914World.com _ 914World Garage _ OEM "Banana" 2.0 Liter MUFFLER ?

Posted by: 914LIVE Nov 28 2013, 10:43 PM

Good day to all.

Question :

I have a "Leistritz" (made in W. Germany)
Typ VW Porsche 914/4 OEM "Banana" muffler.

Is there STAINLESS STEEL under the gray top coating ?

This is an original muffler with only 1,000 miles and the metal
under the thick gray finish/coating appears to be STAINLESS STEEL.

Any thoughts, ideas ?

PM or reloportland@aol.com

Thank you.

Try a magnet, to see if it is Stainless or not.

Even if it' not ss, it's a great muffler. I just refinished one last month and it appeared to have a little rust in a couple spots. Never crossed my mind to check what it was made out of confused24.gif

I was extremely lucky, picked that one up for $125. smile.gif

Added 2 hours labor; blasting, sanding, prep and paint.

I've seen similar ones go for north of $400.
