I am definitely in, right in my backyard
I'm in for that one.
Hope I can. I'll know better when we get closer to the date.
Darn it.... How about one in the Western NY area in the future ??
I would be interested in going. That would be a much closer drive than Mark's place.
If you want western NY, you might as well just drive to my place. I live south of Pittsburgh.
I'm in
I can offer anybody accomodations if that helps
Ray that was Chappaqua. Paul the seller, pointed out where they lived when we did the test drive. Very nice area. This is across Thruway from New Paltz. Probally less than an hour from you. A couple of C&Cs going on this weekend. I might try to make one.
I'm in. An hour's drive away.
Chris
Alright gents, this is a GO! If you are a serious builder, PM me for payment details. Seal kits can be bought on your own or bought from me for $40.
I need a count, soon, as I am limited by the venue. So far he feels he can only handle 6-7 people and he may already have that number. So, if you are serious, and/or have a local place to this that has the ability to support more than 7 people, let me know.
Count me in if there is space!
I can accommodate more than 7. have 3 open bays 1.5 car lengths long if that helps.
That does help, where are you located? I am trying to coordinate between two boards for this and it is a PITA If we can meet at one place that is bigger, then we can get as many done as want to come.
Alright, I have a PM into Mort. As soon as I get the details I will start collecting funds.
Bueller?
I did pm you back, I am in chester ny 10918 if that helps. about 45 min south west of pok on the other side of the river.
No idea why I never got it, but since you are in I can start setting it up PM me the actual address for me to send to paying customers and spectators. Did you get my PM about your cost, or lack there of?
Details and updates to be placed in post one.
I did not will pm you address and particulars
Go it! Thanks for hosting, Mort!
Scotti has paid!
I am interested in this. Need some more details..
Not if you expect to drop it, rebuild it, and reinstall it?
The big issue is that it takes time to remove and reinstall and the exhaust is the bad part. Lots of potential that we have an issue.
Ask for help before the clinic. I bet you can get it.
So far, only two in. Sup?
An opportunity for me to re-build my trans! ( I have an extra which out of the car. Maybe I will drop mine and bring both? One for parts... Do I need to bring a table? is there a list of tools to bring?
I have never done anything like this... I am not sure either trans even needs re-building, but lets face it, one at least probably does, right?
Both are tail shift. Is there an option to change to side shift at this time? Do I need to track down a SS case? I already have the s/s rod / engine bracket as. (Can one even change a tail shifter case to side shifter I forget... ) Also I would be interested in flipping the gears ,deviating from stock? Can I get some advice on that before hand so I can arrive prepared? So many questions! Anyway sounds like a fun time.
ps Hey Scott,
The "Gold Brick" is great, (well looks sweet sitting there) I have the gas tank out - going install new s/s lines pretty soon & maybe move the pump to the front.
Maybe I will drop mine and bring both?
Yes, bring both. I guarantee that you will benefit from opening it up. Bring two and make at least one good one.
Do I need to bring a table?
If you can, it doesnt hurt.
Is there a list of tools to bring?
Regular tools. I bring anything special.
Is there an option to change to side shift at this time?
Absolutely. This is not a problem if you have the internal parts. I can sell them to you if you need. You will need:
- Internal shift rods
- Side shift console
- tail cone (optional)
Do I need to track down a SS case?
Nope
Also I would be interested in flipping the gears ,deviating from stock? Can I get some advice on that before hand so I can arrive prepared?
Yes. Gear swaps are easy and can happen at the clinic.
Thanks Doc. This is is sounding real good. I am probably IN just have to re-ask what does the tranny weigh? I think its about 60 lbs. Right? I JUST had hip surgery last week so I SHOULD be up to speed by June.. Just going to check with my OTHER Doctor to see if it is okay to lug one or two of these around in 4 months .. fun times.
I was up at Morts place once, he was bringing a 914 back from the dead, he seemed like a very experienced guy and perfect host.
72lbs
78lbs
Keep in contact, Paul.
I will Doc,
The news is My wife is Due on the 16th, hopping to have my first baby girl. if She delivers on the 16th, chances are I will be there.
Congrats, Paul The 16th is my birthday
I'm visiting my inlaws... in the area... at around the same time...
no tools with me though...
anyone have a decent core box they want to sell for the clinic at a decent price?
It might be a good escape from the in-laws after a full week of visitation..... but I can't thing that shipping a core is worth it.
brant
brant, I have an extra tailshifter box here. let me know if you want it and I will pull it from the car it is stored in. plenty of tools as well.
