The calendar shows Easter is the last weekend Sunday the 30th, might not be good.

I'm open all other days. Let's see who can host and fit thier schedule. Kelty 360 was offering his Renton Area location..

Dr. Where do we order this seal kit? Is this also the gasket kit?

PNW people lets chime in here and get this planned.

Posted by: pete-stevers Jan 18 2014, 11:47 AM

count me in as a spectator biggrin.gif

Posted by: KELTY360 Jan 18 2014, 11:52 AM

My last conversation with Mark (Mr.242) had Dave down at Triad hosting in his shop. Mark was kind of driving the tranny clinic bus at that point so lets wait to hear from him.

Hey Steve bye1.gif did you ever get your fire damage sorted out?

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 18 2014, 12:28 PM

pattison lake (triad location) is a long way from everywhere. takes me 45 minutes to get there from my house.

Posted by: aircooledtechguy Jan 18 2014, 12:34 PM

I'd be in as a spectator fo'sho'. I'm really good a poking fun, getting in the way and being a general menace. shades.gif

I'll bring my set of trans tools along and I'll help in any way I can. That includes beer drinking, grilling and whatever is needed. . . beerchug.gif shades.gif

I sure hope it's not the weekend of March 1st/2nd as I'll be in Hawaii. . . The rest of the month is clear for me.

Posted by: Daiberl Jan 18 2014, 12:39 PM

So far March looks very good besides the first weekend, will be on a business trip until 3/1. I might bring a transmission I have for the LE and the one from my -6 also so if someone wants to participate but needs a transmission to work on let me know smile.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 18 2014, 12:47 PM

Probably not going to be early March as I have Hershey at end of April. Not good to schedule things too close = burn out.

Posted by: John1180 Jan 18 2014, 02:08 PM

Interested pending final date and location.( Renton would be perfect!)

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 18 2014, 03:18 PM

Ah, Renton. I fell in love with twins (girls) from Renton, once. Bitter sweet memories.

Posted by: audio_file Jan 18 2014, 05:45 PM

Count me in as a builder. I gots a 1st gear that likes to pop out at takeoff, and a 2nd gear that likes to grind when downshifting from any speed but near-zero. A good candidate?

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 18 2014, 05:58 PM

Yes, when? Where? Still in the air.

Posted by: AfricanHijinx Jan 18 2014, 07:56 PM

I will be out of town the first week in March. I am definitely, I have a side shift that was given to me and I don't know the state of it so this would be a great time to figure it out.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 18 2014, 10:03 PM

Not going to be first weekend. So, which of the others? Where? It may have to be moved to June or later if I can not pin down a date.

Posted by: NORD Jan 18 2014, 10:34 PM

not June. My motor is coming out soon for new heads so that would be perfect in March.

Did you guys know that Nate has a casino across from his place and a tax free chevron gas station! smokes and booze. Anacortes is a lot closer to me also. driving.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 18 2014, 10:36 PM

As long as I have a ride to and from the airport, I am open to any useful venue.

Posted by: PanelBilly Jan 19 2014, 12:21 PM

Easter is the only weekend that I'm out too. I've been asking around to see if we can use a shop in renton, but haven't had any luck yet

Posted by: jsaum Jan 19 2014, 02:13 PM

I'm in I need to crack open the last one I did at the clinic and figure out why it won't stay in fourth gear.

Posted by: aircooledtechguy Jan 19 2014, 02:45 PM

It sounds like Mark (Mr.242) and Dave at Triad were planning this, so I don't want to step on any toes with an offer to host at this point. Lets hear from them first.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 19 2014, 02:46 PM

If there is ever a prob with one of the rebuilds, contact me. I havent been in the PNW for a while, this been a problem for that long? You are welcome to show up and I will tear into it for you, no charge of course. Also, you can always ship it to me, same deal.

They've got about the space of a double garage to play with, so I guess it'd depend on how many you're expecting... Nate's place is huge of course! Let's see what Dave @ Triad says!!

Posted by: cary Jan 19 2014, 11:14 PM

Mr.242 contacted me last fall about doing a clinic at my place in Forest Grove. Never heard back from him ...............

I can open up 1000 to 1500 sq. ft. if need be.
Not real handy for the folks in Seattle.
But just a thought.

Could do dinner at the Grand Lodge ..........

KELTY, you offered last time we brought this up, as well. Sorry, I forgot. I PM you and we can talk.

I am looking at the last weekend in March. Does this work for everyone? If so, I will submit request tomorrow.

