I got a line on a decent 2.2T engine with the zenith carb , it is complete with 911 heat exchanger, fan and inside sheet metal for 1200$,, the base has 100K and the heads 4K, wanna replace my 1.7 d-jet ?? how many HP is it a good deal, should i jump on it
If it is a good running engine with both carbs it should be worth somewhere around $2k to $2.5k.
If it doesn't run or you can't see it run, it falls into the "core" category and is worth half that max.
BTW the most beautiful noise I have ever heard was a 2.4 liter T engine, complete with MFI and a bursh muffler.
That is what all sixes should sound like.
I paid $1800 for my 2.2T, so you can't go wrong for the price.. My conversion is almost complete and hoping that my good deal engine starts and runs fine. good luck
It's a good deal if the motor is in a car, you can see it run or drive it and you can check compression. If that is the case I'd buy it and use it for the initial conversion. After you get everything sorted out I'd hunt down a nice 3.0L or 3.2L engine, swap, and then sell the 2.2T for double the price. Be sure to sell it before it comes out of the car.
i have not seen or heard the engine running as it is quite far away,, but the friend who told me about it told me that is had the head just redone, 4 % leak down and 145 psi compression, was in a running car that had terminal rust
Tou-che.....I gotta admit, I didn't take my class this year.....but I was in the hunt till the 2nd to last one....but my driving sux ......but wait tilll next year!
2.2s are nice - you can always add an E-cam for more umpfff - I love my 2.2
the 2.2 I built for my 911 is pushing like 210+ hp...
It will make more power if I change the cam timing, dump more fuel, and spin it to 8500..
but I dont like to rebuild it every 40 hours LOL
This is wild. *everyone* is converting to the SIX and finding motors for dirt cheap. Congrats and go for it!
My one piece of advice is this: do not tear out your FOUR until you have all the conversion parts in hand and can verify that the donor motor is a good'n.

The topics says "72" 2.2t. Check the engine number if it is a 72 it will be a 2.4 . Euro 2.4 T,s had zenith carbs . More torque longer stroke.
I think a lot of "early" 911 owners are considering larger engines for their light weight rides. (I know both Rich and myself are...). Kinda like a lot 914 owners are looking for bigger 4's or 6's for their rides. This may be why there's a bunch of $1200-1500 T motors out there (there was a buttload of 911T's made). I think as the SC's and earlier Carreras (85-87) get cheaper it's becoming viable. The early 911's are actually getting "more" expensive. Would you do a $7-8k rebuild on your stock "T" motor or would you buy a hard to kill 3.0 or 3.2 for $5-6k (for a good running one) and have close to 200 factory hp on tap? (how? by putting an early exhaust and Webers on an 3.0SC motor, you'll be just over 200hp)
I love short strokes.
My favorite short stroke motor build is Euro 90mm RS pistons on a 66mm crank. Rebush the rods to get the compression back up (so your chains aren't too loose). S-cams and Webers. This should give you a 210hp, 2.5L fun machine. Excellent for a 914-6/GT clone!

I paid 2500 for my 2.0 "S" motor WITH Webers....1500 for the 2,2 w/o carbs...both were good deals and really howl when spooled up.....
You may already know the story on my SIX.
Running 2.0-2.4 with webers for $1500.
Don't know the actual size of the motor. Runs good though.
