"If you find WCR, RRC, MUSR, ECC, TR and many other 914 events are simply too far away to attend, then chances are you live in the Southeast."
It was that observation (and a conversation with Doug aka dlee6204) that lead to last fall's Day Drive in the Smokies. In fact, for a few months before that, Bob Saville and I had talked about the need for a Southeast-based 914 gathering. You could say the Day Drive was a "test run" for the annual event to come. Bob coined the term "Okteenerfest" (http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=194385&st=40) and we have both committed to making this event happen.
Announcing...
Since the 914 was built to handle, the main emphasis of Okteenerfest will be driving (we do have some awfully nice roads around here ). To keep it fresh, we plan to rotate the event among several different locales in the Smoky Mountain area encompassing an area from the Dragon in TN, east to Asheville, NC, and as far south as Helen, GA.
Each year we will "honor" a specific year and/or type of 914 i.e. 1.7 cars, race cars, LE cars, big bumper cars, etc to help illustrate the particular traits of that group of 914s. Depending on venue, there could also be an autocross, car show, tech session, etc
So watch this space for details as they become available and make plans to attend. Your 914 will love you for it
If you would like to help organize this event, please contact me via PM. The more the merrier!
Steve
That date is close to the time when we have the Tropical Ramble
I like this a lot! There are too many good roads!
Great idea Steve & Bob! ...great logo & name too!
While I may not be back there this Oct., our daughter/hubby did end up buying that house in Candler we saw with them on the day of the last Smokies run, moved in a couple of weekends ago, & now have our 1st Grandchild due in Aug., plus my wife's brother/family are in Kennesaw/ATL GA & may move to Charlotte NC. So we'll be back to that area somewhat regularly.
I'll keep a look out, as you have quite a few 914s back in driving distance of the Southeast. Don't count out LA, MS, AL, FL & Mid-Atlantic/DelMarVA participants, cuz the WCR pulls 914ers from the full 2000+ mile W-coast WA/OR/CA & inland ID, NV, AZ .... even though they have some competing events too!
Who says you can only have one southeast 914 run!!??
Go Tropical, go Smokies, go VIR, etc.!
The good thing about the Fall Smokey Octeenerfest timing is that the weather is still usually good for driving - if sometimes brisk, but most tourists are off the roads by then with kids in school - so long as you miss the local weekend fests like the one which forced the last minute change to the 2012 run.
My suggestion is to check local city/county/chamber calendars for competing events before you finalize weekend & route/stops.
Good Luck!
Hey TC
We needed to pick a date that did not no conflict with anything in the NC/SC/TN/GA/AL etc area that was already set...especially PCA and major automotive stuff...
Every weekend in September is taken up with a local PCA region event, or Pro Racing (ALMS at VIR for example)
October has Petit LeMans, Eurofest, Carolinas PCA Club Race, Peachstate DE, and a couple region's Fall Tours
November has Smoky Mtn Fall Fest, a DE at VIR and a few other Fall Tour type things...oh, and Thanksgiving...
After looking at what has been scheduled the past few years, the ONLY weekend we came up with that even has a shot is the second weekend in October. i'm sure something will eventually conflict (like I think it conflicts with PCA Race at Daytona), but we can't work around everyone.
Hopefully...this will work.
More to come!!
Should be a good time. Count me in. Let me know if I can help.
JoeO
This is great
For anyone that does Facebook, be sure to LIKE the https://www.facebook.com/Okteenerfest.
We will be posting on the FB page as new information concerning the event becomes available.
Sound like a great event. Be sure to post here as well. I don't hang out on FB....I got tired of it very quickly and seldom even log in.
Don't worry, Bill. Info will be posted here, FB, Twitter, p914.net, and many other places
Can the mods put a highlight on this thread?
At another German Car event in Helen last year. Helen is a great venue surrounded by some even better roads. I would love to try to make it to okteenerfest at any "local" venue as well.
The problem with Helen (and any tourist destination here in the Smokies) in October is the fact that it is prime season due to the leaves changing color. That means lodging prices are jacked up higher than usual.
I am looking at basing the event out of Gatlinburg. My wife has contacts in the lodging arena so I am hoping she can find a good deal. Second choice is Townsend though pricing there is similar to the burg.
I have the route mapped out via Googlemaps. Will have to drive it to map out local stops and such. It's going to be a great DAY of driving
Stay tuned!
Sounds like fun, count me in. Just started brewing my Oktoberfest beer, may have to bring some.
If Gatlinburg or Townsend falls through, consider Dillard or Clayton, Georgia.
http://www.dillardhouse.com/
The Dillard House hosted a big MG weekend convention last June.
We are only 35 miles from Air-Cooled Heaven.
http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/index.php/porsche-914
I may be up for this too, especially since MUSR seems to be dieing slowly without a good event organizer.
If you are planning to be in Helen , Jake's shop and R&D facilities are only 10 miles away.
Helen won't be this year but I would LOVE to base the event there or nearby in future years. The plan is to rotate the event through several areas so the event stays fresh. Again, the biggest issue is that time of year being high season in all the usual tourist spots in the mountains. Will have to see what kind of lodging rate people are willing to pay. Personally, I wouldn't care to spend a bit more for a nice location.
I am local to east TN. Let me know if I can help. I hope to have my 914 sorted enough by then to attend.
I am in, if I can bring the blue car again:(
I will put it on the calender.
Thanks for organizing this!
Bring whatever car will get you here and then find a 914 with an empty passenger seat and get in. I did that at MUSR11 and ended up riding around in a real 916
Bob and I will be doing a pre-run of the Okteenerfest full day route this Saturday. 180+ miles
Should have lodging nailed down in the next couple weeks.
