Good morning, all! The first time I posted on Brad's "914 Club" was to ask for a little help getting a friend's house ready to live in. People showed up and ass was kicked and names taken. Been a long time, time for me to get nearly 10K posts in, and it's been fun all the way. This time, 9 1/2 years later, I'm asking for donations to help my niece, Sarah Roselli, raise funds to offset out-of-the-pocket expenses for breast cancer treatment. She lives and teaches school in Colombia, where she has medical insurance, and she also has some coverage here. There are a LOT of expenses not covered by either plan, and any help you can give is both sorely needed and greatly appreciated. I'm attaching a couple of links to make donating easy. Don't have much money? A few bucks is all I'm asking. You don't really need that 6-pack today, anyway! Just sold a car and feelin' flush? Maybe a little bit of that windfall could go to help this teacher in need. Gotta mother, a wife, or a daughter? YOU may be up against this someday!
Here's the major link, taking credit cards and Paypal (note: this site asks for a $25 donation to keep the site running, the site below doesn't): https://www.youcaring.com/sarahroselli
Here's a link to another Paypal donation site if you can't get that one to work: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=FPBTLGFNRFL66
These sites are well managed and every penny goes toward Sarah's expenses!
Feel free to donate anonymously if you wish, but please mention 914 World so folks can see how we come together when the need arises.
Thanks for reading this, and TIA for any help you can give her! YOU can help her slam right up against that $10K goal!

Done Wish I could do more (have a family member we're supporting too) but I hope that helps some.
Done. I used the first site you listed. It added a 5% fee to what I donated. Prayers.
done; It can be beaten, there are a lot of us survivors out here.
Best wishes to Sarah and your family.
RX
Capn I'm not a Paypal guy I tried to pay with a credit card but was denied on the first link you posted. Any suggestions ?
Done and I wish her all the best.
Done !!
Hello Captain,
PM sent.
Daughter-in-law under went bilateral mastectomies three weeks ago, nodes were clean, chemo to start.
Best wishes for the young ladies, yours and mine.
Olin
Just a note to thank those of you have responded. I've discussed credit/debit (non-Paypal) donation issues with Sarah's fundraising friend, and she's looking into a fix. If you don't participate in the whole online money thing, but you still want to donate, PM me and we'll discuss options.
Thanks!
The Cap'n
Capn can you PM me with a name/address and I'll send a check ?
Done, best of luck to Sarah.
Done! Hope all goes well!
Again, thanks! There's now a CC/Debit option in the lower left corner of the Paypal page, where it appears you can donate without opening a PP account. Just click on "continue".
The Cap'n
Done. All the best to Sarah.
Used the second link. Best wishes to Sarah for a long and happy life.

Done. You have always taken the time to help me and many others. Let us know if you or Sara need anything else. I have lost friends and family to this disease and my most sincere wish is to spare anyone else from that.
Done. "what he said". We deal with this in our family too, so as the kinder in the house say, the "feels" are real.
Here's to good fortune in the treatment!
--krk.
Done! Wishing her the best.
Thanks to all who've donated to Sarah's fund so far. We're just over a quarter of the way to our goal and things are lookin' good. She's now bald, and having a bit of emotional trouble with that fashion statement, but it can only get better!
The Cap'n
For a good cause!
Done. Wishes for a speedy recovery to Sarah!
Heads up! Be SURE you mark any Paypal transfer to Sarah as a "DONATION" or "GIFT"! Paypal let's 'em by for free. No sense letting legitimate donations be dinged for a piece of the action by our giant banker in the sky.
And thanks, BTW. The accumulated gifts have surpassed a third of our goal. Those of you who have thought about it but haven't made a commitment, please do! Over 500 914 Worlders have looked at this, a couple of dozen have opened their hearts and wallets. Remember, every little bit makes a difference ...............
The Cap'n
Cap'n,
For all your advise its the least I could do. Wish I could give more.

Cap'n, if and when these wheels sell, I will donate ALL of the sale price money to your niece's needs.
Shoe
Cap'n, you should post this in the garage, not all of us frequent the sandbox, only saw this because of shoe's post in the classifieds. Glad to help though, my daughter survived brain cancer and a brain operation, cancer free for 5 years now, there's lots of hope, and lots of help....good luck to you and you're family.
Jeff
I chose the sandbox because I fear the wrath of the Admins. Well, maybe not that much, but a little. Maybe I can get it moved. I suppose there have been worse NPC things there ................... I'll let one of them know. Thanks for the support!
The Cap'n
Done Cap'n! Happy to help a bit & she'll be in my prayers! All the best to Sarah & her family through this trying time
Done. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I would think this would do better in the garage. I know it is off topic but quite a few members don't even get to the sandbox
Ahhh, here we are in the Garage. Thanks, Clay (and his admin cronies)! More eyes on the topic, more folks have a chance to help Sarah reach her goal.
The Cap'n
Cap'n Krusty,
My Mother went through this and is now doing well!!!
Happy to help the Krusty one!!
All the best to Sarah!!!!