That is an awesome offer..
I'm going to finalize with my wife this weekend
hope to figure out the exact dates of our tickets and see if this can work in as a "vacation" away from the vacation!
thanks everyone
Only two guys have committed to this so far? Come on guys, there has to be a few others that want to attend.
This will no way be above your capabilities. I will do it for you if it comes to it
Any chance Dr Evil may venture into the south for a clinic? My wife says she will cook for you! If not I may have to consider the NY spot in June.
Holy crap how'd I miss this? I am in and stoked.
bump...
my wife does not want me to bail out of the in-law visit now
I guess I have to help her clean the in-law garage, and do small projects and repairs....
so I'm not going to make it now guys
but I would rather be there!
brant
Brant,
I wonder if we could pull off a clinic at one of the RMVR races?
I am in the middle of pulling apart two 901s right now just to document what is inside and replace gaskets.
I know its a bit hectic, but with the covered parking space and ample campers to sleep in, maybe Dr Evil would like to see how we party in CO at the Rocky Mountain Vintage Races? HPR of course ;-)
Just a thought....
Stu
Ok, I have done a lot of parts sales as of late and this has put a hit on the hard to find stuff. Namely, 1st sliders. I have 4 good used 1/R sliders left. It is generally recommended to replace these and New ones are about $500. If you are strapped for cash and want a low cost alternative, I can sell you one of mine until they are gone.
As there are a lot of you, I will be doing this lottery style. PM me if you need one and on Fri/Sat I will make a list and throw a dart at it or some other random pick technique.
If I get more good ones, I will start making my way down the list. If you want a new one wholesale, I can take orders and try to negotiate a better price for a bulk deal.
Ok fellas, I can get you a discount on new first gear sliders if you want, but you need to act now!
Doc, I have a grind on 2nd gear unless I pause between 1st and 2nd. It seems to improve as the transmission warms up. I don't have it when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. What do you think I will need to fix that if I make it there?
If I don't make it, how hard is that to change? Does it involve pulling the whole stack?
Whole stack removal, at least 2 bands, 1 or 2 teeth, one slider. I can take care of ya
Oh, I have no doubt you can. I have a spare Tail shift that I will be taking apart to see its condition, if I can use the parts from there. If not, give me a cost in parts.
I will take a good used slider if you make it that far down the list.
Mort, you have one. On your tab
so, I have recruited another participant who is local, so I will need another set of gaskets. please send me a total so that I can square up.
Mort, I will PM you info.
Hi Folks,
Getting close. FYI, I purchased 3 new 1/R sliders and have two left. Discount pricing!
I need the 2nd . Pm me pricing.
The 2nd what?
2nd gear slider
For second gear of the second one of the 1/R slider? Your accent is throwing me off
Bump
Ok, I am now done with my more reclusive period dealing with studying for a big damn test. Now is the time to get the people excited about this clinic!
Come on, sign up!
Wanted to keep this one close to the top.
How many guys are attending this? I will be going & can fit a bunch of people & stuff in the truck if anyone else from the Boston area plans on going.
Larry. I thought you were crossing the border?!?
Time is running out. Anyone else in on this?
I will be inventorying my used parts here soon and selling them first come first served. If you think you will want new parts, better order now as I get a group discount and it will take time.
I am semi short on synchro bands and most builds need 2 to 3 of them.
Still plenty of room for this. Seriously, I have like 4 people coming, including the host.
my wife is going to do one so I will be forwarding payment with that of a couple locals who have committed softly. hey ray, hank, tim, paul, joe, in your back yard. maybe andy could be convinced to take a little road trip.
Sweet. Good news.
The best part of the clinic is when Dr. Evil dons the giant Top Hat, takes off his shirt and sings a belly button song about gear ratios.
He has a beautiful tenor. It will bring a tear to your eye. Do not miss this clinic.
I am so looking forward to final act of the transmission clinic. I didn't know.
wifes payment sent via paypal, thanks
Kick ass. Where can I stay???
you can stay here if you want
Done deal. No drunk driving risk that way
I am a da and forgot 2 seal kits do you want it now or can we square up at the clinic?
We can take care of it at the clinic. I just ordered 10 more kits for my stock so I can take them out of that.
All of NY is upstate from me.