Then on to food and awards and everything else
Tentative Itinerary:
Thursday afternoon: begin registration/meet-n-greet
Friday: all day drive "Der Nebelbergring"
Saturday: people's choice car show; lunch; choice of 3 driving routes; possible tech session; end the day with banquet and awards
Sunday: autocross for those who don't have to hurry back home (some of you may have Monday off)
Will be looking for volunteers to help in a variety of areas such as reaching out to sponsors for give-aways, goodie bag items, etc; awards ideas; marketing to your area (flyers, emails, etc); and so on.
Steve I wish my car was in less pieces so I could go! But I will be there in October. Let me know what you need help with.
When I first read the title I thought someone was having a gathering in Ok.
Personally, I never liked the moniker of "teener"s with or cars.
Thanks, Mike. Will be contacting you once I have lodging secured.
Glad to see you got those carbs figured out.
What ever happened to Teenergeddon?
Go on its way of the Mayan calendar?
That was the coolest t-shirt.
Have fun.
A preview of Stages 1 and 2. Enjoy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruZ9ti7IZRo
Thanks for sharing Steve....
Love the x2 Tail run.....I assume first part is on BlueRidge Parkway?
I would think that is about what it looks on a crotch rocket??
Cool!
If that first part was the foothills parkway I have ridden it many times on my bike. Really looking forward to this. Hope my car is!
Steve, now you know what the road looked like to me while chasing you and George in the 916!
First part was Foothills Parkway. Fast part was the Dragon X6
My wife is working on finalizing lodging and once that is done, I will post that along with registration info. October is going to be here before we know it
Steve, My wife Leesa and I were out there last week and weekend and had a blast! We would end up eating and resting over at the Dragon pit for BBQ(129&72) and visit with Dennis the owner. He had all kinds of interest in the 914 since he drives an open rail streetbuggy called The Bone Collector . Depending on the group size it may be a viable rest/ lunch point, but parking may be a little tight if not planned.
It is a worthwhile drive event even from Philly
Kevin,
I have talked with Dennis before but never realized he has a rail. The Dragon Pitt is actually not along any of the planned routes but that shouldn't stop anyone from going there for lunch one day. I hear it is really good.
I wish his accommodations were larger because that would be a great place to stay. BTW, did you notice the large US129Photos banners out by the road? I designed those
Hope to see you in the fall,
steve
BTW, did you notice the large US129Photos banners out by the road? I designed those
/quote]
Couldn't miss them! The photo business is really heating up down there
Hmmm, I wonder if this would be fun. A long way to go just for a few twisties. What kind of people would make this trip?
Wow Steve, great video...didn't know I drove that fast!
Anyway, everyone needs to tell every 914 owner they know that this will be an event not to miss. Lots of driving, socializing, driving some more, and having lots of fun.
Car show is going to be low key for a couple reasons: 1) Steve and I who are running this are NOT Concours people and this is NOT a Concours event...and 2)...after a day of driving, not sure how many of you are going to get up at O-Dark-30 to clean your cars (I'm sure there are a few of you sickos out there).
After a day in the car together, we came up with all kinds of fun awards and ideas...
Some of the roads are very twisty, some are long sweeping, most are in extremely beautiful parts of the country so your passenger will never get tired of the scenery!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone!!
BREAKING NEWS.....
Lodging is all but finalized.
The first Okteenerfest will be based in Townsend, TN aka "the peaceful side of the Smokies"
Rooms are going to be in the $75+ range which is FANTASTIC considering it will be peak season in the Smokies
Found out the owner has a friend who is restoring a 914 and is looking forward to joining in on the fun.
I will be working on other details including registration info, costs, etc so start making plans now to attend.
Bob... yeah, it didn't seem that fast when sitting inside the car
This is a shot of the proposed area for the group photo. Gotta figure out how much zooooom I will need to make it work. Maybe a panoramic shot with Fontana Dam in the background would work from down on the ground
Hey Black73 (Gary), when you took this shot, do you remember the zoom factor?
Okteenerfest will take place at http://www.valleyviewlodge.com/ in Townsend, TN . A block of rooms has been reserved for us so start making plans to attend. Got a great rate considering the time of year (peak season here in the Smokies). Amenities include the banquet hall, a large grassy area for the car show, fire pit, outdoor video screen, and more. Local PCA has held events here over the years and it is a really nice venue.
Lodging details can be found in the first post of this thread.
Registration Info and a web site with online registration and payment will be coming soon.
Count me in, I'll contact the Atlanta teeners. Al
Glad to hear, Al. Hope to see a large contingent of Atlanta area guys.
This place doesn't sound too inviting.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g55383-d736959-Reviews-Valley_View_Lodge-Townsend_Tennessee.html
I've been there twice. No, it's not the Ritz Carlton, but I've never had an issue and I know the local Porsche Club goes there yearly. If there were issues, they wouldn't return. But no, don't expect Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt type. It's a Lodge in the mountains. A bit rustic, but nice and clean from our experiences. It has all the amenities we need, and it's not $200/night.
Our block of rooms are in Building 3 which has been recently renovated and is nice. The room they showed me was decent enough. Back when my daughter was in competitive cheer, we spent upwards of $200/night at Hiltons and such that were no better.
Bob has stayed at the Lodge in years past during the local PCA Spring Thing so he would have a better idea of what some of the other rooms are like. To be honest, some of those reviews surprised me
Yeah, there are random construction items and such lying around the grounds but who cares For our needs, it is perfect! Huge grassy area for the car show, outdoor video screen, fire pit, etc. But best of all is that it is along the driving route rather than 20-30 minutes away which means more time the twisties and less time "getting there".