Admin, thanks for putting this in the Garage. Now we can have more "Open Sea to Sail" in getting help for Sarah. The Cap't is the Capain and we are his shipmates who will sail the "high seas" (ocean for you landlubbers) in helping Sarah and the family.
Thanks, Cap't, for making us aware of us. As the Cap't mentioned when we were 914club, the group did some wonder things for members when it was needed. This was done without question and with the entire force of giving to help a needy member in a timely manner. Shades of "Old 914world" without the arguments.
This exactly why I have belonged to this club (914club and 914world).
I talk too much. Cap't, we will continue to work for you as your crew.

Just for Sarah. Thanks for the tip Cap'n.

BTW, please keep us posted on her progress. Thoughts and prayers are included with my donation.
Done, I wish her the best possible recovery and thank god for community.
Best wishes and donation sent.
Small, but something.
Donated. Best of luck and hope for Sarah!
Cap'n, you are one of the many reasons I come to this forum and can always count on your expertise to help me through 914 issues. So, happy to donate to this....
And FYI, I lost my wife to cancer in 2007 and it was the most harrowing and traumatic things to live through. I wish no one had to deal with these diseases......
Cancer truly sucks!! Jon
Thanks Capn
Bump for Sarah. Cancer can be cured these days. But it takes money people.
Done, with the understanding that your helpful observations, recommendations and oft time ascerbic/sardonic comments continue Cap'n. My wife is a long time survivor as am I (although not breast cancer) so our thoughts are to Sara and her family.
Keith
done, best wishes to your niece.
Done. Just saw this today or else I may have missed it. Thanks to whoever put it in the garage. Very happy to help!
Done
Done, my Mom is a survivor of 20 years this March.
My Mom was also a breast cancer survivor.
Donation made.
My best wishes to Sarah and family.
Done. The Big C needs to have it's butt kicked often and hard.
Hope it goes well.
Cap'n,
Please pm me her address and who I should make the check out to and I'll be sure to send it off. Thanks.
Clark.
Done...from one "Captain" to another.
I'd hazard a guess that just about every guy on this board knows someone that's had to deal with this at some point.
I'll also Tweet/Instagram a link if that's OK by you. No sense in having 10K followers if I can't use it for good once in a while.
Done. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Done! Best of luck to your niece.
OK, PM sent, I think I'm all caught up, I'm outtahere until tomorrow afternoon! Play nice, kids ..................
The Cap'n
Done, godspeed on her recovery!!!
Back from LA! Had dinner with Sarah Tuesday evening, and she's handling all this stuff really well. She's humbled, BTW, at the support she's getting, not only from close friends, but from total strangers...... Little does she know how strange we really are! She sends her thanks! She's OK with me giving you a little rundown on the situation. Her cancer is a particularly aggressive form, and she would have been sent home to die 5 years ago. However, since that time they've developed specific targeted drugs and therapies for what she has, and the survival rate is high. Chemo first, to stop what's there from spreading throughout her body, and possibly shrink the existing mass, then surgery to remove what's left. After the initial diagnosis in Colombia, and the start of treatment, she came home to California and had an extensive consultation with the oncologists at the cancer center at USC. She had her second chemo session there. There's a good open line of communication between her doctors there and the ones in Colombia, and they're jointly overseeing the therapy. A high level of mutual respect exists between all the doctors involved, and she feels comfortable with all of 'em. She could choose to continue the protocol in either country. Her insurance for Colombia is very good, but doesn't cover her here. She's signed up and has paid for participation in the ACA here. Out of pocket expenses are a big thing here, not so much there, but she's gonna need every penny she can raise to help her out with those. We're about half way to the $10K mark, and that's a no-frills number.
Again, she has asked me to convey her thanks to all of you who have chipped in, and she's gonna keep me updated on her progress. When she's gotten through the initial phases, I think I can get her to post here. Here are a couple of pix, one before the haircut, one after. Sorry, no picture after what was left all fell out .............
Done, (first link).
It's our turn to help you and your niece.
Pics belong in the Hot Chicks thread. Pretty young lady.
I lost my Brother inlaw this year to Cancer. He was my best friend and work pal. Let's keep this at the top for the weekend.
Done . . . and Cap'n, thanks for setting this up. Best regards for you and best wishes for Ms. Sarah.
Steve A-
Paypal on the way. Best of luck.

