914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Rust areas ?

Posted by: Hammy Dec 27 2004, 03:12 AM

My 914 will be exposed to rain so I'm wondering what are areas prone to rust and water build up and if there are some good ways to prevent or slow it down.
I've read about drilling drain holes in places, so what about all that? And Engine/carb water covers? Thanks..

Just get a cover. and tie it down with rope and such.
Get it good and snug so it wont come off.

Thats the best thing for the weather thats ahead. Drilling holes will make for more rust.

You need to cover it.
Period.

Yes, please cover it, and keep it clean and free of debris. These cars will make their own drain-holes in no time.

Believe it or not your car has drain holes on both sides of the forward engine bay. They get filled with debris & then they don't drain and water collects. Probably be a good idea to clean the drains out prior to a storage.

Don't forget the drain holes beneath the headlights, too.

Take some time and seal up your taillights - a common spot for water to leak in.

Check the 914 Products forum for Perry Keihl's 914 Umbrella.

Hope this helps,