Boy, I would love to join this event if it can be worked out .....TowDolly the 914 to Ball Ground, GA. Leave (or take) the wife with her best friend and bring my buddy Ned up to the Tail of the Dragon.
With my shifter bushings completely revamped I have new life in my little baby.
Working on the perfect break from the Florida heat, my wife loves Townsend so that works as well!!!
I would rather attend this event over the Petit LeMans....did I just say that?
YES!!! If you own a 914 you must drive the TAIL OF THE DRAGON....in your 914!
Vysoc
As far as the lodging goes, this is not a bad place. It is not the best hotel in the world either. But I live very close but I am still staying here because meeting people and driving my 914 are the top items on the agenda.
I showed the reviews to my wife and she said and I quote "Well I hope we spend more time with the people and driving the car than being in the room. That is the point of this right?" Hard to debate that!
Absolutely correct, Mike. There should be no one hanging out in their room during this event. Going to be too busy...
That's good to know. I didn't mean to stir the poop, but when I say some of the reviews I was a bit surprised.
Thanks and looking forward to
Moderators
can we get a highlight on this thread?
thanks!
Plans for the autocross are moving right along.
If you will be attending Okteenerfest, will you also be autocrossing?
The location for the autocross is a favorite among local PCAers as it is HUGE. Here is Huey on a run last year...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP4wijHvVZI
Hey, Mods... could you please highlight this thread? thank you!
Finally got the http://okteenerfest.com/ ready for the public.
Still working on pricing so registration form is not yet online.
All info will be posted at http://okteenerfest.com/ first and then listed here and other online forums.
The website looks great Steve!
Can't wait!
Thanks, Doug.
Thanks, Gary. Guess I will have to drive out there and do some camera tests. I talked to a guy that is involved with Minis and when they take a picture of the 500+ cars at this location, they have someone come in with a bucket truck. I like that idea since the dam will then be in the background.
Should have exciting news concerning the autocross in the next day or two. Stay tuned
I wanted to bring this to the top again...
So...I am kinda in charge of getting prices together, and for the past month or so I have been EXTREMELY busy with a bunch of crap that most of you wouldn't care to hear about...let alone the blown engine on Papa Smurf... But those are stories for another day.
We are targeting getting registration open on August 1. We just have some things to sort out from a pricing standpoint. I am also trying to work with the interim 914 Registry advocate to make this an official Registry annual event. Lots of moving parts in the background going on....
Quick question though for the Saturday night dinner: we can do steaks on the grill, or be a bit more casual (and much cheaper) and do burgers, chicken etc. The place has a great outdoors area that is perfect for grilling and hanging out. I am more toward the casual....I'd personally rather be walking around talking to people and looking at cars with a burger and beer than sit down with a steak knife (yikes, knives with this group??? ) and such. But...what does everyone prefer?
PM or post here.
We really want to make this an annual event. First year will have growing pains, but I really think every that comes will have a great time!!
Let's see ... Cali to the Black Mountains in October, then hang out somewhere until the Tropical Ramble in November
Now, if only I could find a place to stay in between ...
since it fell back a few pages, I thought it would be good to bring this back up...the awesome video Steve posted of one of our runs that we will be doing on Okteenerfest! (I watched it again this morning and got excited!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruZ9ti7IZRo
Hotel reservations made! Waiting for web site to open for registration. Now all I have to do is completely reassemble the interior of the car, install my new engine, buy and install a front sway bar, fix numerous electrical issues, and generally sort all of that out before October.
What that could take a single weekend? Not a problem. Right. I hope I get it all done!
FINALLY got confirmation concerning the autocross...
The Okteenerfest Autocross will be held at the HUGE parking lot at Splash Country in Pigeon Forge
We have arranged to run with the Smoky Mountain Region so there will be other Porsches in attendance besides our 914s. Should be a fun competition for Fastest Time of Day
http://okteenerfest.com/registration/?action=evregister&event_id=1 Registration fee is $70 which includes event t-shirt, Friday night meal, car show entry and voting privileges, Saturday night awards banquet, door prize(s) and goodie bag.
Sunday's Autocross is optional with price to be announced. Will most likely be in the $25-35 range. This will be collected at the event.
This is a BYOB event. Feel free to bring the adult beverages of your choice for use at the evening gatherings. Soft drinks, water, coffee and tea will be provided throughout the weekend so you won't go thirsty.
FYI, In order to keep the registration costs lower, and allow people to enjoy their beverage of choice, we decided to make the entire weekend a BYOB event. This way if you don't drink alcohol, or we don't provide your specific preferred adult beverage, you don't feel you are funding the costs for others.
The autocross will be held at Splash Country in Pigeon Forge (about a 30 minute scenic drive from Townsend with one very fun curvy section).
We will be sharing the course with the local PCA region so there will be other Porsche models besides the 914s being run.
There will be separate Okteenerfest awards for our group.
The fee for the autocross will be announced as soon as we know what it will be. Most likely in the $25-35 range.
Der Nebelbergring (Smoky Mountain Ring)
Breakdown of the drive on Friday, October 11th.
Stage 1: Foothills Parkway
Stage 2: The Dragon
Stage 3: Moonshiner 28, part 1: Fontana Road
914 GROUP PHOTO at Fontana Dam
Stage 4: Moonshiner 28, part 2: Fontana Road / 143 to Robbinsville
LUNCH in Robbinsville
Stage 5: River Run – Hwy 19/74
Stage 6: Great Smoky Mountains Expressway to Cherokee
Stage 7: Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Stage 8: Little River Road
Each stage ranges from just under half an hour to around 60 minutes.
5+ hours of driving time
Here is a "graphic" of the drive. Tried loading it to the above thread but I got a database error.
