Why is this car so cheap?

It's an oddity...it's not a 914, it's not a 911....due to the way it was built, it would be hard to place it in some racing orgs....

it is trick and different and I bet a blast to drive....I couldn't afford to replace those tires wacko.gif

That car is stilll around?

I saw that on ebay over a year ago

This one time, on Mulholland, smilie_pokal.gif

Posted by: ppickerell Dec 9 2004, 12:43 PM

Please stop me from bidding.............must get divorce........

Posted by: sixnotfour Dec 9 2004, 12:44 PM

OTTO and Fab Car built a couple of these and raced em
this way mid engined , they changed that loop hole.

Posted by: Root_Werks Dec 9 2004, 12:47 PM

So the car cannot really be raced anymore?

Damn you for posting this! mad.gif

Think I can pull it off without the divorce, but will cost me a hell of a lot more than $55K biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jeroen Dec 9 2004, 01:33 PM

Hmmm... lessee $55K = €41K
Nope... not today sad.gif

Posted by: Brad Roberts Dec 9 2004, 02:40 PM

Why do they call it a 996 ? Nothing on the car remotely is close to 996 ?

It isnt legal in SCCA for anything but SP class (which is a non points class basically)

Cool car.

Hey Howie......my check for half is in the mail biggrin.gif ............go ahead and bid on it.

Posted by: TimT Dec 9 2004, 03:25 PM

You can race that car in PCA GTP class, I was just at the roebling road club race and a fabcar 911 was running, it did very well, third overall I think.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Dec 9 2004, 03:28 PM

Not unless it has a log book dating back to 1996.

You can spank ricers with just about anything that has more torque then an impact wrench. They just put it in drive, hit the gas, and wait for turbo. If you get them off the line, then back off and act like you've already won. Then if they bitch, challenge them to the twisties in your 914!

I emailed the seller about some pics of the engine bay. I got 6 pictures, huge resolution, so these are shrunk pretty good. If anyone wants the high res, i can zip and email.

pretty cool, it has a 993 rear subframe, but CIS? and what looks like a reworked 930 intercooler

With CIS you run out of fuel at about 475hp..

Posted by: ppickerell Dec 9 2004, 07:17 PM

Is that Marilyn Manson on the fuel cell? unsure.gif

Posted by: kwales Dec 9 2004, 07:33 PM

Nah......

Its his EX......

Wait til you see the oil fill in the rear...... happy11.gif

Really must stop looking at this thing. It's working like Viagra! Buy this and a salvage 74 for the VIN. Sell the race motor, put in a stock 3.6 and enough street stuff to get it thru DMV as a rebuild.

Rock Store, Crystal Cove, Woodward killer. Taking my meds now rolleyes.gif

Patrick, joint venture?

Posted by: ppickerell Dec 9 2004, 09:10 PM

Look at the topic title....wanna go halfsies? Seriously 55K as a buy it now price seems quite reasonable.

Posted by: ppickerell Dec 9 2004, 11:55 PM

Dare to dream. I have allways wanted a 930 turbo. This one is almost mint!

Please, someone tell me that they are 'kinda' interested in buying the "996" so I have an excuse to check it out! boldblue.gif
If the car is actually located in Dunedin, it's minutes from my place!
