914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Aftermarket Cup holder suggestions for 914

Posted by: 75porsche914 Oct 3 2013, 09:46 PM

Can anyone suggest a good cup holder for my morning coffee? I’m looking at the option from Pelican parts that mounts in the cigarette lighter?

Has anyone found one that they love?

Advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you

A roll of duct tape on the floor.
A used cylinder upside down on the floor.
The aluminum piece that bolts to the seat rail on the passenger seat...

Last Christmas my wife gave me one that she purchased at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Has a built in clamp and 1 cup holder. There is also an additional cup for holding things like my cell phone, garage door opener, change,ETC. Not sure what it costs, but it goes on and comes off real easy.
Just my 2 cents,

If you wait a few more weeks I might have a VERY appealing option for you... shades.gif

I saw one made out a abs pipe........I think it was in Jim Hoylands car.

I'm using a duct tape roll.....when my wife is at BBB...she aint thinking of the teener.

I got this one kinda cheap. About $12 if I remember rite. The only problem is you have to put some holes in your door panel. sad.gif Other than that it works great. smile.gif I might even get to use it again, when I finally get this engine back together. smile.gif

That explains the holes in my doors... chair.gif

I have those, but mounted them on the floor screwed into the long. You really don't notice them when not in use.

I put mine in the ash tray. I'll have to take a pic when I get home.

I made his one. You can read more about it and another few ideas in this thread.

This is the thread I saw and built mine off, I just used wider straps so I didn't worry about a cup slipping through the smaller ones in the pics.

I just use a duct tape roll. I do think I have an extra cylinder laying around somewhere.

Though I don't have any pictures, a friend got a dual cup holder at the local FLAPS that can be held in position between the center console and the passenger seat (doesn't work on the early fixed passenger seat cars). It has a thin, blade like base that slips into the space and holds it steady.

Best I've seen:

The ONLY solution for CW's, since it keeps the car all original.

More seriously, this is a cupholder/changeholder assembly from (I believe) a late 80's/early 90's Ford Taurus. In the Taurus with the coin tray opened, then a photo with the cup holder opened:

Slides into a DIN slot, or as installed underdash:

There was a thread on The Samba about one like this from a different car that fit almost perfectly into a VW Bug ashtray slot. Unfortunately can't find it now, sorry.

I used a cup that has a oversize bottom. They were popular 30 years ago

this works -- i like the idea of the under dash one above too!

I need a good one too. When I drive my car to the shop,I wear sneakers and put my steeltoe boots on the passenger floor. They make a pretty damn good cup holder. biggrin.gif

just made it now; took a bit of time. I wish I had a metal hole saw, took all of 4 rivets, one foot of strap, and two screws to hold the front vinyl pad, did not want to use those screws but the undersupport plastic was degraded too much, I think I will change them to black.

Here a few more from a thread on thesamba. People seem obsessed with cupholders, very odd. Anyway, a new favorite, for an on-stage mic stand, but easily re-bent and adapted to hang from the dash:

JBUGS also carries all the colors and I like to support the aircooled vendors.

Fantastic. Been looking for a solution for cup holders. Is it easy to install? I have a perfectly good centre console (stock) so wanted to check to see if the install is fairly easy and the holes line up.

thanks.