For all those that have been following Nadine and my adventures with the Dragon Hill Climb, register and attend so you can run up the same road as the Hill Climb!
Bob we all are counting on you telling us how to do it right! Or at least pick up a few pointers on what not to do. Hopefully my car will be ready by then. Engine is in. Just need to adjust carbs and such then on to the interior.
If you have never experienced the 318 curves of the Dragon, now is your chance to do so with a group of 914s. This 11 mile stretch of twisting, turning mountain road will challenge any 914 driver and is guaranteed to put a grin on your face.
As the second leg of Friday's all-day drive, "Der Nebelbergring", we will travel south "up" the Dragon and then further south and east into North Carolina. If you desire more time on the Dragon, you will have a chance to return on Saturday afternoon during "free time".
As a bonus, you will have to drive the Foothills Parkway to reach the beginning of the Dragon. Yeah, I know... nearly 15 miles of scenic sweepers to reach 11 miles of insane twists and turns. Such torture.
Just remember, the Dragon is known to bite those who lose their focus.

I'm officially stoked for this event. I just spent a week in western NC and was fortunate enough to drive some of the roads and see the scenery. Should be a great even all around.
Nice panoramics, Doug.
Now imagine that in fall colors
Nice pics Doug. Is that the young bride on the bridge?
Nice!
OK, so we have all these people that posted that this is a great idea, and a great event, so where are all of you? Come on! Sign up!!
Nadine and I are going up there to scout out the route this weekend and finalize some stuff. I'll get more video and pictures to have our videomeister to post...
Based on a request from Steve, I have secured a number of items that will be donated to the event and distributed as the organizers see fit!
Register it will be worthwhile!
Thank you, Mike! You have quite the selection of goodies to distribute. We really appreciate that.
Also, I'd like to mention some others who have stepped up with donations:
• Jim McIntosh is donating a custom, one-of-a-kind Okteenerfest frame.
• US129Photos.com will be offering a discount on photos from the Dragon and possibly custom poster(s).
• A friend of mine in Pigeon Forge will be supplying coupons for savings on Old Time Photos and/or accessories. Not exactly sure on the details.
If you would like to donate goodie bag items and/or door prizes, please contact me or Bob (naro914).
And everyone else... sign up already!
Add to that list a must have if you are doing any welding. A fire resistant full leather welding jacket. It may be hot but it saves lots of burnt skin!
More to come!
We are pleased to announce that John Forbes at Black Forest Racing will be sponsoring our trophies and supplying us with some 'unique' items to use as trophies . John is certainly a 914 expert...at any given time there are at least 20+ 914's at his shop...
John has also indicated that he plans to bring a very special 'barn find' 914 he recently acquired. You'll want to see this!!
Thanks John!
We all know that working on a 914 is a sure way to get a complete set of busted knuckles. Some attendees will receive a pair of Kong work gloves. These offer some serious protection while affording a very reasonable amount of dexterity. Register now to secure your spot and take advantage of some pretty good prizes.
Hi All,
Nadine and I did a scouting run of the Okteenerfest Route this weekend and had a BLAST!!
- If you like to drive, you NEED to be here in October.
- If you don't sign up, it's obvious to me you don't like to drive. Yes, I see it as that simple!
We stayed at The Lodge and talked to them about everything. They have the newest building reserved for us, so no concerns. We stayed in the 'old' building this weekend and it was perfect. Turns out, a PCA group from Jacksonville was there a couple weekends ago!
Anyway, I took more video and pictures and will post it up as I can along with more details.
Just a teaser... here's a picture of where we want to take a photo of all the 914's together.... around that loop near the Fontana Dam. Beautiful countryside...
Sign up and get your hotel reservations soon, the hotel has other events going on and will fill up quickly...
I am bummed to say I will not be able to attend, no one knows me but I wanted to pass on Petit LeMans and come to this great event.
Unfortunately my age and favorable play in the South Florida Section PGA Senior Championship has qualified me for the 2013 National Senior PGA Club Professional's Championship, October 10-13 in Aldie, Virginia.
Tail of the Dragon will have to wait for the completion of my next project, what I am calling my M471R. 76 914 converted to a 2.5 Flat six with flares, Engman Long Kit, McMark 1/2 Cage and lots of other goodies, I know it will be stiffer than a payday pecker but that is what I want so there you go.
I will monitor the event at the Tail and wish I was there, at the same tme if I play well I can finance alot of the project, so I am practicing my ass off!!!
Go OKTEEENERFEST 2013
Vysoc
Sorry you won't be able to attend. But playing in The PGA at any level is pretty cool.
But you will be missing some really great prizes! We have the support of a number of great sponsors like PMB and 914 Rubber.
If you want to have a great time driving with fellow 914s and score some great prizes please take the time to register today.
Well it looks like we are gaining some support. In addition to PMB, Pelican Parts and 914 Rubber are now sponsoring the event! I will also have a set of Tim's sweet color gauges installed in my car for all to see.
Take a moment and register. You have the potential to walk away with a higher value of SWAG and door prizes than the event costs. Then you still get a great weekend of driving and 914 talk.
The excellent Bruce Stone is providing one of his quality rebuilt pedal clusters as a prize. Bruce puts out quality items which most of us know.
Thanks Bruce!
Does this sign get you excited?
Then you HAVE to Join us...you will see more of this sign on this drive then you will ever see in a day of driving...
I'm finishing up a few videos and will post soon.
Sign up, hotel is getting filled up....
That makes me hope I can get my front sway bar installed in time!
New video up at http://www.okteenerfest.com
This is what happens when I'm tired, had a few beers and wanted to try out some new features I found. (and I guess I piss off brant too...sorry brant)
Yes I'm going slow....this was a scouting trip for our Okteenerfest run and we were trying to get timing down. We thought if we drove the speed limit, it would more closely emulate a bunch of cars running together.