The total list is:
Mort
Mrs. Mort
Scott Vitolo
Flippa
John S (912 guy)
Actually, the only one NOT on my list, is you, Scotty boy If you are going you need to get with me now so I can prepare.
Ah, that makes sense
HA
Ten days to go
Come on, no one from Eastern Massachusetts wants to attend?
This is a very small gathering, unfortunately. The 912 folks that started the damn thing evaporated other than the organizer
At least the tuition will pay for the gas, I think
We will make it worth your while in food & drink.
Do you like lobster? I made that threat during the contest and will follow through on it. I was planning on trying to get a few on Thursday.
What is your drink of choice?
I no longer need a rebuilt, my issue was solved by installing the tangerine firewall bushing. I plan to attend as a spectator. I also have a tail shift that I am planning on taking apart and see if there are any good parts. If someone is looking for any parts let me know.
Next!
Ok folks, I have updated the first post to show who and what is coming/needed. Let me know if there are discrepancies.
sounds like the surf is covered, I will provide turf,, werd
Nah. Usual metric. Anything exotic will be provided.
And don't forget your costume. All of the tranny clinics have a different theme.
I'm sorry to say though that Larry (flippa) was the only one who remembered to PM his vote to Dr. Evil so it was the only choice.
You must all dress like Disney Princesses.
Lots of choices. Good luck gentlemen.
Larry is going to look smashing as "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast.
I believe Andrew was going as Pocahontas.
And Evil was stuck between Cinderella and Rapunzel.
Go ahead, have fun guys, let down your hair.
Oops sorry... Wrong tranny thread. Carry on.
So he decided on the Cinderella costume then? Wow. You guys are in for a treat.
Mike is one hot tranny! Nice rack
Dang, I'd fuck me. Y'all keep your hands off!

I would suggest bringing a folding table or something to work on.
Rubber Mallet
10mm socket and a 14mm socket.
And 13mm socket.
Start at 9am Sat.
Larry, Mort said you can come up Fri and hang with us if you like. There is a place for you to sleep.
Have fun Larry.
I am trying to shuffle around some meetings on Friday, so I may be out Friday evening depending on what time I get done with work. If it is too late, we'll see you guys Saturday morning.
I am thinking of riding the R1100RT instead of taking the bus. It will just be me and I can likely fit all I need into the copious luggage. Save a shit load on gas, too.
I am thinking ribs, beer bourbon on Friday, aspirin transmissions early Saturday, brats weenies burgers beer mid day, more transmisiions, all afternoon, lobsta' and filet mignon, beer more bourbon sat early eve. aspirin sausage eggs and bloodys sunday, done
I just went through all of my inventory so I could bring enough to build all the boxes. Looks like it will fit.
no rain in the forecast
All loaded on the bike and I still have room for a change of clothes and a tooth brush.
One of the 2 912 guys just had to cancel.....something about getting a phone call and having to be on a plane in the AM and gone for 3 wks
Garmin updated, iTunes updated. I plan to hit the road at noon. Its on!
I will be leaving Boston early afternoon myself. Plan on being there @ 5 or so.
Hitting the road in T-5min
Traveling alone helps one stay on time (no chicks )
By the way fellas . . . around 3:00am is when the Doc starts to frolic.
I am in Boston now & hitting the Pike in 20 minutes. Looking forward to a little & &
erh.... aaah...right
pm sent ray
Big thanks to Mort for hosting and Dr Evil for the education on rebuilding the tranny!
It was a lot of fun hanging out with everyone. Look forward to meeting up with all you guys at future events!
just want say thank you to all who participated. my wife and I had a great time. mike, your knowledge and abilities are truly formidable. larry, thank you for the awesome ectosketal main course and to everyone else that stopped by. my only problem now is {I wish}, my wife wants $300.00 to put my transmission back together. we should do it again soon. again , thank you all.
havin' wicked lobsta rolls for dinnah
Thank you Mort for hosting such a fun event, thank you Doc for leading us out of the darkness, thank you other guys for making me realize that I wasn't alone in feeling like I was in way over my head and thank you Flippa for straightening us out on English pronunciation. I just hope I get my cah on the road soon so I can go down to the lobstah shack.
Oh, and that lobstah was really special.
Chris
Great time, great hosts, the food was off the hook. It took me 7 hours to get home, 450 mi, hot as balls. I was happy to have a little sprinkle of rain in a few spots.
Y'all are welcome to visit over this way sometime
Our lone 912 member has a photo-chronicler there
