When I first bought my 914 it had tall bug tires.165/75 or something. Tossed 'em.
Put on Yokohama YK420 195/50's and really enjoyed the upgrade.
I drove around on those for a few months and then I found this place.
Someone said "autocross" and I was listening. I ran on the YK's for a few events and realized that they were limiting me terribly.
I next went to the Falken Azenis 205/50's. Wow, what an improvement. I used these tires for the street and the rest of the events except the last two. These tires were great for me to learn how to better drive my car.
I felt like I had found the limit, so I bought a set of Yokohama A032r 205/50 race tires. This is getting good.
They stick like glue and hardly make a sound.
I ran them at the last GGR event at Candlestick and the fun eevnt at Sears Point. My confidence level is now at the all time high...So I thought.
I picked up a set of Hoosier 205/50 track tires.
I've only run 'em for 30 minutes, but, let me tell you buddies, they are AMAZING. You have no idea how ready I am to hit the first a/x of the season.
Here's the conclusion:
I put the YK's back on today as street tires and drove on them for the first time in 6 months. I kid you not, It felt like I was riding a horse on ice skates. Those tires are NOT race tires.
What a journey it has been.

All the "old" tires you must have at your house, must have a lot of roses in round, black, "planters" in the yard.
Great story. I ran Hoosier Street TD's on my racecar and I loved them. They are very predictable and I could put the car into a 4 wheel drift with all the confidence in the world. I remember coming out of the "Carousel" @ Sebring during a DE and passing a 996 at the exit. You should've seen that guys face.
I should be the ad guy for Hoosier. They could use a picture of me and my car and say "if Hoosiers can mae this guy quick, imagine what they'll do for you?"
I should have my Kumho Ecsta V700's mounted on my polished Fuchs Saturday. # weeks till the next event. Got to do an alignment and other suspension bits. Should be fun. Going to go Heat cycle them Hopefully Sunday.
I wonder what is the *BEST* tire for a/x?
KT
Leaving schlicks out of the equation, either A3SO4 Hoosiers or
Kuhmo 710 Vracers. It's a tossup.
Both are available in your size
Speaking of tires, I just put some Michelin Pilot Sport 2's on the S4 the other day, and they are clearly the best street (non -R) tires I've ever tried. They are way quieter and smoother than the S03's I had previously, and my butt g-meter says they stick at least as well, or better.
DAMN expensive though...
That's some serious smack*
Putting the Yok's back on today and will find some lonely lot for my driving pleasure.

*from a guy who's car is nowhere near ready to race...
I can't believe you brought those slicks inside your house on the hardwood flooring.
You could have at least knocked the rocks off first.
You must not have a wife.
I can't believe you are going to beat anyone with those tires, they look like they are already worn out , heh.