And no, we are not in a 914...our odometer doesn't work....
Sit back, dim the lights, turn on your lava lamp, grab a cold one and enjoy...
Looks like we are picking up some speed for the event!
Restoration Design Inc. is on board and will be providing laser cut key fobs for attendees. I know there are Restoration Design floor panels in my cars future.
Rennen Metal is sending a care package of 914 parts! I can't wait to see this package my car can used just about every part they make.
914 Central is supporting Okteenerfest by offering a discount to all attendees on any order placed through December!
Shannon Palmer of Financial Concepts of Knoxville is supporting Okteenerfest with a donation and a financial review/planning session for attendees!
Need to take it on a long shake down cruise between now and then. Also need to get new tires....
Bill,
Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your 6 conversion. Glad you are making the trip to the Smokies.
steve
Gauges By Tim has made a great offer for Okteenerfest attendees. If you order a set of customized gauges within 30-days of the event, you will receive a 30% discount. After 30-days you can still get a 15% discount.
Tim just did mine with an amazing turn around time. Can't wait to install them.
What a sweet deal! That discount pretty much pays the registration fee.
We would like to welcome Brad Mayer and 914 Limited as a double sponsor. Brad is making a donation and is sending along a care package for the event.
This is getting really interesting!
For all you procrastinators out there... the hotel is filling up quickly. There are a couple other events going on that weekend so don't wait to book your room.
HOST HOTEL: the Lodge at Valley View

Be sure to tell them you are with the Porsche 914 group.
I just confirmed my room!!! She said there were probably only a couple of rooms left for Fri night...
Can't wait!! Thanks to all the Organizers Sponsors and Donators that are making this Event happen!
Must. Have. This.
I would like to thank Joe O'Brien of Series 9 in FL (http://www.914rs.com) for supporting us with some really cool shirts. We all get "Series 9" but think of how many other people won't have a clue.
Just another little update. For those of you coming in from out of state, we are in the process of identifying some quality repair shops. While we all know the proven dependability of the 914 and while it is unlikely to be a concern, but we thought that having a list might helpful on that rare occasion when a problem occurs in a 914!
We are trying to find someone who will be available on Saturday just incase the Friday drive results in the need for repairs.
We will keep you posted.
I got my room!
Have we worked out electronic payment for the event yet?
There may be the possibility that something like this may be available at an additional substantial discount or as prize for some lucky attendee.
Who would not want these and that mileage in their car? Oh and they do that whole color light thing too?
Time to get your registration in!
The Lodge at Valley View is booked full
I talked to the Highland Manor Inn next door and they currently have some rooms available. The rate is a bit higher but not too bad.

Checked the Okteenerfest web site stats and was amazed to see over 150 unique visitors to the site today (has been averaging just under 50 per day). Visitors from all across the Southeast and beyond including TN, GA, AL, FL, NC, SC, VA, PA, MA, OH, MO, IL, KS, TX, AZ and CA. Even had visits from Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Spain and several from Germany. What's it gonna take to get these visitors to register?
Called the host hotel and found out how many rooms are booked for Okteenerfest. Seems some of you have booked your rooms but haven't yet registered. C'mon! Register already
With the host hotel booked, alternate accommodations will have to be used. Here are a few that are close to the event. Sorry, I have no idea if they have rooms available or what pricing is:

Four more weeks
Also for those of you that are still thinking about it, Pelican Parts is going to feature Okteenerfest as the lead in their next email news letter on Friday. Not sure how much additional interest it will generate but it certainly may result in an additional surge on the available hotels.
I slept in, and I use the word loosely, a 914 once and I sure would never try it again!
Well, I was out due to several reasons, but, the main reason I was out just vanished so there is a slight chance I will be back in. I need to check a few things before I decide though, but going to see if there is any way possible I can make it now.
Shoe
Just signed up....didn't see any of the Atlanta folks on the list. I guess I'm the only one with a running car.
Bob
You Guys are doing a Great Job! - Keep up the Great Work so I can join in in '14 with a running carr
Bob (BIGKAT 83)
Do you have a way of contacting Lewis Broyles and Grady Goodwin? Would be great to have them up here. I thought I had a good email for Lewis but it bounced.
Check out all the http://okteenerfest.com/okteenerfest-sponsors/ that are helping to make Okteenerfest the best event possible.
Mike is still hard at work negotiating with others so it is bound to get better and better.
All I can say is, the door prizes and other goodies are truly amazing! Thanks to all who have so generously donated to the cause.
Had a couple more sign up today. It's not too late to join us on Der Nebelbergring on Friday, car show, driving and banquet on Saturday, and autocross on Sunday.
Can't make it all three days? No worries... join us at any time.http://okteenerfest.com/registration/?action=evregister&event_id=1 and then let us know when you expect to join in the fun.
There are just about 3 weeks until Okteenerfest. If you are planning to sign up, PLEASE DO SO NOW!! We need to start getting counts for Tshirts, food, trophies, etc.
Still another bonus! Garold Shaffer has offered up one of http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=44221 famous service covers as a door prize! This is a prize that I want!
Even if you can only come for a while go ahead and register. If we can get 50 we may be able to squeeze some additional support from a potential vendor. I would love to see that happen!
Given the level of support provided by some really great vendors most will walk away with more than their money back in prizes and discounts. Combine that with some truly epic drives and you can't lose!
Double post!
Wow! You guys have done a great job with this event. 29 and counting!!! Maybe next year for me!
Might want to ask for your live event loader several days ahead so its ready to go.
