914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 2014 Hershey PA Swap Meet

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Dec 31 2013, 01:17 PM

That time of year again.
Time to reserve rooms at the inn.
Time to think about what you may want to sell or buy.
Time to think about heading to Hershey PA for the anual swap meet and party!

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Dec 31 2013, 04:51 PM

A note for whoever ends up buying a block of tickets. The CPA guy who handles tickets only gives a set number of car passes no matter the number of spaces you buy. If we want to be together as a group the person who buys the block of tickets has to buy them bundles, not just as one sale. Otherwise it's an issue making sure everyone who gets a ticket gets a paid spot in the gate. Insane, and unfair, but we have learned to work around this nice little piece of BS.

This year it may actually happen.

Just looked on Hershey park calendar & they are doing "Springtime in the park" this same weekend & the one before. Once the park fully opens up they don't have room for the swap. Hoping for no rain.

If it wasn't an 11hr drive one way for me I would make the run, but pulling a trailer full of crap valuable 914 parts, on Friday then all day Saturday at the meet then to try to be home in time Sunday am to attended Easter services. dry.gif

I guess I will see about attending the Carlisle swap meet the following weekend instead. confused24.gif

I'd recommend the Import/Kit Car swap meet instead. I've found the Spring Carlisle event is geared more toward American antiques (cars that is ...) Even so, Import/Kit Car is more Swedish/English, not much VW and less Porsche ...

Is the Knights Inn the rendez-vous place again this year?

beerchug.gif

Posted by: CptTripps Mar 4 2014, 08:34 AM

I'm in...and planning on driving my 914.

It may be the maiden voyage, which means I'll have to stop 2-3 times for oil changes along the way. (Breaking in a freshly built motor.)

Worst-case scenario, I'll get to use up the remaining miles on my DD lease before it goes back to the dealership on April 25th.

So...where am I reserving a room?

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Mar 4 2014, 08:36 AM

Knights Inn is the place. It's in Palmyra PA.

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Mar 4 2014, 08:37 AM

Reminder that someone needs to organize spaces at the swap meet if we want to have a block. I don't have time to do it this year but can help the person who steps up.

See if the park is open that weekend.
I did it once with all of them when they were kids....it was loads of fun for them and me...I did cars and park...they looked at cars and left me in the swap alone and played in the park all day.

Iffy if it will be open, but it was when we did it, about 14 years ago.

We also rented a cabin in a campground nearby.
Private cabin with kitchen, pretty cheap from what I recall.

The Zoo and Chocolate World will be open. The show is usually the weekend prior to the amusement park itself opening to the public.
IIRC there has typically been a private event that Ken has been invited to at the park that Saturday.

Comming up on one month out.
As of yet no one has stepped forward to handle buying spaces. Folks may be going out on their own this year, and that's fine. It would be nice to have a central hang out point during the event.

Is anyone buying spaces at the event? Do you want us miscreants hanging out with you?

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Mar 18 2014, 12:46 PM

It's a swap meet, and you have to buy spaces from PCA. In the past someone had stepped up to organize that effort. Chris (Tangerine) did it for a few years, I did it last year.

Essentially someone World buys a block of spaces (funded by individual members) so that we can all have a hang out palace during the show as well as sell stuff. I'm not bringing stuff to sell this year and don't have the time to org the slots, so am looking for someone to take up the mantle.

PCA has been difficult to work with on this in the past, and I had to go out of pocket to make sure everyone who paid for a spot got one. This pissed me off towards PCA in a big way and I just don't have he energy to do it this year ( though I'm happy to help the next guy avoid the pitfalls PCA places in your way).

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 18 2014, 03:44 PM

I sent an email to CPA.PCA to get the ball rolling.

John

I just talked to Zach and am waiting to see if we can still qualify for early registration.

If I do not hear back from them in 24 hours, we will have to assume it will be full price for the spaces which is $50.00 per 9 X 18 space. At this point I can not guarantee that will get your car in. And If you do get a car in, it must also be on your 9 X 18 space.

Get your registration fees ready. When I hear back from the PCA, I will post my PP account and what the final $# is.

John

Posted by: eimc Mar 18 2014, 05:41 PM

you probably will no hear back from them (this has happened in past) Just go online and register I registered at www. cpa-pca.org/swap/2014 enter and scrow down to register Paul

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 18 2014, 05:50 PM

The purpose of me coordinating is so we can have a block of spaces together. If you do not care about location just register online on your own.

John

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 18 2014, 06:30 PM

PCA just made initial contact with me and they are happy to have us as a group. I need to get an approximate count on members who want to reserve selling space. I think the easiest way is for me to do a group survey. Take a look and check in.

Thanks

What I have to sell could fit in a gym bag and probably wouldn't cover the cost of the space.

My intention is to meet you guys, party a bit, and hopefully learn a few things. Maybe buy a couple of T shirts and bust Ray Mital's chops.

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 19 2014, 07:18 AM

If you want to sell a few things why dont you split a space. Let me know and I will make the arrangements.

Would someone be willing to ship the shit, err... very important parts I buy back to Texas for me, or do I have to freak out the shipping person at Office Depot again?

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 19 2014, 06:58 PM

Tomorrow (the 20th) is the deadline for the reduced rate of $40.00 per vendor spot. I have five spots tallied in the poll so far. I will let this go till tomorrow night and I will reserve a block of side by side spaces. I will pay for the spaces and we will catch up. Then I will let it go another week to see if we have any additions. If PCA will let me, I will try to add to our original block, if not I will do the best to get them near by.

John
Don't forget to make your own hotel reservations and reservations for beer and wings Friday night.

I have Underdogs Harrisburg at 8:00 pm.

Put me down for a spot and let me know who I need to pay. I've already got my room covered.

