914World.com _ 914World Garage _ INSTRUMENT INDICATOR BULB NUMBER

Posted by: Mblizzard Apr 22 2013, 07:24 PM

I am in the process of replacing my very dim instrument light bulbs with LEDs. I ordered what I thought were the correct ones from super right LEDS but three are two types. I have the BA7 that are the bayonet base. The others are much smaller. I have the part number P883100 but I was wondering what it translated into like a tail light bulb is a 1157.

I attached a picture of the one I need the 1157 equivalent for. Attached Image

I got a reply and the I formation is as follows

The part number you will be looking for is going to be 74-xHP. It can be found here:

OK next - Anyone have a source for the actual instrument light holder like these?

I think I need about 5 of them.

I'm doing a cleanup of the instrument cluster and replacing the instrument lights and indicators with LED's. (I know the Alternator lamp needs to be an actual bulb, not an LED..)

One of the bulb sockets from the Speedometer is broken, the center contact is pulled loose and the internal spring appears to be broken.

PET seems to list it as P/N 111-957-397 but looking it up on a number of sites it's listed as a bulb, not a socket.

Anybody able to confirm the P/N?

Anybody have a spare or two available ? If so, please let me know how much you would want for it.

Thanks,
Harvey

The bulb holders can be purchased from Air Cooled.net for $7.95 each:

I believe this post has the info you're looking for
( http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=207374 )

Do you have to replace anything else or can you just throw some bulbs in? I can't even read the ones in my 912 at night, I was going to use it as my speeding excuse...

I replaced a number of the old bulbs with the LEDs and the difference is astounding.

There are two bulbs. A wedge which is a 74-xHP and a normal bulb that goes in the socket which is a BA7s-x if you look on the Superbright LED site. Of course the smaller wedge bulb is the more expensive at $2.49 vs the $1.49 for the normal bulb. I can take a picture and post it if you would like to see? Let me know.

This is an upgrade that is well worth doing.

Found them a little cheaper at http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vdo-600816/overview/. $5.31

Pictures are always helpful!

The summit one says it's steel, I might be weery of that, the original looks to be brass/copper.

I've used superbrightled.com before for some motorcycle bulbs, they are a pleasant company to work with.

Not a great picture but I think it makes the comparison. Of course going from left to right, fuel gauge with all of the original lights actually working. Next tach with 1 LED on and then speedo with 2 LEDS on.

Then see if you can pick the guage with the LED. And yes all of the other gauges have working lights in them!