Chris Foley of Tangerine Racing is providing a few of his exceptional products for the event. Chris is providing:
A 914 Grill Spatula - Sweet! Enough said.
A firewall spherical bearing for your shift rod. Works with tail or side shift. A massive improvement in bearing quality over the stock plastic which means better shifting.
Rear wheel hub centering rings. Eliminate rear wheel vibration and never have to fight putting the rear wheels on again because the rings hold the wheels perfectly!
Any one of these as a prize would make a nice addition to most anyone's car.
We have received some amazing support for this event. If you have to rearrange your schedule to make the event, then make it happen. It will be worth it!
We would like to thank Dave at http://www.maddogsmotorsports.org/Home_Page.html for providing some amazing items!
Dave is hooking us up with a 914 rear boxed arm stiffening kit, 914 front sway bar stiffening kit, and a 914 rear sway bar braket kit for early cars.
I wish I could have those on my car for the run up the Dragon!
Bob, thanks for notifying Lewis and I. We are signed up and ready to go. Too late for the event motel, but we have rooms 20 miles away now. just more driving the 914's. Even talked the wives into coming with us. Will there be room at the event hotel for me to park my truck and trailer?
Grady
Just signed up! The boss lady is letting me out of the house!
Hi all
I should be getting out a schedule in the next day or so, I will post here, email to the registrants, and post on the Okteenerfest website
Also...sorry for the payment reminder to those that just signed up. I hadn't used the reminder feature on the registration system yet and thought it might allow me to pick and chose who to send to...nope. Sent to everyone that hasn't paid yet! Oh well....live and learn!
EDIT: Just saw what the reminder said...very impersonal ...I'll change that!
More rooms opened up at HQ. so now Lewis and I have rooms there.

914 Rear Sway Bar Bracket Kit - early
You guys are killing me here.
Don
I will personally consider it an honor to have you there.
Actually, I consider it an honor to have spent 4 years serving as the PCA zone 3 rep and to be able to be a part of putting on an event for the benefit of my fellow 914 owners. We planned this to be a fun, laid back, no pressure weekend that we can go out and enjoy our wonderful little cars like they were meant to be enjoyed. Hopefully, we will end up fulfilling that goal and we'll all look back after it saying we had a lot of fun.
And if you're not there....well....all I can say is that those of us that are there will probably rub it in a bit.
Good news for anyone wanting to come to Okteenerfest but could not find a nearby room...
The host hotel just had SEVEN ROOMS open up. Act fast before they fill up again.
HOST HOTEL: the Lodge at Valley View
Toll Free Reservations: 1-800-292-4844

Be sure to tell them you are with the Porsche 914 group.
Just made my reservation. Guess I can stop working on my motorhome now.
Bob
I'll be there,,,as usual my car is on jack stands, so '87 corvette convert and pics of the other car!!!!
A little photo of the great hookup of stuff from Chris at Tangerine Racing!
This looks really cool & I wish I could be there! You Fuchers better do just as good a job next year, so I can pick up some cool swag!
J
While searching for my t shirts from previous rally's I found a new brown carpet set that I won at Rocket City Ramble. Anyone have a black one to trade? I will bring it with me.
This was going to be my return to the teener fold. Now I am waiting for rear wheel bearings....
Attached thumbnail(s)
You have two weeks to get those bearings fixed! That's enough time for some people to rebuild a whole 914!
Add a deposit box console from http://914ap.com to the stash of goodies
I just opened the gauges Tim did for Ockteenerfest. I sent him a set that had seen some hard days! OK to be honest they were crap! Tim did a full restore on these because they are a prize. But if you have some gauges that need a little work, ask him about the extra full restore when he does your lights.
Ok who wants to win this?
Considering that they kinda looked like these at the beginning, I think they turned out pretty good
Fantastic job, Tim!
Needless to say the picture right out of the box hardly does them justice. I will get a better one.
Like I said, I sent Tim crap and got back gold! When I threatened to put them in my car, my wife told me that she would bust me unless she got to keep the Tangerine Racing spatula! It is odd how FedEx can lose things even after they are delivered.....
Yeah... I seem to have misplaced the Porsche Design Sunglasses
It is not too late to register for this event. We now have 45 registrants with 27 drivable 914s coming from TN, GA, NC, SC, AL, and IN.
Hey, Admins....
Could we get a Picture Thread with Live Upload set up for Okteenerfest please
Thank you so much!
Took the 914 for a drive yesterday. Took a long time to warm up, but was a fun trip with 7 yr old grandson until gen red light came on. Oops. Turned out to be a blown fuse. Whew. This week will be spent cleaning it up and packing. Had to agree to a week of golfing the week before in TN to get the wife to come. Look out Fairfield Glade. I am sometimes wild off the tee.
Grady you are always wild!!!!!!
Is there a prize for showing up to the most 914 events without actually driving one????
Jack stands again!!!!!!!!!!
If you're planning to register PLEASE DO SO NOW!! We need to finalize our T-shirt and food count this week. Registrations after Tuesday October 1 will not get a shirt..so, if you'd like a cool, one-of-a-kind T-shirt to commemorate that YOU WERE THERE for the 1st Annual Okteenerfest, get registered NOW.
Who knows? One day it could be a collectors item worth millions!!
Saw the 2013 Okteenerfest shirts on Facebook. They look awesome! Teener is in my favorite color too! T-shirt color is great too! Hides grease!
Attached image(s)
Great job on the shirt Steve!
We have received some really amazing support on this event. We have sponsors that have stepped up and provided some amazing items and have shown their commitment to the 914. I will be posting a summary of the items available as prizes soon, but if you are even just thinking about signing up please do so! There are a number of items that are valued at $100 or more and a few at $350+. Any of these could make the trip worthwhile. All of the story telling, food, driving, and good times will be a bonus!
