Ok guys,
The enrollment period is closed and it's time to pay up.
Deadline for payment is 8AM eastern time on Monday 02/11/2013.
I'll send reminder PMs this weekend.
Anyone who hasn't paid by the deadline will be dropped from the group buy.

This is only the first of two required payments.
Right now I'm only taking the amounts which will be sent to England for the items ordered and import shipping.
The second payment for delivery and seal kits will come after the order is placed with Jonesy.

Here is my personal Paypal address: racerchris@sbcglobal.net
Please select the Personal (no fee) option.

I sent a message to Jonesy today to get a better idea of turnaround time.
If the timing works out, I'm happy to ship your parts along with a fuel lines order at no additional charge.

I say we let anyone who pays this weekend into the buy.
Prices are as follows:
1 taco plate = $45.97
1 Tunacan = $65.53
1 of each = $111.50

Quantities are already large enough that one additional order hardly affects the price.
Only if we reach another price tier will the adjustment be significant.
The exact price will only be determined when the transfer to Jonesy occurs.
I'll be adjusting for any changes in final per part pricing when the delivery and gasket payment amounts are finalized next week.

Due to some issues that have cropped up, I will not be able follow through in time for this GB. I do not think it will affect the price for anyone. Please accept my apologies.

Sorry guys....things cropped up and got busy...my apologies. PM's sent.

Waiting on one more payment before placing the order with Jonesy tomorrow.

Posted by: Racer Chris Feb 12 2013, 11:40 AM

Payment for 28 taco plates and 41 tunacans was just sent. Today's exchange rate is the lowest I've seen.
The approximately $40 left over is being rolled into the delivery payments.
I've adjusted the payment prices to reflect this.

For instance, the LA group will only pay $0.85 per person for delivery to Mark.
Individuals who are receiving both a tunacan and a tacoplate will pay $4.50 for delivery to your door.
Individuals receiving only one item will pay $5.50 for delivery.

02loftsmoor and Dasnowman - use the $8 shipping payment to cover Paypal fees taken from your first payment.

Canadian delivery will pay $19.75.

Add any number of gasket kits at no added shipping cost.

To pay for delivery:
go to http://www.tangerineracing.com/groupbuypage.htm

The pulldown menu contains 5 shipping price options and both seal kits.

Select the appropriate shipping option and add it to your cart, then go back and add any gaskets you want before checking out.

Feel free to browse my website and add other items to your order.
Any excess shipping payment will be promptly refunded.

I'll send out PMs as needed to poke.gif people who need more motivation.

A couple of payments came in late. Added funds were sent to Jonesy for anoher taco plate and 2 more tunacans. Post 1 was updated.

Jonesy acknowledged receipt of payment and is working diligently on our parts.

I'm glad the delivery payment method is working. smile.gif

Posted by: clapeza Feb 13 2013, 10:10 AM

Chris,

I need a little clarification, please. If I need shipping for the taco plate and a set of seals for it, I order:

the seal kit: $8.75
plus shipping for 1 item: $5.50
or 2? $4.50

Making my total $14.25 or $13.25?

...or is it that shipping is PER ITEM, so ordering 2 items is actually $9, making my order total $17.75?

Chester, if you go to Chris's 'pay page', type your screen name in the box, your total will be displayed.

NO, that's not how it works Mark. I didn't set it up to be that sophisticated.
I only added the screen name window in case I needed reminding who is who.

Delivery price is based on items ordered from JOnesy.
The number of gaskets you want doesn't count. They ship at no added cost.
So for Chester the delivery payment is $5.50.

I set up the pricing so Paypal can have their fees without me losing $$ in the deal.

Feel free to browse my website and add other items to your order.
Any excess shipping payment will be promptly refunded.

I'll send out PMs as needed to poke.gif people who need more motivation.

icon_bump.gif
Just to reiterate -
To pay for delivery:
go to http://www.tangerineracing.com/groupbuypage.htm

The pulldown menu contains 5 shipping price options and both seal kits.
Select the appropriate shipping option and add it to your cart, then go back and add any gaskets you want before checking out.

