I borrowed a FLIR camera from work this weekend and took some pictures of the 914. I wish I had a lift to get the car up a bit higher...

Forward looking infrared radar?

Interesting pics. why are the gauges so hot?

Posted by: tradisrad Sep 2 2013, 07:00 PM

I was wondering that my self. Only the gauges that require power are hot; fuel, volt meter, oil pressure, oil temp & AFR, so that must be why. The CHT gauge does not use 12v and is ambient temp.

I wish the pics were larger, but that is the size it takes them at.

Pretty cool.

Hot gauges are especially surprising given that glass has such a low emissivity itself, and doesn't transmit particularly well in the IR spectrum. I have been surprised that FLIR doesn't have an intuitive software that allows one to define various emissivities based on different parts of the scene.

FLIR cameras are pretty cool though!