Is it possible to get a shirt without coming? I was making some late plans to get there and then this government shutdown thing came up. Since I am on staff at a military facility, at least I am working but I cannot take leave, and now even if it was resolved tonight I wold probably not be able to get that time off now. So how about a shirt?
Phil
Thought I would throw a couple pictures up to get people excited!!

Got in the 2nd set of gauges from Tim that will be available at Okteenerfest. Very nice complete restore done one these along with Tim's custom lights. If you don't happen to win the other set these will be available for purchase at the discount price.
Check the colors!
Peoples Choice car show awards...
What, there's no car with the most advanced timing award?
This looks like a great event! If only my 914 were running better I would come... perhaps next year!
Steve, you guys have really put together a great looking event. I've been pulled in so many directions over the past few months to pay too much attention. I'm psyched about the coming weekend and it's not just because I'm off call.
Some friends of ours posted on Facebook that yesterday they had to make a detour somewhere near Pigeon Forge because of the government shut down. Anyone know if it will affect our ride Friday?
I really wanted to make this but it just isn't in the cards for me this year. Sadly, I will be home in the city while you guys are out having the time of your life. Good luck and safe travels to you all.
Shoe
** federal workers have been orders back ti work - so I guess you guys should have access to these roads on federal property this weekend!!!
I really appreciated all the effort You all put into route planning so should I buy a big set of bolt cutters? I figured this would be like the WW2 monument.
1 of the 319 Dragon Curves..
Cherohala Skyway Dreaming...
and you don't see many pics shot from the inside of this curve?
Pumped! Car getting hot problem solved. Button up a few last items and it is on to Okteenerfest!
Change oil.
Set rear brake clearances.
Clean and detail.
Drive it!
ADMINS - can we please have a live uploader set up for Okteenerfest?
Danke
Just sent off a care package should be something for everyone.
I've had reports from my neighbors of some guy in a little blue Fiat or something hanging around my house. Funny thing is, as soon as a delivery truck shows up, the car streaks by and is gone.
Just realized that Townsend is on eastern time and not central like Crossville. That means it will take an extra hour to get there Friday morning. That's bad news for a late riser like me, but I will manage. Alarm set for 4am CDT.
Please have patience with old Grumpy in the morning and have a cup of strong coffee waiting for me.
I'll be there early friday morning. I'm on call until (technically) 8am I should be there around seven. Who's making breakfast? aka coffee.
Hey Kelvin and Donna...I know you remember this one?
And I better not be in this position again....
Just lots and lots of this!!
See Ya'll Thursday Afternoon for a GREAT Weekend of .. errr, well hopefully none of that last one!!
The only thing that is keeping from making this event is money, I will be there next year.
Couldn't sleep this morning so I got started on my packing for Okteenerfest at 4:30 AM. Is that insane or what?
Regrettably it seems like I have several boxes of SWAG that I will actually have to give up for the event. But man I am looking forward to this!
Packing up now. I have plenty of room in my trailer.Plan to have a yard sale. Got a bunch of stuff I need to sell.
1. Koni rear shocks 200lb springs,Lincoln weldpak 100 with mig kit $150,Autopower bolt in rollgage. Reupolstered seats, etc
Bob
Definitely interested.
add to the flea market , interior rug kit, dark gray, bought several years ago,, never used,, just took out of bag,, I think from morph..
15x8 revolution wheels....(2) yellow
18X10 TURBO TWIST KNOCK OFFS (price per bob)
15x8 fuchs (4) I know I cant fit all this.. yell if someone is interested
and if I can fit in the vette.... no Blonde so more room!!!!!
Less than 18 hours to go before the official start of Okteenerfest
Well don't know if I am ready but its here! Car seems to be running well thanks to Robert at Eurohaus Motor Sports. He found a shift bushing that looked good 4 months ago when I replaced everything else but it was bad today. He refined my tune to the best it has ever been. Runs strong for a 4. Gave the brakes a good adjustment. I think that will be important on the Dragon.
Washed and cleaned. Gassed up and ready to go. Won't be the nicest there by far but it has been a lot of work and fun getting ready for this.
Have to give a big shout out to Steve and Bob for the staggering amount of work they put in to this event. These guys are special people.
Lets do this!
Mike... it's a labor of love
Just wait til you see a parking lot full of 914s in a variety of 70s colors
I guarantee you will think of M&Ms or Skittles
Is Dr. 914 showing up for this?
Ill be there in spirit
Just saw on news that monuments are closed except for First Amendment activities. I am thinking that a procession of 914's should be considered a First Amendment activity so we should be able to go around the barriers in the parks. We are a minority part of The PCA. Most PCA'ers consider us NARPs so we could be demonstrating just like the illegal aliens that were allowed at the monuments. Anyone know the TN Congressional delegation to get us some support? Just saying.
Townsend was on Fox News this morning, seems the Parkies closed the only road School Buses can use to get to some town called Top Of The Mountain. Maybe youse guys can escort them on your drive tomorrow!
Well unfortunately my 914 will not be making this trip. Too many issues and not enough time.
I'll still be there though and I'll be looking for rides.
Top of the world is off footbills parkway. Maybe closed.
Also river road is in gsmnp. Sucks if that is closed.
I turned the wrong way getting to the hotel and got stopped at the Great Smokey National Park. Some lady was going off on Ranger about how our taxes paid for the road and the park should be open. The ranger said that he agreed.... He said it was a crock o'crap and he was getting tired of the games
First lesson learned on the trip here:
The sound of a Porsche 6 cylinder sounds great. But, it gets monotonous after 350+ miles and 6 hours. My head is tired!