Posted by: moldygreg Jan 20 2014, 09:55 PM

Just RSVPing here. Dates should be fine. Western WA preferred if possible. My son Miles will also attend barring school soccer commitments.

I've been away... sorry fellas. I was sniffing around for a place in the PNW for another Tranny Build and was trying to find a place that would host the numbers.

I'm not against Nate, Kelty, or Triad Dave places. It all depends on who and how many appear.

I'm out for March 3-21 for a major training project. The 22nd is a possibility; however, I'm sure I will be worthless. (more than normal)

I thought the 29th weekend, till I read the posts and see that it's Easter Weekend. That will get many of us in trouble.

I'm happy with my Tranny build at the moment; but do have an extra side shift I scored that could use a build. So I would possibly drain $300 too.

Dr. Evil is welcome to crash at my house and would love to catch up. Just need to set up a date! How many in the Evil Clan are making the trip?

Yes Thanks I just figured it was easier to wait knowing you would get back out here! This way is more fun I had a blast at the last one!

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 21 2014, 07:32 AM

the location is dependent on the number of attendees. if the turnout is anything like the one at mike's SPACE will be needed. there were 6 or 7 big tables? more?, and it was packed.

looking at a calendar the weekend of 4/20 is easter, so that prob wouldn't work. 4/12 might work as it's a free pass not to attend palm sunday services (for those who usually HAVE to). one of the first 3 weekends in may? after that we're into memorial day, graduations, vacations, weddings and the rest of the summer festivities. i think 500 sq ft (CLEAR, OPEN space), at a minimum, is required.

mike, are you solo for this clinic or will noel and the baby be coming along?

Why do people keep posting about April? This is MARCH we are shooting for.

Posted by: bulitt Jan 21 2014, 09:14 AM

I guess April is out then confused24.gif

Posted by: NORD Jan 21 2014, 10:27 AM

I could host at my house. I've got 1,200 sq ft that can be worked into 7-9 work stations and more could be added but it would get crowded then. I have a press but parts washer would have to be in a pan. There is plenty of parking. Any one staying the night, bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

The bad for some; I live 6 miles North of Bellingham nine miles South of the boarder. Airport, Bellingham International is 20 minutes away. Mike see if you can get direct flight. Or somebody can bring you up from Seattle.

Any weekend is OK.

i might be interested.how are people getting their transmissions there.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 21 2014, 11:44 AM

Yes, April is out. Hershey is that month and I already have that weekend booked away from family. I dont like to spend too much time away from wife and 1yo, I only see him 15min in the morning on days I work....and I work a lot.

If March falls through, then June is the next possible. I am trying to get to Australia in May, so that is out for now.

For space, each person needs a 2'x2' space, best with room under it. You do not need to spread your parts over a vast expanse.

Transmissions are brought by the participants. If you are planning on flying up, you would have to ship it. At that cost, unless you are very interested in the clinic experience, you would be dollars ahead shipping it to me and having me rebuild it.

Posted by: KELTY360 Jan 21 2014, 01:02 PM

I hesitate to commit right now because of a work situation that should be resolved in the next couple of days. I have approximately 2+ bays in my shop so I don't think space would be a problem. I also have room for people to camp if they want. My weekends in March are pretty open so I'm flexible there. The only thing holding me back is the work thing, so if you can wait for that to be cleared up I can let you know. Otherwise, I'm out.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 21 2014, 01:08 PM

Lets tentative at Marc's, with expectation that this can change. The last weekend in March is what I am going to request off. I will submit that request now and we can suss out the location in the coming days.

Submission is in for last weekend, 29-30, of March. This is the date we will plan for.

Now, are there locations that will not work for some people? Can we get a tentative list so that I can see if I can afford to come out??

Posted by: NORD Jan 24 2014, 10:16 AM

I'm in for box rebuild and the full show. Let me know where?

The 30th is Easter. Hope that doesn't mess up people's weekend schedule.

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 24 2014, 11:45 AM

in. i plan on doing 2 boxes and bringing a legacy wagon full of cores. if marc has enough room he's located centrally so most folks will be within an hour's drive. if the clinic should be held north of seattle i'll just get a room for the night.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 24 2014, 11:55 AM

Since when is Easter in March???

Posted by: NORD Jan 24 2014, 12:31 PM

I have a gear head calendar so it could be wrong? It has something to do with moon cycles and Good Friday. Seattle will be OK. driving.gif

Posted by: KELTY360 Jan 24 2014, 12:36 PM

My 2014 calendar shows Easter as April 20.

Hey Nord, you do realize you need to get a new calendar every year, right? poke.gif

Posted by: Daiberl Jan 24 2014, 02:42 PM

I'm in with one transmission.

