Nice seats. How much do they weigh?
Man thats cheaper than getting my Corbeaus recovered. Look to be about the same. If they are lite I'm in.
Are they APC? I've seen 'em before and have been waiting to see if they'd fit in a 914.
Good score, cant' wait to see pics after install.
They come in a couple different colors too, right?
I saw Andrew's post this morning and I knew that I recognized that logo. So, I looked it up in my SEMA directory.
The brand is http://www.3aracing.com/. The company is http://americanautoacc.com. Despite their name, they are a Chinese company.
I looked on their site but gave up on finding this seat because the site is soooo slow. Maybe someone else has more patience.
Those seats look great,
Any idea as to whether they'd be legal for any driver events.
Price is right, but I'd hate to go thru all the expense, and work to get'm in,and then end up being sent home packing,by a tech inspector.
Ron
their site is not any slower than any other site i have been to, i have cable and it is almost instant. i cant find the exact seat he bought but they have 5 different models, two look the same just different covers. the only thing i can see wrong is the leg bolsters are not very tall. but this might be because the cushion is tall, but it does not seen taller than a stock seat. and the bolsters not being to tall would be good in a 914. they dont have any info on the seats just 1 pic each. they have one seat that "looks" like it might fit the back pad but there is no way to tell from their site.
btw they have an office in cali, might be able to look at all their seats there
Silly me. I was using Firefox. It is a lot quicker with IE.
Anyway, Andrew's seats are not listed on their site. However, I did find them using SalesHound. But, there are no particulars regarding size, weight, etc. Here is the http://www.saleshound.com/saleshound/listing_detail.asp?ListingID=-2097538732&OfferID=&PRetailerID=-99798

GREAT FIND guys! I'm going over to see the Pep Boys this weekend and check out the seats!
Thanks . . .
a little bit larger now
Attached image(s)
I see those seats every Sunday in the paper, and wondered if they would be good for the 914. At those prices I could put two in instead of moving the drivers seat to the passenger side and put in a race seat for the driver. I,m gonna check it out too!!!
SteveSr
There is a PB not far from me, did anyone get the model number? 3A Racing, got that part.
25-270 (#25-2701)
toys.
alright...
Heres what it says...
"constructed around a steel frame" its still light... about as heavy as the stock seat.
Now for black like mine.... You want 25-2705.
I am very impressed with them. Once I find a way to mount them to the stock slider, then I'll be hunky dory!!!
Let me advise you all. they have an interesting front portion.. its like a big bucket that you sit in, and it could be slightly uncomfortable for long trips.. I'll be finding a way to resolve this with some foam... Its like it has no cusion (like if you took off the stock 914 cusion, cut in in half, and left the front half in...)
More pics in a sec.
Andrew
Sorry about the quality, was using my cheepo camera.
I must add that they were on sale for 79 each.. as aposed to 99 each...
anyways. Dad says there probably ok for DE events.. (and I guess in that case Ax too..)
the pic of the problem area (I got a little strong pillow and put in in place, and it "solved" the problem... but I'll make something for it soon...

Dad could fit, he's what 230#'s? cant remember, but it fits the big guys. Its not snug on me, but im used to that.

Most of the racing seats are made like this with a hole for your ass to sit in. I Guess this is a copy of a real race seat. I do even see the cut in the seat bottom for the sub belt. I had the corbeaus for a year and never traveled more than 50 miles at one time. Not sure if would have wanted to either.
125 miles to an AX event 6 runs and 125 miles home would probably put a whipping on me "back side". Also need a snug seat having a 32" waist @ 150 pounds I need the skinniest seat available.
I've looked at these seats many times during my visits to Pep Boys. They have a display of three seats. Got to tell y'all, they don't look bad, and sit quite nicely. Impressive for the price, without a doubt! Available in colors. Big question....will they fit??? Can't wait to see them mounted in the car. Andyrew, take some pics when they're in!!
Andy
Pics! Yeah! Me too! I wanna see!
Ordered mine today--pick up next Tuesday!!! Yippppppppie!
I'd love to see some pictures of the seats INSTALLED. It looks like installation is gonna be hard, with the e-brake... or am I the only one who uses that funny little lever on the left?
Any idea what the total height is on the back? Do you have a back pad? I know it's kinda besides the point at that price you could always have an upholstry shop reconfigure the back pad that's what I'd probably want to do.
Doug C
BTW, this seat looks alot like the Corbeau Clubman seat.
Doug C
Why is it, that when I asked about a week ago about these seats, everyone ragged on them. Andy picks up a set and you guys are all goo goo gaa gaa over them?? They were $85 for a pair on Evilbay last week. The draw back was shipping was 150 bucks which makes it a better deal buying them locally at PB.
Wasn't me going ga ga. No way I would have attempted my cross country adventure in a Corbeau forza. Recaro SRD (really heavy) but oh so supportive. Imagine my supprise when I got home and realized I could adjust the recline of the seat back,.

