After hearing people go on and on about 914.043.0001 being the first production 914/6 I decided to contact Marc at Porsche who has access to the Kardexs
and here is what he wrote:

So that Make PCNA and now Porsche in Germany who have said #11 was the first.

Hey, Glenn! Have you seen any of the old articles about #17? One of the vendors at the Partsheaven swap evidently used to own it, and mentioned that it was covered in a Panorama issue many years ago...

#11 shows up at the G and R. Tony is a great guy and has a 914-GT also.

here's the artice and a little additional text, that I saved in my files

"I got one of the 1st 914/6s in the USA. 9140430017. This was the car, that the Panorama featured in their 1st road test.
The car was Yellow, and soon after the road test, the car was painted Black, and a 2.4 Motor W/airport gears was installed."

#4 was a prototype. #11 is (apparently) the first production 914-6. Two very different things.

All of us don't! How many known prototypes are out there? beerchug.gif

Posted by: Dave_Darling Jun 6 2013, 12:34 PM

At least four that we know of still existing. Was it five?

The Porsche (silver) and Piech 914-8 cars were built from prototypes.

The Sportomatic prototype is sitting in Germany right now and is either awaiting or currently under restoration.

And there's the infamous "Number Four" that was sold in the US and driven as a road car before being left to rot. And be the subject of Way Too Much Drama ™.