Posted by: bradtho Jan 24 2014, 03:06 PM

If Juergen or Kevin (or anyone else) have a second box, I'd be happy to take that on and pitch in some money. I don't think I want to tempt fate opening mine up when I really don't have any complaints!

Posted by: NORD Jan 24 2014, 05:07 PM

Again I was wrong about Easter. Sorry to everyone that changed thier plans.

I do have a BMW PRO 3 calendar in the kitchen and it says that the BMW group will be seeing Easter on the 30th of March. Do I need to post a picture? Again Sorry.

Back to the Tranny Clinic. All chime in if your box needs fleshend up.

Posted by: PanelBilly Jan 24 2014, 05:53 PM

I'm in at either location. I'd prefer Marc's house because it's so much closer to home.

Posted by: rdauenhauer Jan 24 2014, 06:17 PM

Brad if you want to pay & play I have a few box's that I can provide.
I no longer need the learn'in but definitely want to hang, drink & pass gas. smile.gif

I'm a CSOB biggrin.gif I will try to pull the transmission from the -6 before the clinic takes place (leaks and just to check everything "while I'm in there"), and I have one which I need rebuild for the LE! Happy to cover your attendance if you want to work on one of mine.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 25 2014, 11:40 AM

Hey Rich, ya I still collect those.

Posted by: bradtho Jan 27 2014, 12:12 AM

Not sure how many attendees the good doctor needs to make the trip, but I'm in with either a box from Kevin or Juergen.

Let's make this happen!

Posted by: sportlicherFahrer Jan 27 2014, 08:13 PM

Count me in as well. I have one on the floor that should be fixable, one F'd core that I'm ok with letting parts out of, and one in the car that needs freshening up when I do my engine work.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 27 2014, 10:06 PM

I'll put you on the tentative list. I wont take any $$ until I have the a-ok from work on the dates.

I'm in. For certain.

Posted by: Mr.242 Jan 29 2014, 10:57 PM

I can get days off work once we know that Dr.Evil is coming. I'll be his driver. I've got a junky extra tranny I can open up and check for decent parts.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 29 2014, 11:12 PM

The dates are posted, I need a location now smile.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 30 2014, 08:45 AM

I need to list all the possibilities and we can vote/see about availability:
- Triad shop
- KELTY
- NORD

There were more. What do y'all think?

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 30 2014, 08:56 AM

your party, pick the spot. i think a more central puget sound location might help with attendance. again, your call. figure it out.

Posted by: NORD Jan 30 2014, 11:02 AM

I agree with Kevin that Puget Sound area would be best for most but I will host if need be. I'm 100 miles North of Seattle. I have alot of room. driving.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 30 2014, 01:34 PM

Man, I dont know the terrain up there. Y'all say Puget Sound area. OK, who is there???

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 30 2014, 01:54 PM

the 'sound' covers the triad shop to nord's. prob 170 miles. if marc is game it's about mid point. which is about perfect. except for nord and nate. nord's place is just aboot as close to canada as it gets.

start an "OFFICIAL" sign up thread? should save a ton of time and scrolling.

Posted by: Dr Evil Feb 1 2014, 01:26 PM

I think we have enough. I am actually not starting a sign up thread because it will take twice as much work for me to do that and then take money. When I am ready for taking tuition, I will start that thread. I need to have confirmed time off, and make sure I have enough spare parts to cover everyone after this coming clinic in VA.

Posted by: Dr Evil Feb 13 2014, 11:08 PM

Alright folks, it has come to my attention that this clinic will have to be postponed. Way too much shit at home going on, my stock of parts are too far depleted for me to feel comfortable having all of your boxes open and needing parts, and I am running myself ragged with my day job-biz-side projects. This will happen, I promise, but I need to move it back. May is supposed to be my Australia clinic, but that has been silent for too long and I need more lead up and planning. So, perhaps May will be the next possibility. I think every other month is the soonest I can do clinics. Otherwise I am getting burnt out and I am still doing builds and stuff in between that need attention and parts.

I am always looking for cores and love to trade work for them, or cash.

I will update the first post.

Hey Doc I just sent you a PM for a request.

Posted by: Dr Evil May 25 2014, 09:47 AM

Alright, first post edited with details. August??

Posted by: Mr.242 May 25 2014, 10:04 AM

My August, there are 5 weekends in the month.
1st: SeaFair
2nd: Family B-day (16th b-day party)
3rd: Take kids off to College
4th: Open
5th: Open

Posted by: PanelBilly May 25 2014, 10:06 AM

Does anybody care about Seafair anymore?