I just pretend mine is a really out of tune 6
We had an awesome drive today...some of us even drove the Dragon twice. The teeners (not sure of the total number..... Over 20) drove it very quickly.... Seriously. Cars and bikes were using the pull offs to let us through. The 914 is a great handling car...
At the end of the run you could tell the cars had been run hard....lots of the Porsche oil and gas aromas permeated the air
A HUGE thank you to the organizers. I heard many comments at dinner tonight that this is one of the most fun drives they've had in a long time.
:bump;
BTW: pictures from one of the dragon sites were up last night.... 129slayer.com
Choose the 10/11 date starting around 11:10 am
They are also up on us129photos.com in the Porsche section
I brought the wife and kids down for the show this morning. What a great turnout. Sad that mine wasn't quite ready for the trip but I enjoyed the morning nonetheless.
Thanks to the organizers
Lots of smiles in those pics...
Looks like a lot of fun. Enjoy the rest of Octeenerfest!
Here's where I found the pictures.

Next year I'll be there.
Hugh and I made it home about 12 this morning. We had a great time!
Thanks again to all the organizers and sponsors.
Made it back. What a great event. Great people, weather, and cars.
Hopefully everyone had a great time and walked away with a prize or 2. Will get some photos posted soon.
I had a great time meeting so many of you and a big thank you to the organizers. I hope you all make it back home safely. Here's someone else who had a great time with you all and is also EXHAUSTED..
Just got back home from Okteenerfest. My 914 performed great with no issues! Yea. The winner of best of show was a Creamsicle owned by Jim Flanagan of North Carolina (He said it is his wife's car!). This is a partial of the row of "Stock" class 914's on display. My 914 is the red one in the foreground. The Glutton for Punishment award was won by me for having my 914 the longest: February of 1973. You have to be 914 owner to know the meaning of the award! A big thank you to the organizers who did an awesome job!

Left around 6:20 this morning and made it back around 11:30. Once again I have to thank the organizers for the great job!
Met lots of people and made some new friends. Can't ask for much more!
just got some pictures extreme photos,,, seems a vette slipped into the group,,,,,, bastard!!!
any time look forward to seeing you again..

Four 914s ran in the autocross this morning. Two 914s took top 3 positions - Bob Saville in first and Ken Park in third.
Wesley Parker and I also ran. I don't have the timesheet in front of me but I believe Wes was about 7 or 8 seconds off fastest time and I was another 7 or so seconds behind that Yeah, I'm an autocross newb
Thanks to all who came out to Okteenerfest. It was great to see so many of you I had met before at MUSR11 & 12 and I enjoyed meeting new people. Hope to see you all again (and more) next year at Okteenerfest 2014 "Can Am Reunion"
I got Overall FTD and Nadine got Ladies FTD!! Ken was really fast, only missed second overall by 0.2 seconds!!
Yes, even with the low numbers, we represented 914's quite well!!!
Want to thank Bob, Nadine, and Steve for a great weekend. EVERYONE had a great time. And especially to our fine cars. Everyone made it through the 200 plus mile run. Our cars were put to the extreme test and we all came back without a breakdown. Some smiles are still on our faces. Thanks to everyone who gave me best in show. It made all the hard work I did worth it, Is it next October yet????
Congrats on both you and Nadine taking FTD. I haven't had a chance to take a look at the results yet.
There were some amazing cars there! Here are a few of the pictures.
One happy boy.

Just talked to the owner of US129photos.com
He said if you contact him via email at Dave@US129PHOTOS.com, he will give a special Okteenerfest deal of all photos of your 914 for $45.00 (digital download).
He is pretty busy so give him up to 24 hours to respond.
Be sure to check out http://www.us129photos.com which will be posted late Monday evening... he promised to include some 914s.
Also, check out this shot. Something that is rarely seen let alone photographed up on the Dragon - 2 up, 2 down.
As another note, I designed their suits
That's a great price ! Thank you for setting that up.
I'm sure I speak for Steve and Mike, but I really want to thank all of you that came out and enjoyed this weekend with us. Planning is one thing, but it's the great people that make an event a success. It was great to reacquaint ourselves with old friends, and make many new ones!! That's why we do this, for the fun and friendships.
October marks 20 years of PCA membership for me and Nadine, and during those 20 years, we've been involved with so much and met so many great people. As the saying goes, "it's not just the cars, it's the people"
So again, Thank all of YOU that came out and trusted that we would make you're weekend worthwhile.
Some great photos so far... can't wait to see more from other teeners! I will certainly be in attendance for 2014 if at all possible!
Great picture!
Very very cool pic
Great shot Steve! You have a good eye. Will need a high resolution version of this!
Cool!
Great showing, great weather, looks like fun was had by all, except those that really wanted to go in the National Park. "unintended consequences of gov'mnt meddling" I always say.
You guys better do this again next year. Please give my wife plenty of notice, so I can attend! Let's shoot for 50 cars so Dr 914 will show!
Looks like it's a do over. ILOVE this location! Pardon my convenience.
I had a blast at okteenerfest. I've been lurking on here for awhile and decided to update my profile with pic. I enjoyed meeting everyone and learned a lot about repairs and things that I will be doing to the 914 in the near future.
Paul Case
Paul
Great to meet you and.
Looks like it was a neat event and a good turn out
Nice pix too.
Did you guys (and gals) have a drive-in movie?
We showed the original "Gone in 60 Seconds" at the 2009 WCR
We parked like that more for the photo than anything else.
On Friday we showed a variety of 914 related videos - vintage Porsche films, race footage, etc
Saturday we posted a pic of car and owner when an award was given or door prize awarded.
