I just got my Valentine One a few days ago. It works awesome.

Go to any high performance car forum and pretty much the only name that is undisputed is Valentine One.

You have to order from their website.

It picks up everything. Only false signals come from grocery store automated doors, but you learn where those are.

It has directional arrows to let you know where the radar is coming from.

THe mounting mechanism is really nice.

They have an upgrade policy that will let you upgrade older units to their more modern technology.

Basically, if you are serious about a radar detector, get a Valentine One.

In recent tests I've seen the Escort 8600 X50 outperformed the V1.

V1. Don't waste your time with any other detector. I've had one for years, worth every penny.

Wife has an escort x50 in her car. Saves her 'bout once a week on country roads. I have an old bel (when they were good, 855 sti I think it is), about 3-4 years old that works just as well in my opinion, except gets set off by the x50 if she's following me :-)

Only consider the V1 or the Escort Passport. Don't even bother looking at any others.

These are not cheap, V1 about $400 and Escort about $300, but they are the best.

I have the V1, love the arrows. Once you get used to the arrows you will wonder how you ever got along with out them.

If cost is a major concern, get the Escort, otherwise go with the V1.

Anyone know the laws regarding radar detectors in California? Can you legally use them on the freeway? If not, I think the V1 has some kind of remote mounting feature?? Anyone tried this option?

They are legal in CA. I hardly ever see CHP use radar on the freeway though. I think they still mostly pace cars to determine the speed.

Before the days of laser guns, the radar guns gave off so much excess beam that any old detector gave a great warning-never got a ticket of speeding every chance I got in twenty five years.

Nowadays, it appears that when you hear a radar tone, you are being measured. Like its too late. Now I haven't got a radar ticket, but that is the way it appears. Which would make the detector useless.

The experts say you have to have aradar signal diffuser mounted on or near the license plate to beat radar. It absords the beam and prevents an echo from being sent back to the radar gun. These difussers aren't cheap; probably in the $1,000 range.

Anyone have experience of detecting the radar beam and avoiding the ticket ?

Get the V1. it'll pay for itself for sure. I hve one of those cobra things. It works but I don't trust it that much, but it has saved my ass a few times.

V1 aktion035.gif

I drive 30+ miles of speed-trap roads every day and it has saved my bootyshake.gif more times than I can count.

V1 smilie_pokal.gif

The directional arrows are the best and since it's so damn good at picking up radar that I have plenty of time to slow down when a cop is using instant-on radar. All my cars have the windshield mount so I can take it from car to car wink.gif