Posted by: Mr.242 May 25 2014, 10:10 AM

I do! I get about 18 hours of OT $$$$. I have to work the drunk bus for the DUI boaters trying to kill each other on the water.

So I am out. Doesn't mean others would join in or create a function somewhere. I would like to do my dad's transmission for him. So if I can join it would be great.

Posted by: Dr Evil May 25 2014, 10:34 AM

I am cool with the 4th and 5th weekend. Right now, things are open.

Posted by: r3dplanet May 25 2014, 10:51 AM

I'm in. Any day. Anywhere.

Posted by: NORD May 25 2014, 01:15 PM

4th or 5th weekend of August works for me. Marc hosting?

Posted by: rhodyguy May 25 2014, 01:34 PM

SeaFair... rolleyes.gif best place to watch the races is on your couch. it's a long freekin' day. did the log boom one year aboard the Victory5. bonus points for them being far, far away from 405. the races are held on sunday yes?

edit: fun day for you mark. a day wrangling a bunch of inebriates. couldn't pay me enough.

Posted by: PanelBilly May 25 2014, 02:03 PM

My tranny is done already, so unless something changes, I'll just be there to drink and bullshit. Maybe my engine will be done by then

Posted by: JRust May 25 2014, 06:22 PM

I may show as a spectator. I can bring a core or 2 if needed. We'll see when it get's closer. I might build a box too idea.gif . I don't have any plans that would need a 901 for. Trying to quit screwing around with all the 914's. I'm down to 3 & that is my new cap. So unless I get rid of another one. I can't buy one evilgrin.gif

I have not contacted Kelty about this date, yet. Wanted to get it more nailed down. So, the last weekends in Aug is where we are. Dave at Triad has also kindly offered his lake front shop as alternate in case Marc is unable. We should be good. I have not heard back on the dates from Dave yet.

Any paying peoples??? Once I get the location set, I will start taking peoples money smile.gif

Crap....Dave's place may be the one, then. I contact him. However, I am not seeing a lot of interest at this time. I will give it a few days and if it does not pick up I will just bump it down the list and try doing a clinic at a different location. I know there is interest in one in the Rochester, NY area and that one I can drive to/from.

I will be rebuilding a box and have 1 1/2 boxs for parts if anybody needs parts.

Also have a early intermediate plate for 6 linkage if anyone needs one and a rear trans cover without broken mounts. If your box is broken let me know.

Posted by: Dr Evil May 26 2014, 09:54 AM

I'll contact you about cores wink.gif

We have our cabin in Shelton we can use. good view and only catch would be for me to ask my father in-law to move some cars around. He has his stash in there and we'd have room. We also have a car port to work under. August has the potential to be extremely warm.

If there is an AX that weekend we could trash them Saturday and rebuild on Sunday. I'll check AX schedule.

Posted by: Dr Evil May 26 2014, 12:18 PM

I would not recommend trying to do it in one day. You may end up screwed. I plan for two days, Sat-Sun so that I have Sun to finish up any stragglers or issues.

Juergen, you still looking to do 2 boxes? I should be available still and would be happy to kick in some money to help cover one.

I'm not going to be able to commit to coming in August. sad.gif If I can make it, I woun't know until the day before. I would be interested in rebuilding a box. The final (5th) weekend of August would work for me. It is probably worth pointing out that that is also Labor Day weekend.

Brad, still need two boxes done so if you can cover the labor I bring the transmission and will cover the clinic.

At this point it looks like I will be in. I have 2 cores and one good one. Will more than likely be upgrading my intermediate and diff.... Once we are done, I dont want to have two cores left. Just one good one to drive with. So if anybody else is looking for one to play with or hold on to.....

Posted by: Dr Evil May 27 2014, 11:59 AM

I will buy your core. It is how I am able to pay for this clinic, buying and selling parts.

If anyone has spare cores, let me know, please. I am coming out specifically for the clinic and to get cores to harvest and ship back.

Does Labor Day weekend matter to anyone? I would want to be at a clinic if I was not the one doing it smile.gif

I would like to solidify a date soon. I will put my request in and have that squared. I also need to solidify a location but have not had a response to my emails to Dave at Triad for a few days. It has been a holiday weekend, though, so I will wait until the end of the week to make a decision. So far we have a great location at Mark's (mr242) beach house (been there, this would work), a big shop with all the amenities 100mi north of Seattle, Dave at Tirad's shop. Did I miss any???

