Why the hell cant I post a Bitmap? No its not too big, its only 137 KB's. It says I cannot upload this type of file. EVERY damn pic I save onto my hard drive is a Bitmap by default. How can I make the default a jpeg? And why cant I load a bitmap? It says I can.
Most all photo editors have the ability to change the file type
from bit map to jpg ...and bout 20 more types.
I use irfanview.....which is a free download for us CSOBs.
*That* I can help you with. It is also simple to use......which is gud for dumbshits like me. I have a couple other photo editors on this puter, but irfanview gets most all the work.
Photoshop or several other graphics programs. Convert to jpeg. Conform, stop bitching.
bmp is not allowed because some web browsers won't decode them inline, only download them. Get a batch converter which will do them all in one fell swoop. I know a great program for Mac, but IIRC your part of the Dark Side.
Photoshop does batch.
Photoshop is es-pen-sive for average joe. There are plenty of free software packages that will do the batch conversion.
I get the feeling you wear a patch over one eye when you work on the computer.
The full version is rather pricey. You can get the limited edition for about $100. It does about 90% of what anyone would ever use. And, a lot more than any freebee. Better yet, a lot of $100 printers come with it, might as well get it free with a nice printer. Epson rocks.
I didn't know. I'll consider myself learned.
Is that Elements?
Don't know if Elements is comparable. For a very long time Photoshop LE was avilable. Don't know if it still is.
Im not buying Photoshop. 914club is the only place I post pics. I thought bmp's were allowed, read that somewhere. I'll find Irfanview. Then youz guys better watch out
EDIT Just got Irfanview. it wurks
I've been trying to post a jpg and I get a "fatal error timeout over 30 seconds...or some kind of shit like that.
The pic was of interest.....fuch it.
You sure don't want to send BMP images. They are huge because they have absolutely no compression. I'm not sure what program or source you use for the images, but there should be other options than BMP to save them in. Most cameras use JPG as default. Irfanview rocks. One great feature is that it can detect the correct format for an image for those that have no extension or the incorrect one. It then offers to correct that for you. I think it has the widest range of permissable extensions of any program I know. I use it for some professional work along with Photoshop and other pro software.
Chris,
if you're saving pics from the web and they default to bmp instead of the jpg that they probably are then you're cache is probably filled. Someone went through this here a while back. I was having the same problem, and just emptied out my temporary internet files and voila, back to saving the original file in it's correct format.
you can use good old ms paint to convert from .bmp to .jpg. And at the same time you can add hilarious marks to your pictures.
Hey folks
I've been trying to post jpegs, and I keep getting the "Can't load-or-something-something this type of file and your computer is on fire"
Yes, I'm an idiot, but I've been saving them as jpeg. Are they just too big maybe?
Pictures? Pictures? We don't need no stinkin' pictures!
In a pinch I use the editor in XP, otherwise it's Photoshop.
bmp's suck 'cause they're usually huge.
For all of the rest of you that can't post pics, check out the http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=SF&f=16
And specifically the http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=13637 page.
If you still have problems after that, let us know eh?
I have never not been (like my double negative) albe to post pics on the 914club. You guys all suck. Sheese, it is all just point, click, point, click to figure it out. Computers suck! Work sucks! People who can't upload pictures suck! My Boss sucks! :finger2: The guy who won't send me my parts sucks! ....... Wait, where am I? Sorry, sort of got off topic there.
gravity suucks
I've never had probs before now I do
My mother-in-law sucks.....wait a minute...I didn't mean that way
I cruise along at about 3.5kB per second. I try to reduce the
size of stuff I'm uploading to avoid the time limit. Anyways, if
it needs to be huge, I just link to another area where I can host it.
Okay Chris now you have irfanview, where are all of the se bmps that you are going to inundate us with?? <_<
CCLINPHOTOSHOP
Should Jenny be scared that there is a picture of her in your list?
The camel scares me more....hope he consulted with Lawrence to see if he got a good looking one....
THEN there is the "vipgra"....hmmm, maybe VIAGRA??????
MY GOD he's the posted the directory to his porn file!!!!!!!!
I've got the same freekin problem. Are you running Windows 2000 Pro? I think that is part of the problem on my 3 machines.
At home, Can't save anything other than a bitmap. When I try to save pictures off the internet, most come up caca.
I get a "can't read this type of bitmap" error when I try to open them -even with irfanview.
Both my computers at work (my laptop and my super duper Zpro CAD station) have this problem too. Jpegs are not an option in paint or any other programs and do not appear in the pulldown options.
Others at work with the same computers have the JPEG option. One guy had the problem and went into REGEDIT and found a folder that could be edited for the JPEG option. He opened the path up on his computer and when we atttempted to follow the same path on my computer we found different paths on the two computers
and no options on my system.
When I contacted IM at work for a fix, they tried for a coupla hours before giving up and sent me Adobe Photoshop as a converter from Bitmap to JPEG.
Microsoft- Aint it great!
Ken
Back in the day when I was part of the dark side, all of my images would save as .bmp also... Moral of the story? get a mac or install linux.
Have you winders guys having the bmp problem at least tried Mozilla Firefox instead of IE? That will probably fix the .bmp saving problem...
OK...3 Easy Steps to Fix the BMP issue: (if you have not done this in a while, it may take 5-10 minutes for the computer to complete the task)
