So, you're basing this statement off a license plate? confused24.gif

Did you get the VIN?

I did not find the guy that was driving it. It was parked in the KMW Motorsports paddock area. I can't believe I didn't think to get a picture of the serial number. headbang.gif

I'm basing the statement on the information at hand. Call the number and ask for yourself.

Doesn't matter....that's a stunner!

(...and a big guy in a little car!)

Posted by: JmuRiz Dec 11 2013, 03:37 PM

Funny, I just realized he has those old school 'engine turned' carpet protectors in his car...like the ones I had in mine. Looks like he doesn't have the door pieces though. Dig that 70's style...
(see below for an old pic of my interior)

This is a beautiful car. drooley.gif
So, Its a real 6 GT? Is that to say, it has Porsche installed flares?
I am working on my front valance to flare so this is special interest to me.
What I see here is a perfect transition from valance to flare. I will need to give my AA flares some special attention to get here.
Is this authentic Porsche?Attached Image

The engine grille is not a 6-GT ether.

I thought on all -6's, ignition switch was in the left side of the dash, this one clearly has ignition on the stalk. is this how the gt's were configured?

You are mistaken if you mean the GT this thread is about has one on the stalk. The picture above with one does not even say it's a six. He is just posting something about the interior. Also in 72 the sixes had a stock 4 stock which meant it had one there. Not to many 6's made in 72 but they do exist

That picture of the interior is from a completely different car and not related at all to the initial question raised in this thread ...

and they are on the GT List - without M471s they would not have been Homolagated.

Most Cars that were raced in the 70's were Not GTs

This debate has been going on for 40+ years. biggrin.gif

Here's how i see it, in order of "provenance":

- Porsche build and raced
- Porsche build and sold to customers
- Dealer build and sold to customers
- Customer build using genuine Porsche parts

For me a real GT has to have a internal Porsche project number, like these:

9140430019, Project# 914/31
9140430705, Project# 914/39
9140430709, Project# 914/40

I get the homogulation issue, and there's no slam to a M471 (they're arguably more rare than a GT).

I'm just saying, Steve's car wouldn't have a "GT" engine grill from the factory. Nor would it have a 906 motor etc. Maybe this guys car is the same. I don't know the car or the owner so I don't really care to comment beyond that.

Factory applied flares, wheel spacers and 6" rims a "GT" not make (in my book). Maybe we're into semantics.

did you ever read the headline of the list idea.gif

it clearly says that there are GTs on it as well as M471 cars
this definitely indicates, that these are two different types of cars

I've read it, but I consider them to be more GT than the non GT Cars that were raced in the Day..

Also the original question was about the Engine Lid - I have seen at least 4 Different GT Engine Lids. They all look like they were made in someone's backyard by 10 year olds

What people often forget is that the factory racing effort for the 914s in those days was by no means an organized endeavor.

For the most part, they were flying blind and a lot of things were tested, hacked together, used, discarded and generally improvised.

Wonder why they went with a non stock mirror

those are Talbot mirrors - - essential back in the day for many euro race & rallye cars, and also quite popular in Japan

frequently fender mounted as was the style for better rear view in track traffic, (you don't have to turn your head to see the guys overtaking you on either side)

i have a beautiful pair of them in a box that were on my car in Germany, and i ran them on my car when i raced it in the 90's

but i think they look kind'a goofy on a street car - so they are in a box

these days genuine early Talbot go for big $$$ on eaBay

- everytime i go to a Concours, the judges ding me for "missing mirrors" where the fender mount holes are

(but they never notice that i now have Miata electric mirrors on the doors!)