I believe that is south of Seattle. The house is by a lake too unless they have another one I don't know about evilgrin.gif . Great spot for it if a little off the beaten path

Posted by: rhodyguy May 28 2014, 09:39 AM

the shelton location is prob 1 hour 15 minutes, maybe 2 from seattle proper. depending where the lake is located. on the olympia side or north of? i'm still in for the clinic. looks like there are a lot of cores around here. you might be shocked.

Posted by: NORD May 28 2014, 09:52 AM

I told Mike that we could have it in my garage also, that is the place 100 miles North of Seattle. 1600 sq ft, could put in 9 - 11 work spaces. Maybe the Canadians would come down for it here. Big 2 acre yard, 3 bathes and a place everyone could crash for the night. Have a press and 2 pans for parts washing. smash.gif

So, I am liking the last weekend (Labor Day). I will firm that up now. However, the location is looking like between Mark's house on the sound (been there, loved it), and NORDs automotive Garage Majal. Would everyone be willing to drive up to NORDS? I know Marks and it offers some nice amenities and privacy close to the city wink.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Jun 1 2014, 02:28 PM

Alright, I did update the title to say Canada....lets see if we can lure them across the boarder smile.gif

Is there anyone where for which NORDS place is too far and you would not go? I need to know if I should forget this as a possibility.

Consequently, I am still planning on snatching a hoard of boxes from Dave at Triad (whenever I hear back from him) and taking them to the location where the clinic will be the day before so I can part them before the clinic. Then, I will take the day after the clinic and return the rental van and drop off the carcasses at the scrap yard.

Things that can help me out greatly, if you can; a van (and maybe a driver) to transport the transmissions (some compensation offered as this saves me $$ for the rental), and someone to offer to take the core parts not used to the scrapper (you can keep them, or you can scrap them and keep the $$). This saves me time on the ground. If I can avoid being out there more than 4 days total this will make my day job suck less (they will lump my 12hr shifts together to make time for me to be off and it sucks), and will allow for less time away from my family (makes wife and boy happy).

Let me know if you can help a brother out.

Please also see note on getting intermediate plate bearings. If you can, do so. It will be the best thing in the long run. Contact me if you want some and I will try to locate some at a discount. More people = less $$ per person.

I might maybe able to help with that. I was thinking of coming up to observe and help with any beer that needs to be disposed of. beer3.gif I can drive my truck up from Portland. Thanks for the offer. So far, Dave at Triad had not been answering my emails any longer. I hope he is ok and just busy. Looking like I may not be buying his cores. I am interested in cores, still. With Mark being near and plugged in, this helps out, too. I'll let you all know as time approaches. All the students need to know is to pay and show up smile.gif I always enjoy the PNW clinics.

the proposed location is near shelton wa. about 2 hours from p-land with good traffic. better than a 5 hour hour run to near the b.c. border. that 5 hours is timing the commute perfectly too. after 3pm and it's a traffic nightmare from olympia to well past everett.

Start an "official attendee" thread. Tickets aren't going to be any cheaper at the end of July. If available they'll be at a premium. Lots-o-shite starts in august. By the way, I'm in.....

Posted by: Dr Evil Jun 21 2014, 01:13 PM

I update the first post of this thread with every iteration. It seems superfluous and cluttering to have another thread for just attendance.....but I will try it. WTF confused24.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Jun 25 2014, 08:51 AM

Well, starting a separate thread has generated exactly 0 responses so I am posting here as it will auto reply to the folks subscribed (if they have the feature set up).

For those of you paying attention, here is an amazing offer that I highly suggest you take advantage of. I have the following kit:

999-110-012-01 Pinion shaft bearing, diff side, retail = $551.75
999-052-016-0A Pinion shaft intermediate plate bearing, retail = $220.25
999-053-025-00 Input shaft bearing, intermediate plate, retail = $249.25
999-110-008-00 Main shaft bearing, diff side, retail = $161.25

Total retail = $1182.50

My price for all 4 is $375!!!!

I am ordering the first 4 kits - 1 for me, 1 for a customers build in Norway, and 2 are available for sale with preference to the clinic attendees. I may be able to get more, but I can not afford to order them before they are sold.

As for the clinic, I am not buying my ticket until I have funds in had to do so. So far, no money has arrived (to my knowledge). I am out of town so if mailed in then I will not know until my wife tells me. I will update this info in the first post as well. All new and relevant info can be found there always, with date of update.

Posted by: audio_file Jun 25 2014, 10:23 AM

Well, i WAS about to mail you a check for the attendance fee, but now I'll just have it made out for 675, lol.