My guess is those who haven't paid didn't read the pm yet.
I'll email those who still haven't paid, once I get a shipment confirmation from Jonesy.
There's no problem with a few late payers on this end of the deal because they won't hold up the rest of the group.
I can ship to everyone who has made the delivery payment as soon as the parts arrive.

If you haven't made your SECOND payment yet, please do so.

I've just looked back at the post i put up and it shows that the files have been downloaded by a number of people, so i'm presuming you can download PDF files.

Can anyone confirm that for me please.

Posted by: r3dplanet Mar 29 2013, 01:45 AM

The files will show that they've been downloaded even if the download fails, which it does every time. That number you see more accurately reflects the number of download attempts.

There have been many mentions of this bug over the years on this forum. Since there is no ability to send attachments via personal messages either, then it usually defaults to sending documents directly via a user's e-mail address, or to a web link. If you can publish the document on some other website, then you can provide a URL to that address in a message here.

I'm just some random IT guy. I'm not an admin here so all I can do is observe.

Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 via Verizon FiOS. I think it auto sources Adobe for PDF downloads.

Mine arrived today

Posted by: Valy Apr 5 2013, 07:49 PM

Got mine too but I think we have 3 issues:

1. The hole in the oil screen base needs to be wider for the adapter bolt to pass through - not a big issue, I'll just drill it bigger each time I change the screen.

2. The oil pickup tube extender is a bit too short. The tuna can depth extension is 28.5mm and there is an additional 1mm gasket (29.5mm total). The tube extender is 30.2mm in length so it only overlaps for 0.7mm with the tube. Practically, the oil-screen spring is the only thing keeping it in place. With a bit of vibration, it will get out and the pump will get oil from above the screen and tuna-can, making the upgrade void.

3. The pickup extension doesn't seal on the pickup tube. This means that the oil pump will suck oil/air from above the upper edge of the adapter. This actually makes the solution worst than the original since the oil level must be above the original pickup tube height minus the overlap. Quite the opposite to the purpose of the tuna can.

I'm open to solutions here. I would opt for a longer tube extender with some kind of sealant between the pickup and the extender but maybe someone has a better idea.

I only took a quick look at the parts fitment with the strainer but I didn't get the sense that the extension sleeve was too short or that it could suck air from the slip joint at the top.
The sleeve fit on the pickup tube I checked was precise - I could move it by hand but not that easily.

I have a fresh engine nearly ready to take off the assembly stand that I can do a final assembly on and check for proper clearances.
I'll get some pictures and measurements for reference.
I'll also do a pressure test on the pickup tube to see if leakage is a possible issue.
Some kind of sealant could be used if there is slight leakage.

If one does not use a strainer screen I think the extension should be secured at a carefully set height off the bottom cover plate.

I'm no rocket scientist, but I perfer the first option. Chris, can way you can fab an 'extension' for the existing oil pick-up?.....maybe on the lines where one has to 'heat' the extension on the tube and let the extension shrink to fit.... sorry as there's another term for this. sad.gif

Valy..many thanks for the drawing and noticing the "potential" concerns.

Posted by: euro911 Apr 6 2013, 06:49 PM

I haven't unwrapped my stuff yet, so I don't have a 'fix' to report.

The other style of tuna can I have has an internal o-ring to seal the extension tube against the original pick up tube, and it slides up onto the original tube more than 0.7mm.

Are you installing the sump with the OEM oil strainer screen, Val?

Maybe Neil needs to change the design of the extension tube to allow for more original tube coverage? ... and a sealing ring? confused24.gif

Posted by: Valy Apr 6 2013, 07:07 PM

I want to use the oil screen. I'll have to drill a bigger hole or maybe I'll extend the pickup bolt by 30mm so I can use the original nut.
The new nut doesn't seal on the screen bottom like the original so dirt from the bottom can be sucked back in the oil pump. That's an other issue with this but I think that the rod extension should be the easy part.

BTW, the added oil capacity is 190cc or 6.5oz.

I'm glad to hear some of you are happy with your parts, and really sorry to hear that some of you are not.

Hopefully I can explain, and give some peace of mind to those with concerns.

The oil pickup tube extender doesn't need to go to the bottom of the tuna can, it should have 5-6 mm between the bottom of the sump and the oil pickup tube.

