it was way to tight on the ass.
I wear 32" jeans so I don't have that big of an ass.
I sold them on ebay and the guy I sold them to turned around and sold them again on ebay because of the same problem.
Can you buy them in multiple widths?
Besides the width problem they were very nice seats.

$1000-$1200 isn't that bad for a nice set of seats.