I'll take one of the two pkgs you have available.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but, Doc, are you still planning on a trip downunder anytime soon?

Posted by: Dr Evil Jul 6 2014, 06:57 AM

Soon, no. Life has taken a turn here with me moving 4 hours away and taking a new job in the next couple of months. The main reason I can not give a more explicit date is because I am waiting for all of the back ground checking for my new job to be done, then I get the actual contract, then I give my 3mo notice at my current, blood sucking company. Right now I am projected to start Oct 13 and I need to talk to my new office manager about getting time off to go to Oz. Oz will happen. I have been preparing and stocking up for it for months. Either it didnt work for me one month, or for the other people another. Another consideration is that in my current employ I am just paying my bills so I can not take on any risk of debt for an Oz trip. The new job will pay much more and remove this factor.

Please see first post for most updated things. Address added, list updated, bearings out for now. I will try to get more bearing sets for those interested, but be warned that the price on them just went up. Still a bargain, but not a steal....I dont know the price yet.

Posted by: rhodyguy Jul 14 2014, 11:02 AM

last call for the gasket sets. if you want new pivot clips and ball cup bushings included in the purchase let me know.

Posted by: nine9three Jul 15 2014, 03:53 PM

I'm in for Sunday and can be added to the list. Just hope one of the bearing kits is still available.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jul 15 2014, 05:50 PM

Bearing kits are currently sold out. I am working on getting 5 more. Not sure of price as it will be more.

Posted by: Dr Evil Jul 15 2014, 06:33 PM

Just got word that 5 more kits should be no problem by mid Aug. Still waiting on price....I can take reserve funds if you like. PM if interested.

Posted by: rhodyguy Aug 1 2014, 10:06 AM

alright…following parts ordered. free shipping! bring cash or your checkbook to the clinic.

8 gasket sets. $34.50 each
3 throwout arm pivot bushings. $3.00 each
3 throwout arm pivot clip/retainers. $8.50 each
6 throwout bearing support bushings (2 per trans). $5.00 each

i should have them in hand next week.

k

edit: btw. all of the parts listed above are spoken for. i wouldn't wait to order the stuff you'll need at the last minute. hank914, nord, me, james, audio file, jurgen, and young jim young. you guys are all in. 1 extra for jett if he wants it. could you check for me billy?

Posted by: PanelBilly Aug 1 2014, 11:55 AM

I'm planning to be there and I can help clean parts. I get credit for enlisting Jett! I can bring my tranny if anyone wants to see how it looks when second gear is cut off so a new one can be welded on. Unless my engine is done and in that case it will be in the car!

Posted by: Dr Evil Aug 2 2014, 08:00 AM

Hey folks, I am not hearing back from my bearing supplier. I have found the next best deal at SierraMadre for the large intermediate plate bearing - $112. Smoking deal. If you are interested. The other bearing in the intermediate plate I can not find for under $235 :/

Posted by: Dr Evil Aug 3 2014, 05:38 PM

Ok, I heard from my supplier for the bearings. The price went up $150 more for the kits, still a smoking deal. However, I need to put my order in by Tues and after that it will be a while before I get more. I am only selling these to people at clinics and to customers that I am building boxes for.

Speak up now or lose out!

Thanks for the bearings, they are a great deal given other prices.

PanelBilly -- thanks for the lead on this... Saving me a fortune, getting a quality rebuild and most of all learning how the transmission works!

Posted by: offwatch Aug 5 2014, 08:54 PM

I am very interested in attending the transmission clinic I have both a 914 and a 912. I am not ready to pull the transmission of either at this time but very interested in learning how to tear into one and diagnose and repair problems. What are my options?

Posted by: Dr Evil Aug 5 2014, 09:06 PM

Without a transmission, you can be a spectator for free. Otherwise, pull one or both, or get a core and rebuild it there.

Alright, I am still trying to un-fuck my data sheet that was lost when my computer rebooted (never happened before to excell). So, I also have confusion as screen names dont match real names and I have duplicates on my list, probably.

First, who is still owed a bearing set that paid for it?
- Jet you have two less the big bearings, that one I know.
- Blair, 912 from CA has a set

That should be it.

Second, who the hell is coming? Here is my list:

Rhodyguy - got bearings
NORD (RIP, sad.gif ) - If I can get a hold of family to refund, I will and should have his bearing set for nine9three.
Jurgen - paid last time and couldnt go, covered this time
Bradtho - Jurgen's beyotch wink.gif
Hank914 - paid, got bearings
Mark - Covered, host
Jet - Darren and Wife
Blair - not on this site
??? - gonna have to look up this one, no name recorded but paid
Marcus - I know who you are
Tom(nine9three) - Have you paid for the clinic? Date so I can enter it into my sheet?
J. Young - check arrived today, who are you???

