Well, after replacing the MC, upgrading to front BMW calipers and replacing the brake hoses... it's starting to come together!
I finally started seeing signs of pedal pressure when I was bleeding the brakes. Still not happy with it... but my "helper" got sore trying to pump the brakes...
I'm gonna take it in tomorrow to have a shop look it over. Seats are coming in Tuesday or Wednesday.
If all goes well, I'll be doin' the hangover rally
NICE
Wait. We're teeners (cheap, but fun dates) Let it sit over-night. Go get a cheapie power-bleeder. I got mine @ da'boys. 20 bucks or somethin' - Start at the longest brake line from the m/c & work your way to the front. Do it again. Wait an hr. or so. Do it again. You should have a firm peddle. If not, then take it to a pro.
I thought about that.. but i'm sick and tired of bleeding the damn brakes on this thing.. 3 days is enough!!! I'll pay someone to do it, and concentrate on other things I can handle better...
i guess that's the spirit
Did you bleed the rear brake proportion valve? Sometimes there is some air in there. I got tired of the time I spent bleeding until I got the air out of the valve. Thanks Mark

Starving college student will work on teeners for food Please Help |
Who are you calling cheap?
I made my power bleeder from spare parts from a 914.
A brake cap
A tire valve stem
The windshield washer air pressure hose.
I use air pressure from a tire and pressurize the brake fluid reservoir to pressure bleed my brakes.
I thought about using one of those cheap-o weed sprayers from Wally World, but they were too expensive.....
Aaron... if you wanna take the drive to Simi... I'll pay for your gas, your food, and a modest hourly wage. Did I mention beer too???
I'd love to get some help from someone who's "been there" enough to really know these cars. I just really want to make it to the rally this weekend... "at all costs" so to speak. So... if you wanna make some money and drink some beer, let me know... I'm working MOnday and Tuesday... but I'm off from Wed-Fri....
PM me if you weren't kidding... or even if you were, so I can make plans.

Hey,
No problem. I knew it was a long shot, but sometimes money talks, as you well know. Then again, the prospect of driving in the rain is never appealing, especially in a 914, right?
Have a great (rainy) day.

That will depend on whether or not I get my brakes done. I also want to have a "pro" check my suspension. But if I make it, I'll still buy you a beer!

Two words, speed bleeders.
I installed a set on my tail dragger and they are slick. Just top off your reservoir, crack open the bleeder on the caliper, run a hose from the bleeder to a container then get in the car and pump. That's all it takes. You just have to keep an eye on the resdervoir to make sure it doesn't
run dry.
After a while tighten the bleeder and you have a firm pedal.
I already have speed bleeders... but I honestly haven't seen them make any difference... using them, I couldn't get any pressure built into the system. As soon as I went back to the ol' standby of a friend pumping... I started getting pressure in the system.
Maybe it's just superstition... but it's just not working for me.
Carlos
I thought about it long and hard and came to a realization:
Speed bleeders won't work at all unless you have enough system pressure to open the spring loaded check valve. Maybe that was what was happening with yours.
If you have a whole bunch of air in the system it will compress without building enough pressure to open the valves.
On mine i didn't have hardly any air in the system and they worked great.
I Learned sumthin new today.
Don't we have a member or two in Newbury park/Moorpark area that can help him out??