I think they're more than 'alright' for a street car.. I mean they cost less than having stocks recovered plus you get better bolsters and they have provisions for 5pt harness. I just don't like the top part, maybe with a little trim and tuck the headrests off the stock seats could be utilized or eliminated all together? I do have the Corbeau Lo-back GTA on order though and should get them today or tomorrow. If I don't like 'em I may consider these.

Related hijack:
Someone mentioned to me that the 80s Toyota MR2 seats would fit a 914.. I happened to have a pair of 80s MR2 seats around from a previous abandoned project (Electric dual motor trike made out of shaft drive motorcycle parts). I took the stockrails off and welded on 914 rails. They are MUCH more comfortable, especially for long drives. They give more side support than stock seats. You end up about 1" higher, ok for me but maybe not for folks tall enough that they barely fit with stock seats. The backpad is out of the question. With the backpad removed, they will slide about as far back as stock seats, but I still have some seatbelt interference to resolve. It's not a bolt in swap, but it makes a daily driver more bearable and to me is worth the effort. I will post pics eventually (got too much going on this week, and I still have to mod the passenger side seat) Oh, the ebrake will still work if you cut the shaft off the seat's tilt adjuster (which is redundant anyways because the 914 rail assembly tilts)
Hows about some pics of the bottoms of the seats from PB? To give ideas for rail mounting.
Bondo, I think I was the one that told you that. Glad it al worked out.
For those that thought the ebrake would be a problem. nope, no problem at all. loads of clearance.
Next problem is mounting. I took pics, dads uploading them. I put the provided sliders in, and thought of a way I could mount this. I am thinking that if I cut the 914 seat adjuster, and welded the provided 3A racing slider to the 914 seat adjuster, then I will have adjustability.
The seats have 4 mounting screws that attach directly to the seat (steel frame remember.. Suprisingly light, i'll weigh it in a sec.) They seem to be about an inch or so wider than the 914 seat. So With that in mind, I'll figure something out. MUAHAHAHA
muaha
racing seat is 20lbs each.
914 seat is 20lbs each... Just weighed em...
Andy, great post. Keep looking at those things when I'm at local store. Do you think it can be bolted to the stock 914 tracks? Is the seat wider or just the mounts?
When I said seats, I ment mounts... Im working on mounting it currently.. I have "a plan, New deal" whatever..
It is wider than the stock seat rails.. But I think it will work... Te rust me...
I'll see if dad can upload the pics.. Im off to work!!! (called me in.. grrrrr.... eh, 4 hours x 6.75... erm.. carry the taxes...dang... phoey)
Andrew
Here's my 2 cents
Butt fit..
I'm 6' 1" 215-225 depending on if I'm talking to my wife about my diet or not.
The fit is very snug about the same as any other standard race seat I've test fit. I would not enjoy a long drive to LA or maybe even SF in that seat. I'll be fine driving it around town and at Autocrosses.
More of a concern will be the front bolster under your leg. It won't allow the leg to go straight out. Could be a problem on some (maybe all) drivers. It's built up with a spring so you can't just remove the pad like on my cheap seats.
Any update on this guys? How about a picture of the seats just sitting in the car, I'd like to get an idea of the height of the back relative to the rear window. TIA!
Doug C
How about pics of the seats with the rails installed. Dimensions?
Thanks,
Aight, heres how far i've gotten...
First is the seat sitting on the 914 rail (stock rail.. not my modified one)
Seams fine.. My head is about level with the top of the seat. im 6'..
Attached image(s)
Next, my modified seat rail.
(extra seat rail... lol)
Cut off the 914 part.. and moved the lever pivot over.. Got to move it back, I moved it to far... (vice is a little difficult to use...)
Attached image(s)
Next is how it compares to the provided seat rails. I will use an L shaped steel bracket to mount the two together... Welded bracket to the 914 seat rail. bolted to the 3A rail.
Attached image(s)
And close up..
Attached image(s)
And the lever of the stock one.. For comparison purposes..
Hope this helps you guys see what all im doing.
It is completely possible to just mount the given rails to the body of the 914, completely taking out the 914 rails.. but I wanted some hight adjustment, so I decided to try the long way...
Attached image(s)
looks like putting the seat with the provided rails on top of the 914 unit would add a lot of height. i already brush the roof with my bald head and i am 6'2.
i am following this thread as i have been unlucky in finding a nice set of stock seats in the cheap price range i am willing to pay....
post on....!!!
out of curiosity I tried to locate those online and at the local brick & morter location (Everett)..No GO~!?
I searched online (everywhere mind you..) and couldnt find it either..
No it doesnt really raise it much.. If you note that I am attaching it to the 914 bracket after I cut off half an inch of the bracket (for the 914 slider.. Now im putting on a diff slider...) Im probably only raising the actual seat up about a half of an inch max... and the seat is about level with the 914 seat.
We'll see what the real results are as I get them firmly mounted.