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 20 2014, 03:45 PM

I paid for a block of spaces today and got it in for the early registration fees of $40.00 ea.

Spaces Reserved are for:
Dr Evil
Mepstein
Cptripps
puffinator 2 spaces: includes one car pass
wndsnd: includes one car pass (because I put this together) rolleyes.gif

extra space Shawn includes last car pass.

John

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 20 2014, 08:47 PM

I just heard from PCA. They are giving out one vehicle pass for every two spaces. I got 7 spaces and have already gone out on a limb buying two extra spaces for possible straglers so I don't really want to get one more. That means we have only 3 cars allowed in the swap area and these cars must enter the park together as a group.

Of course there will be other parking areas away from the swap area.

John

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 21 2014, 11:08 AM

See post #102 and #103

Note: There is just one car spot left unless we reserve more block spaces.
I think it should be assigned to a double space reservation so who wants to step up and pay for another space and get the parking spot?

John

Posted by: Big Len Mar 21 2014, 02:22 PM

I'll buy it. Tell me where to send the money.

Posted by: wndsnd Mar 21 2014, 02:29 PM

Len,

I don't have you down for a space and I thought you weren't selling. I thought it would be best for someone with a car full of parts that wants to park on site and sell parts.

I appreciate your offer but the group has plenty of spaces for everyone to hang out in now so only the guys selling should pay for spots.

PS. Someone will want that parking space so I know I will not be left holding the bag!

Looking forward to meeting you and seeing you there...

John

Posted by: Big Len Mar 21 2014, 02:52 PM

OK John. Just didn't want you to get stuck with it after paying for extra spaces.

If I make it I will bring plenty of wine. I have 190 gallons of 2013 aging in the winery, of course that will not be ready, but the 2012 is very good and I still have a few bottles of 2011 and 2010. I gonna try, hopefully Racer Chris will get the parts back to me soon. Eric at PMB already came through with the brakes. How hard could it be to put it all back together?

if its the rear you are talking about, its not really that hard, i just completed that job. If you kept track of your alignment shims, you should be pretty close to put them back same as they came out. My trailing arms came i had powdercoated, came from bruce stone, but went to PMB where they put the bearings in for me. i had new 5 lug conversion, with new bearings etc , calipers , CV's from tangerine, it went pretty fast. probably had it all done in one day, but, remember after bleeding brakes to follow Eric's proceedure to set the pads! good luck.
Phil

Posted by: rgolia Mar 25 2014, 02:09 PM

Phil, thanks for the encouragement. Yes it is the rear and I have the shim stack for each side measured. Went the same way you did with the trailing arms powder coated and the bearing and hubs pressed in by others. Also have new axles and cvs done by others so all I have to do is bolt it all together. Now if my old body cooperates I could get it done in a day...or two and make the event....unless beer gets in the way. beer3.gif and it happens all the time when I am working on the teener.

Zach, before you posted this I made a reservation for myself and three others that will be with me with Irene at Underdogs. I explained that others might be calling and that it was a Porsche Group. (Didn't go into the Narp thing !). She said to make all reservations with her and she would do her best to get our group all seated together. When you get your count I suggest you coordinate with Irene. Also if anyone else made independent reservations I would suggest calling Irene and getting her to add to the group.

I got the reservation back from PCA on Friday. However they only acknowledged 6 out of our 7 spaces. So I need to get that straight with them.

Mr. Epstein, I mailed your copy on Saturday as promised. Since they came late, everyone else, look me up at Underdogs or at Front Gate at 7:00 a.m. I will post a copy tomorrow that you can print as well.

Do we have special parking, or do I need to let them know at the front gate, that we all want to park together. I did like the area we had near the concourse area.

Posted by: wndsnd Apr 13 2014, 07:14 PM

They actually moved the Swap to the lot at Giants Arena, so I am not sure how that is going to go.

It says we must have vendor decal (included w/this letter) on the vehicle windshield or we will be charged vendor fees again.
Did you get multiple vendor decals? I wanted the 2 spaces because I need one for my truck which will have all my stuff.

To Clarify,

If you paid for a space to sell items with the group (me) then this is your onsite pass.
It is not a parking pass. It will allow you to set up in one of the assigned spaces.

If you are just going to enjoy the event, there will be fee collections by PCA there. Do not use these passes. They are for paid for reserved spaces only.

I had spaces reserved for
Dr. Evil
Mark Epstein and Saigon 71
Doug Hardman
Rob Mairs (2) spaces includes parking pass
and Myself Included parking pass
and one extra, paid for by me but I think someone asked for it.. (I found I committted to Shawn with parking pass)

Total Seven Spots,
PCA confirmed six, so I am waiting on the seventh assignment.

If I missed you holler.......

I may just park my 914 with the rest. No need to park it at the vendor spot. The bus would have parked there.....but I am giving up on it for now. So, I may have spare sticker for a larger vehicle.

Mike,

Unless you paid for two spaces, you did not get a sticker.
They only give one sticker per two spaces.

we have three total for the seven spaces.

Only one person paid me for two spaces, thats Rob Mairs (puffinator)

Looks like I won't be able to make it. Combination of car not working (See MPS thread) and the fact that I am very sick now.

I really wanted to go and meet everyone, but it won't happen unfortunately. Thanks to 914itis for trying to get my car working.

Sorry I had to bail yesterday.

I realized that missing Easter morning was going to really suck. So I just packed it up and bailed.

Hope someone was able to use my (aweful) room.

Paul great meeting you and great job on the conversion. I drove behind you for a bit and your car sounds sic, (in a good way). No chance in hell staying with you.

Picked up a 2.7 down there so my next project begins. This won't be a drop in conversion. I am going to have to go to through this long block and start from scratch.

Nice car you got there.
