914World.com _ 914World Garage _ cam lift/ duration?

Posted by: theo Feb 28 2013, 03:35 PM

I am having my cam reground next week, is there a popular lift and duration people like to use for a 2.0 with dual webber carb? (daily driver/ weekend toy)

Thanks,

You will probably be better with a new cam.
Re-grounding your used cam won't allow you to change the angles too much if at all.

Just pick up a WebCam 86 or 494 with new lifters. I ran the 494 for a long time and liked it.

Which one of those two (86 or 494) would you put on a 2.0L, Weber 40IDFs, CR ~9.0 for race applications?

And there is the 86a vs 86b...

Stu, of those choices, the 86a is best suited to your purpose IMO.
Its a good choice for theo as well.

494 is a street cam. Fairly mild. Hotter then stock, but still mild enough that it won't overpower CIS. I have had either a 494 or a Raby 9530 (494 with more duration) in my car forever.

Whatever cam you get make sure you get the matched lifters as well. VERY IMPORTANT. if you use a web cam, use web lifters.

I have a brand new old stock, never used WebCam camshaft and lifter set, 00-263 and 00-152, Type 4 IV, 86 in their original boxes. It is made for carbs. $250 plus postage. LMK if interested. Joe