Anyone missing??? PM me so I can get my stuff straight.

Third, may of you have extra cores. Figure that one extra core should be sufficient to supply your rebuild transmission with parts. If you have other spare cores, I am interested. PM me to let me know what you have. With all the spare cores, looks like I may lose my ass on this as far as parts sales....such is life. I need to do more East clinics where the cores tend to be scarce wink.gif

Posted by: Dr Evil Aug 18 2014, 08:16 PM

Also, things that can help you out:

- Table. Does not need to be huge. A 2'x2' space is sufficient for the whole build. Bring to share is nice.

- Cordless impact driver. This will expedite diassembly and reassembly. I will bring mine, but more is better.

- Hammers and punches.

- You will only need the following sockets; 10, 13, 14, 19. You can bring, but I will have, deep 30mm.

- Large snap ring pliers are nice. If you cant find, I will supply one or two sets. Not much of an issue, but it is a rate limiting step.

- Gloves, white rags (painters rags) not the red ones that leave red crap in and on everything.

- Brake cleaner. One can can do a whole transmission if you do not get crazy.

- Drain it before the clinic. If not, I will have to throw you in the sound!

I think that is it. Ask questions so I can clarify anything smile.gif

Lodging: I know this location might be a tad out of the way, but it's a place.
There is the Little Creek Casino that isn't too far away and cheaper rates inside Shelton (Motel 6 and such).

There is some limited tent space on the property, yet it's not to level. We've got a shower in the house and those who need to clean up should bring bring their own shower supplies.

LUNCH: I'll have access to a grill and we can do up some simple burgers, dogs, or brats. I'm going to be building a tranny so I'm not going to be able to BBQ up things. If enough interest, I'll accept $$ donations. Otherwise bring your own lunch. I'll also try to fill a cooler with ice so one can deposit their beverage of choice to chill.

Any other inquiries: shoot me a text or call (509)553-9246 on my personal cell or PM me here.

Is it getting too late to do the trans clinic?

I am seriously thinking about pulling the tranny on the 914 and heading up for the clinic, the only problem on the tranny is the 1st and 2nd gear syncro's are worn. I also have a 1968 912 that also has the same problem and would like to learn from the 914 trans.

If too late I would like to be a spectator and help out also interested in purchasing a DVD.

But I may pop by and harass some old faces earlier in the day. Been a while since I've been on the ferry, so it may be a good excuse to cruise down Whidbey Island, pop across the water to Port Townsend, then back across to Edmonds.

off watch (real name?). i'll bring the set with me. bringing them all actually.
i also have an extra throw out arm pivot clip, throw out arm ball cup bushing, and the 2 plastic retaining pieces for the throw out bearing itself. all in a little over $50. we'll settle up at the clinic.

I drained my tail shifter completely and scrubbed it clean as a whistle. And I also pulled off the tail cone and took out the gears. Bringing everything with me. I got a can of break cleaner also.

I'll be there Saturday am, what time does it start?

Also, when should we expect it to wrap up?

Did any previous clinics finish in one very long day, or do they all go two days?

And I was not able to come up with a table. Should I look for a folding one from a local Costco?

Thanks!

What ever you do, do not remove the gasket from between the case and the intermediate plate. I will need this to set your pinion depth.

If anyone has their stack out, you might as well check your pinion teeth to see if they are roached. I am counting on the cores I get there to cover that problem.

I just boxed up enough dog teeth, bands, sliders, and bearings to cover everyone. Pretty much my whole supply. I hate mailing stuff, but it is about 80# in 3 boxes. Gotta love the flat rate. Even with insurance it was only $90 to ship it all which is less than the baggage fee would have been. Boxes will go out tomorrow and are scheduled to be delivered Wed. I will have only 3 tools in my checked bag. Keeping it light and simple this time.

I wont be able to relax until the boxes get there dry.gif I had to use much of that stuff up until later today and now I can not do any more work until I get back and my stuff arrives back to the house.

Posted by: Dr Evil Aug 24 2014, 10:06 PM

Oh ya, start around 9am and I go until we stop. This is often midnight to 2am. Some get stuff done in one day. If you want stuff done in one day it would be best if you let me do most of the work. I can assemble a box from cleaned parts in about 3min. The cleaning is the part that takes the time.

Mark, do we have a vice handy? That would help immensely, but if not we will make do.

