There should be a engine number stamped near the oil filler.

Actually, it looks like the engine number is partially visible just under that fuel filter ...

The 2L engine # is stamped in front of the oil filler.
Plug location says not 2L. Your # will
be stamped at the case centerline at the rear, on a
raised boss , passenger side.

I think it is 4 but the vin number I cant get anthing from it for some reasonp

Posted by: The Cabinetmaker Jul 27 2013, 06:08 PM

4 would be the first # of the vin. 4 means 74.
the engine # is, like Andy said, just below the fuel filter
on your pic. It will start with 2 letters.

The configuration is early 1.7. No PCV, heater blower on the engine, plugs set high, no vents in the heads. The engine number should be on that little diagonal spot visible by the fuel filter. That fuel line running directly into the plenum's a nice touch. Don't have to waste too much time and effort getting the jetting right. Mileage probably isn't too much worse than the single carb gives you ................

agree.gif 1.7 -- and not a 73, I think.

That's NOT the VIN, it's the engine number.