So you can place the new oil pickup tube 5-6mm on the original tube (with some fluid gasket, like Loctite 755 - for extra sealing if you prefer) you may also wish to put a spot of weld on the tube.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Neil (Jonesy)

Neil,

The pickup tube extender is too short to have only 5-6mm to the bottom of the sump like the original pickup did. The tuna can takes that bottom 30mm lower and the tube extension is 30mm total length so any overlap with the old tube will bring the oil pickup point higher.

Did you intend to mount the tube extension with the longer side up or down (see the 2 drawings I posted earlier)?

Also, how long id the thread in the new special nut you supplied? Is it only few mm near the edge or does it go deeper?

Thanks.

We spent some time on the fitment issue yesterday, and took some pictures.
I haven't had a chance to write anything up yet though.
We completed an installation based on our findings. No changes were required but we did use a sealant on the extension tube and instead of one extra gasket we used the same sealant on the top side of the strainer screen flange.

Posted by: rdauenhauer Apr 13 2013, 04:19 PM

I messed around with this today.
I found the sealing area very tight on my PU, Im sure it varies from engine to engine.
I used a little 800 wet/dry on the bottom 2-3cm edge then some Curil to seal.

Looks like you hogged-out the hole in the strainer screen a bit ...

... did everything feel tight and in-place when you secured the can?

Posted by: Racer Chris Apr 13 2013, 07:16 PM

I've decided to shoot for 27.5mm total extension, set with the depth measuring feature of a digital 6" caliper I have.
That gives about 80 thou of engagement on the pickup tube.
We're using a thin film of Motoseal (Hondabond/Yamabond) to hold the extension at the set depth and to ensure no leakage.

I can ship one out straight away for you if you send me the total in UK pound (GBP) via paypal to boatyardbuses@aol.com

Paypal will make the currency conversion for you. Just select GBP from the currency list, and they will take the amount in $ (USD) from you.

I'm going to install the tuna can shortly. Any tips from those who have done this ?

The only part that confuses me is the installation of the pickup tube extension. It seems it was designed with the short end going down; even though the pickup end won't be at the bottom, it seems the sloshing and mixing would still allow the oil to circulate properly. Any comments here ?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a tuna can and a taco plate, what are they used for and what are the benefits of having them? Pics? I have heard about them but have no idea about them.

Posted by: Porschef Nov 8 2014, 07:32 AM

You'll need both if you wanna make tuna tacos... blink.gif

Ok with that out of the way, the can provides a reservoir for some more oil. It bolts up inder the engine, where the screen is now. I have one and haven't installed it yet cause I'm not sure how to mount the pickup. I guess I should find out.

The plate, I believe, is an updated version of what was available to carry a sender for the oil temp. Also bolts up under the engine. Next time you're under the car, you'll see the cover plates on the sump.

So you have a constant supply of oil at the pick up point ... especially during hard cornering when G-forces push the oil in your case over to one side or the other.

I used the screen; had to enlarge the hole a small amount

O.k so heres a picture of all the parts.
#1. Do iuse a gasket between the oil screenand the tuna can, and between the other side of the screen and the new bottom plate?
? What about between the tuna can and the oil pan?(car)
#2. Seems to me the copper gasket supplied would not stop leak at the center screw. Should some type of gasket sealant be applied there as well?

I was under the impression that 3 paper ring gaskets are needed: 1 between the case and the 'can', 1 above and 1 below the strainer flange.

My stock strainer 'bolt' always leaked, so I used red RTV on it - hasn't leaked since.

Thought so. I have 3 sets so I will be using 3. I did not install it yet as I just ordered my sensor and will be doing what jim is doing with the new taco plate and sensor install. Thought id do them both at the same time. Just needto figure out what to use as a gasket on the taco plate install

I just got Neil's tuna can and taco plate. Will b installing soon(got black since there isn't red). The quality is excellent. Got to tell you though, never ever order without tracking because it took over a month to get to me. Wish I got in that group buy myself.

Looks like the sensor is on back order at JEGS.

I ordered mine on 11/11/14. We must have caused a run on that part. The website states if you order today the part will ship on 12/01/14.