Posted by: rjames Aug 24 2014, 11:39 PM

Just to let everyone know, I'll be crashing the party on Sunday as the Good Doctor was kind enough to offer his services to perform some warranty work on a transmission he rebuilt for me last year. I made sure it was ok with him and that I wouldn't be interrupting the instruction.

Looking forward to saying hi to everyone.

Hi Mike,
I will definitely be attending (cash in hand). Are you serious about the finish time being between midnight and 2 AM? Is that for people that need to finish in 1 day?

Is there any reason I shouldn't bring my impact wrench for dis-assembly?

I'm up for chipping in for food and will eat practically anything (except slimy bivalves).

I'll also bring beer.

I'm listed in the first post of the thread. My ability to participate was sketchy (had just lost a pet when money was due). I am bringing 1 or 2 spare transmissions (for a total of 2 or 3) and a gasket kit.

Speaking of gaskets, because the transmissions I usually rebuild go into a race car, I use Ultra Black sealant instead of gaskets. Is that a viable option on these transaxles?

Gig Harbor is an hour from Shelton

blink.gif Uh, that is a question that really should have been answered before now. We are working in a garage. No floor to crash on. Hi, I'm new here and was wondering if I could crash the clinic as an observer/helper. I live in Port Orchard and could bring 2 more 3/8 impacts with extra batteries, big snap ring pliers and some kind of bench with a vice if necessary. Plus torque wrenches and a small hydraulic press. Please! Save me from the Blackberry Festival!
I have been a mechanic for over 30 years, so hopefully more help than hindrance. Looking forward to taking some notes and learning the tricks.

I am doing Coug game tomorrow evening with family. Dr. Evil and I will head down Friday am. Prep. Tear down a couple scrap trannies. Do some crabbing (I really want to give the Dr. His first crabs at a tranny clinic!!)

Between Marks amazing hosting / location, Billy's food and Dr. Evils (Mike) skill, we left with new friends and a pair of fresh transmission.

Btw. Dr. Evil demonstrated great bedside manner, although he almost fainted when Ana dropped a bolt into the freshly rebuilt trans smile.gif

Oops. I forgot to thank Mark and his inlaws! What a great shop place to gather.

Great clinic, got to meet a lot of new people, and learned a lot. Thanks Mike for your amazing knowledge of these transmissions and your ability to go all day long.

Thank you Mark and your inlaws for the great spot to host the clinic.

Just got the transmission back into the car and took it out for a quick test run......

WOW, Amazing, it drives like a new car. I have never had the first gear syncro before and second gear syncro was hit or miss but on the short drive every gear was smooth. Thank you Dr. Evil. driving.gif

built and and motorvating the next day? wow! quick work! i opted to start with the cleanest box i had. It was a long weekend. Had a interesting dry.gif experience sat night. Got home, showered up (11:30 pm), my heart was racing, ears were ringing and I felt like I had just got out of bed. WTF.gif then I remembered a MEK experience I had at a job long ago. I was overloaded on fumes and chemicals. Finally came down about 1:30am. Then got up at 6:15 to drive down on Sunday.

Glad my truck is a F-350. Had 15 cores that were striped for the good Drevil! I'll off load this Tuesday. Loaded down with stromberg.gif

Anyone have any weird requests for parts off this pile (drevil took the good tid bits).
Perhaps music gears for welding a makeshift trophy or gag gift. Let me know ASAP!

A huge thanks to Mark and his family for providing a shop and making us welcome.

Also, a huge thanks to Dr. Evil for sharing his knowledge and for being an excellent teacher.

I am very glad I was able to attend this clinic. I expected to meet some great people (because car nuts) and I wasn't disappointed. What a fun group of friendly people.

Cheers!

I was meaning to come by and spectate and bring Panel Billy his shift rod and new bushing and see what the Evil one thought of the bushing. Got involved with a leaking roof and couldn't get there.

Sorry I couldn't make it.
Looked like fun was had by all.
I was on the fence, but the prospect of suffering the good Doc's noxious ass fumes again helped make up my mind icon8.gif barf.gif

Hey Dr. Evil. Notice who is post #222 in this thread.

Do we need to plan to go out there and clean up your father in law's garage floor?

Posted by: Mr.242 Sep 2 2014, 09:56 PM

Nope. We did a pretty decent job of cleaning. Left our damage deposit and he's going to help us by taking all the garbage to the dump. It went very well.

Billy you were the best for the brats! Did you get paid by those who ate?

In total, I bought 15 cores and due to the kindness of a few people I was able to harvest all the parts from them.
