914World.com _ 914World Garage _ welding on the car, with engine

Posted by: Elliot Cannon Jan 30 2013, 04:56 PM

Can I MIG weld on the car with the engine installed? The only thing electronic is the pointless distributor. Do I disconnect anything besides the battery? Does the gas tank have to be removed?

So. Are you saying it's NOT a good idea?

You should have no problem unless you decide to weld on the fuel tank.

If you had an ECU, it should be removed from the car. As said, disconnect the battery.

Make sure you disconect both the + and - of the battery!

If you have a CDI unit for the ignition I would disconect it from the ground also!