Back to the top on Saturday night.
Check in the mail ...
Deposited a couple of checks and moved the money into Sarah's Paypal account over the weekend. Thanks to all who have donated so far. Shows what kind of people hang around 914 World! Keep it up, folks! The goal is in sight!
The Cap'n
Just paypal'd you. I didn't see where to list 914world. No matter. God bless.
Almost half way there...
Two more checks into the bank and transferred to Sarah's Paypal account. Thanks guys! We're now just a little over half way, and the help that's come from this site has been a significant part of the effort. I'd sure like to see more of you represented in the final push! Notes of support may be sent to the following Facebook site: <www.facebook.com/supportsarahroselli>, and I expect there'll be progress reports there later on. Of course, I'll be supplying those here, as well.
THANKS AGAIN!!!
The Cap'n
Done, forgot to say i was from here, but doesnt matter. Good luck to her
OK. Been close to 3 weeks! We're way down on page 3 this morning, so it looks like we're about done here. I sincerely thank all of you who participated with your donations, thoughts, and prayers. For anyone wishing to add to the fund, the direct Paypal link (4sarahroselli@gmail.com) remains valid, the other one is closed. I'll start a new thread with any updates or messages from Sarah as she progresses through her treatment.
Thanks again!
The Cap'n
Had a good month,,,, sent a couple extra $$$$,,, send my best wishes!!
bump
Don't know how I missed this.
Done
Likewise, how'd I miss this?
Anyone want to do a rebuild for charity thing again? I can donate labor cost to the cause.
Dropped my dime on the pile. "C" survivor myself...
News from Sarah! And I quote: "I got great news today!! The oncologist said that the amount of tumor shrinkage he hoped I would have after 4 chemotherapy treatments has happened after only 2!! I know it is because of all the prayers, love, and support I have gotten!! I am eternally grateful!!"
The Cap'n
Amen!
very good news.
Kool ... best news so far in 2014
Awesome news!
Great news Cap'n! She must be very relieved. How much $$$ is left for us to raise?
Just bought one ticket. Wish I could help more.
Update! Sarah had her 3rd round of chemo a little over a week ago. Because of her lowered resistance, she's now in the grip of a nasty cold, but getting better. Her mother is with her in Colombia, and she's surrounded by friends. This is good, keeps her spirits up and they make sure she's fed and her other needs are fulfilled. Having cancer sucks, having cancer and being sick sucks, having cancer, being sick, and becoming impoverished REALLY sucks. On her behalf, I would like to thank all of you who have participated in this act of charity, because it means Sarah is pretty much free of having to worry about where the "out-of-pocket" money is gonna come from.
We're still short of the goal, but Jaime and Dr. Evil are working furiously to get us there. I urge anyone reading this who hasn't participated in the act of giving to either buy a T-shirt (a sure conversation starter!) or take a shot at one of the good Dr.s' outstanding tranny rebuilds.
Oh, I almost forgot: Dr. Evil and his family are down with the crud. GET WELL, DOC!
The Cap'n
I haven't been on the board in a while......better late than never. Cap'n good luck with the remaining fund raising, best wishes to Sarah.
From Sarah: My first day at chemotherapy at USC is making me reflect on how blessed I am. Thank you to everyone I am about to list, and to the many others not mentioned in this post by name. There are so many people giving me so much support! Here are some examples: Yesterday, my uncle John Larson met me at LAX after dealing with LA traffic to bring me a car to use while I am in LA. This morning, I woke up in Jennifer Amaro Palumbo's comfy house where I am blessed to be staying, with not a friend, but a sister. I am wearing a shirt from my students, with all of their names and great quotes. My favorite line from the shirt is “Hey cancer!...You picked the wrong B*!%$!” (It actually says the word, but I don’t want to get in trouble on FB for cussing!) The shirt feels like a hug supporting me as I prepare to go through chemo. My boyfriend, Eduardo Sarmiento, loved the shirt so much that he wanted to sign it too, and I thought you guys would not mind, so his name is now on it. I look at my cross and “Fearless” bracelets that my mom, Carol Roselli gave me that remind me of all the people praying for me today. I ‘draw’ on eyebrows that slowly fell out months ago, but thanks to Natalie Amaro Stowe, no one knows that they are no longer there. I also put on my red lipstick, a present from Natalie and an idea from Helana Corda to make me feel better. I am wearing my pink socks from Ginny Wootton Gallagher LaRowe to keep me comfy during my 5+ hours of chemo. I brought a scarf, a present from students, in case I get tired of wearing my wig during treatment, I can put it on. I hold on tight to my book of letters that Leann Lear had students and staff at Colegio Panamericano made for me. I have read it twice today alone to make me happy! Brigitte Thomas is with me at USC where I pay my copay with the money that Kari Belajic amazingly had friends, family, and loved ones raised to pay for my cancer expenses. Thank you everyone!!!!! I am feeling so much love!!!!
Please note that, through Kari Belajic, who coordinated the fundraising, 914 World was responsible for nearly 50% of the over $10K raised. She's simply OVERWHELMED by your generosity.
