914World.com _ 914World Garage _ weber 44 setup

Posted by: sealgray71 Nov 12 2004, 10:44 AM

I have a 1971 914 i bulit a 2.2 motor and have put on weber 44's. I m having alot of problems with the proper setup. I have the Weber carb book and the shotty instructions that come with the carbs. Does anyone have pics of their setup or a tech page on the setup?

Since you posted this twice - I'll reply here....................

What part of the setup? Are you having trouble with the linkage? The setup I can take an image of uses the "bus" style linkage. The crossbar aftermarket is very simple.

Whaaaazzzup.

I think it is the cross bar. if you give me your e-mail i can send you some pics of what i have so far.

What cross bar setup do you have? Here is my configuration up of the CB performance setup, this works well on my car but I have seen it done differently. I am running 44's on a 2.0 with no problems.

(Thread highjack) Sealgray, how does your S4 compare to the subaru?

aircooled.net has some good tech articles and an instruction sheet on installing the crossbar.

Thanks for the pic cleared it all up.
The S4 is awsome it has it all lux speed looks. but the sti is a beast. it has no lux but loads of speed. the auto cross about the same i have alot of susp. and eng work done to both but the sti inches out by a sec or so in autocross. but it has about 40 more hp to the wheels. sti-322 vs s4-281 @the wheels. both just cool cars. and i can not tell you witch one is better. (i love Germen cars)

Thanks Eric

Eric, I take it you have chipped the S4 I am planning that for mine soon. driving.gif

I think the 914 and the Audi are complete opposites I don't know which one I like best.

I know I know.

I bet you are not opening the butterflies at the same rate. They are either equal starting out and synched up. and then one carb lags behind when at WOT. For some dumb reason thats how all three of the linkage set ups I have operate.

What I did was shorten the stroke of the carb that opens too fast by drilling another hole in the hex bar arm. about 1/4" back from the original hole. You can do this at the carb throttle shaft but the location is much more sensative.

sometimes i think a dual cable system would be easier....

with that being said.... my CB linkage is great

OMG......Webber 44's w00t.gif drooley.gif drooley.gif drooley.gif drooley.gif
44's excite me just to listen to them accelerate... happy11.gif
Sorry, cant help you with the adjustment. I had 44's on the VW, and had to play with the linkage and venturies several time to get them to run properly.

But when they did, watch out! burnout.gif Hella fast!
Loved em! wub.gif