Might not be for a while though... I got a ton of hours at work this week (28 vs 20... Gah!!!!)
Andrew
I'm with Rich..I can't find these locally. The two PBs around here both have 3 different seats and no pictures or catalog with these. I would bet money that we have the worst PB in the country around my area for customer service. WHY aren't these sold on their website either? Frustrating.
Doug C
Thanks for that Paul, I think I'll go in and try to talk to a manager with the add in my hand. I do notice that Andyrew's seats don't say "3A Racing" on the leg support area like in the pictures...looks better that way. Wish me luck..
Doug C
Just ask for black on black..
The guy at PB's said they come in only the two colors in the add.. but the three add's i've seen have 5 different colors, and mine is different from all of those.. (blk/blk)...
lol
Good luck
Andrew
Right on Paul
Just called the Everett store and thier wharehouse chk yeilded 288 in stock. Must order through the store and provide the part # earlier in the thread. I was considering the Renagade seats, but this seems too good to pass up.
Got mine today--yippie!!!!!
They are a tight fit on my personal frame--will probably try and spread the hip portion out another 1/2 inch--but other than that ---yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for turning me onto this!! I was having a very hard time swallowing the cost of recovering the miscule stockers....
My PB seat adventure last night... I go to the first PB (closest to my house) no manager is around and everyone else looks at me like I'm from Mars when I mention "in store specials" I give up after about 15 minutes of trying to get someone to order a set for me..the guy keeps saying 'we can't order anything after 6pm'. When I was leaving he suggests that I try 'Cartoys' I just shake my head and roll my eyes. I then head across town to the next PB and finally get someone to help me, he couldn't get the computer to tally up a total so he calls the manager. She gets the same thing and calls the home office or someplace, they tell her that the "system" is down. She suggests that I come back tomorrow (today) and try again. This group was fairly helpfull so I guess I will. BTW, I did get to sit in one and I found them to be very snugg and I'm not a big guy, I'll try to bend the tube frame a bit wider also. That leg support piece is also a little extreme for a street car but I think if you added an upholstered cushion where your bottom actually sits it would be a lot better...because it's very deep.
Doug C
I put a little pillow in front and found it to help alot.. lol
And for extra long trips. a large pillow covering the entire bottom seemed to make it just comfy... I think I'll make a couple of pads and experiment...
Andrew
I don't mean to hijack your thread.
I thought I'd search on evilbay to see if any of the pepboy seats might be listed.
I found these here with a buy it now price of $378.00 a pair.
Who ever is selling them wants an additional 120.00 to ship them which seems pretty steep.
Nice lookin seats.
Ron
Attached image(s)
Nice yes, but you could get almost three sets of the PB seats for that money.
Doug C
I contemplated buying those seats.. thats an evolution of the "nex seats"
see this thread...http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=8347&hl=nex+seats
The problem with those seats, they hit the handbrake. Note the "flare on the front of the seat.
lots of modification to get my handbrake to work with that....
Andrew
OK, sent the wife in today to complete last nights transaction and she was able to get them ordered however, she was told not to pay until we picked them up which leaves me a little doubtful. Also, the model#25-2705 came up as bk/bl which means I may be getting a set that's black and blue, they couldn't find an all black model or one with a description bk/bk etc. So I guess we'll see. If I really like them I may eventually have them recovered in a nice tan leather (further down the road).
Doug C
I just "happen" to know one of the managers at my local pep boys. If you want me to find out the proper color code for you, please PM and I will see if he can help.
Carlos
25-2705 is what I have.
Its Blk/Blk.. No worries.
And to give you an example--I am 6' and 220 lbs.....
Hoo boy! Well Im 6'1" and a few beers shy of that
I just got back from ordering a set of these so merry christmass to me!
I guess that means Ill have a set of pretty good blk seats need a new home
For those of you have trouble finding part numbers--the seats are listed in the paper specials flier that is always somewhere in the front of the store.
Yeah but at my PB the add showed a red seat and a blue seat and the model numbers under them were #25-2701 and #25-2705....see what I mean the add is off. Then when my wife placed the order just yesterday she brought home a new add that showed a red seat and a grey seat.. SAME MODEL #s! But like Andyrew said 'No worries'. Atleast we got 'em ordered.
Doug C
You get them in? Pix would be appreciated. Might make a stop at PB myself tomorrow.
I have a fiat that needs new seats too. Hmmm.....
- Joe
Just got Back from PU of my seats !!
Not bad
I see now what was described as a "Hole". Doesnt seem
too obtrusive I bet a simple cushion could "Tailor" the seat to your tousch
Again at 6.1" 33"waist its a bit snug at the Hips but I think with a small amount of widening effort, should net a perfect fit.
Im following with intrest your slider solution as I prefer the fit to be as close to the stockers as possible.
Jwalters are you running a back Pad?