Thanks again to ALL of you!
The Cap'n
I'll keep on saying prayers & thinking of her. She looks great!
never give up
Update. One more chemo session! After that, on May 13th, more tests to see how much tumor remains, then surgery. She feels like crap most of the time, but they say chemo does that to a person .............. The money's holding out, and I got her a car so she can get around without blowing a big chunk of the funds.
Again, our most heartfelt thanks for all the support!
The Cap'n
Hey Cap'n - that's great to hear Sarah is progressing through the chemo, hope things continue
to improve. I lived through my wife's cancer, surgeries, radiation, chemo, etc. in all it's various phases
and she eventually passed away from it. It's not fun or kind to patient, family or friends alike and
I wish Sarah the best of luck with getting past it and on with her life. Keep us posted! Jon
Done.
Thanks for the updates! She is in our prayers.
to the 914World members, I am deeply honored to be a part of the family here. The way this group of strangers has stood up and helped out one of our own is absolutely amazing!
Yea chemo really really sucks
Only those who have gone through it truly understand.
Glad to hear she is doing well and hopefully the tumor has responded well to the treatments. Cancer can be beaten and it sounds like she is a fighter and has a loving and supporting family. Those are a good combos.
Keeping her in my prayers and praying for complete remission for her.
From Sarah, just now! "Last day of chemo! It has been 6 very long months of some big lows and moments of pure joy from all the love and support! I still have to deal with the side effects from this last chemo, but knowing this is it will help get me through. As always, I am eternally grateful for all the prayers, love, and support! I could not have made it this far without it! Surgery to remove what is left (if anything!) is scheduled for June 19. Feeling so blessed today!"
She came up from LA for a visit last week, and she's hangin' tough and lookin' good. Despite the effects of the chemo, her attitude is an inspiration.
Thanks again. Can I ever thank you all enough? Maybe not.
The Cap'n
Great to hear the Update's Cap'n. Sounds like she has done well through such a horrid time. Chemo is just brutal on the body. Glad to hear she is done with it. I hope it has done it's job well
No thx needed. I owed you a favor anyway. Just as I suspect everyone here does. Btw, you were kind enough to loan me a tool, once. I never forget and always return the deed; god or bad!
Yeah, but did you return the tool
I knew I forgot something!
So glad to her she is doing well! Hope this is all that she has to endure.
Yep many of us owe you Cap'n but there are few things that are more worthy than helping out someone that really needs help. All of us were glad you allowed us to help Sarah and to be part of something meaningful.
Update! From Sarah today:
"Best news ever!! My MRI results came back NEGATIVE for cancer in my breast!!! The prayers, new drugs, and chemo worked!! Still need surgery next month, but this is HUGE!!!!"
See, throwing money at it worked! Seriously, we can never thank you all enough.
The Cap'n
very good news.
This update is all the thanks we need! Excellent to hear this news!!
Brought a tear of joy to my eye to hear that!
HOORAY!
Double post, my bad
Very nice.
In a parallel universe, my daughter in law will complete her six months of chemotherapy in a few weeks. She underwent bilateral mastectomies in December, and other than being quite sick from the chemo, is also doing well.
Fantastic news, so glad she is doing well !!!!
This thread definitely hits home. My wife has "the gene", somehow skipped her older sister and came through her dad, lots of her aunts/grandmas have had it, and on my side my dad's mom died from it, and my dad had (and beat) non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in the early 90's. We're already planning preventative plans of attack after the second baby, and it may result in her preemptively losing the woobies. That, and now I have to see if my little girl has it too.
Please give lots of hugs and high-fives to your niece! It's awesome to hear about her victories and see how a little internet car club was able to help speed them along!
Well, Colombia won, and Sarah can go into the OR for her surgery! Here she is, with her significant other and her mother, watching the game (well, mugging for the camera) while awaiting her surgery. Almost through the process. She has the gene, as mentioned above, so she's gotta do what she can to avoid further problems. Please keep her in your prayers!
Thanks again for all you've done!
Cap'n, any updates?
My apology for a late reply to your request. I just did read your posting. Our prayers are with Sarah and her family.
Keeping the thread alive...
Donated a bit today, and best wishes for continued recovery and fun times down south!
Just caught this. Thanks for keeping Sarah in your thoughts and prayers, and for your ongoing support! She's close to being finished with her post-op chemo. Just as she was cleared to drive, she mis-stepped when getting out of the car and broke her ankle. That's somewhat behind her now, and she's able to get around. Cosmetic surgery sometime in Mid to late September, and she'll be cleared to resume looking for work. Maybe here, maybe back in Colombia.
The Cap'n
Very glad to hear that she is doing so well and happy to think that I may have helped in some small way. I hope that she knows just how much she means to Uncle Crusty.