Well I took some time did some measuring and started work on fitting the seats today.
After removing the hog clips attaching the cover to the seat base you can see the mounts welded to the outside of the frame and a rail to guide the fabric.
Attached image(s)
The necessary mounting location ended up being directly over the frame rails so I cut those off, & Trimmed the tapped post's
Attached image(s)
Then measured and drilled the rails for the posts
Attached image(s)
Now I need to find someone local with a welder, grind the posts flush and I be in bidness
Hey you NW folks Anyone not gonna be nursing a hangover tommoro (or Sunday?)
Nice!
Good job.
Hope mine turns out as well.
Still need to work on it
Andrew
Rather than welding the posts into the rail you might consider a rivit-nut (AVK's trade name for them)? These are threaded fasteners that work like pop rivets. You use a special tool with a threaded mandrel (you can get the tool from harbor freight for about $20) or you can install them with a bolt and a nut. You threat the nut all the way onto the bolt and then thread bolt into the rivit-nut. Insert the nut into the desired location, hold the bolt stationary and turn the nut down against the rivet-nut. This will colaps the rivit-nut. When done, remove the bolt.
I have access to these nuts in 1/4 20 thread size as well as M6, M8, and M10. I would be willing to send some to you for the cost of shipping. PM me if interested.
Eric

Thanks Eric, Ive used those befor (Mostly on my bikes) but because of the Round tube and the location being offest from the center of the tube doubt they would work.
Besides because a fair amount of stress is aplied to these mount points (holding my large arse in place )
I want to prevent these from tearing out. Welding them in place should put back some of the strengh I took out from cutting the holes.
So... after our small winters blast hooked up with Jeff today("sixnotfour" Thanks a bunch Jeff!) and got the seat posts welded and the rails mounted. Here are some pics. I intended on mounting them in the 73 today but it got late (dark) then started snowing so I figure I do it tommorow, Dan and Craig might stop by but that'll depend on driving conditions anyway....

Nice welding
Heres how the rails mount..
Attached image(s)
And a comparo of old to new with the rails attached.
First front...
Attached image(s)
heres a top view (sort of) seat hight is about the same.
Attached image(s)
Last the back. Its as straight as the stocker so I dont forsee a problem w/fitment to the backpad
Attached image(s)
I believe I have a way of making brackets to bolt to the stock sliders. No cutting or welding. Hope to make a set today.
David
Sorry Andrew, but I got to copy you on this one. I think I'm ordering the seats in black tomarrow.
Any pics with them in the car?
