The realism isn't really there but is is cool to be able to drive a 914 in the winter.(even if it is a my PC) IPB Image
I'll have fun with it though and so will my kids! IPB Image

Posted by: tracks914 Jan 4 2005, 08:39 PM

It sells for about $20 in Staples Business Depot, but I hear you can get it online from Kazza or some other software download sites for cheap! IPB Image

Is that the demo?

I love NFSPU.
last weekend I bought a logitech formula force GP steering wheel and pedals, way much gooder than before. That's the one with force feedback that kinda seems real.

In the evolution mode i'm up to over $1 million and I'm driving the 996 TT. Yep, I'm addicted.
oops, I hope that wasn't bad advice IPB Image

I'm stuck at factory driver, they want me to do a 360 and then slalom on the skidpad and the darned thing won't recognize the 360. I've gotten all the way to licence factory driver but now I'm stuck. I think i need a cheat code or something.

Posted by: SLITS Jan 4 2005, 09:06 PM

Looks like it.....I didn't check it out...have owned NFS-PU for many years.

Posted by: tracks914 Jan 4 2005, 09:17 PM

I'm using a old thrustmaster steering wheel but just having a blast.
Just tried out the boxster and it sounds nice. IPB Image

Sammy,
I got stuck like that once. It turned out, the direction of the 360 was important too. You must turn in the direction of the arrow.

I bought two NFS games, one porsche unleashed. What controller is best to use with it? I can't seem to find any reference material on steering wheel contollers and such.

I've been happy with Microsoft's wheel and pedal set up.

based on other games i played this one seems the most real. I played NFS Underground and it was a joke. for being a 4 year old game its alot better then the stuff that just came out. Been a while since i played, but i did finish the factory driver portion. I havn't played that many games though. I do like the fact that if you lift on the throttle in a 356 then your back end starts to go.

Posted by: Sammy Jan 4 2005, 10:52 PM

I just turned 2:40 at Normandie, thats about 5 seconds better than the track record!
Does it matter that I was driving the GT-1 race car? IPB Image

I just finished evolution. gave up on the factory driver for a while, still stuck at chief driver.

Posted by: Sammy Jan 4 2005, 10:55 PM

BTW I just found out that if you buy a used car and then hit general repair the car will get fixed and you don't have to pay for it. Then you sell it, buy another used car, repeat. You can really get rich doing that. Better than those 2 am info-mercials.

I have enjoyed this game for years.

It's great fun.

I usally drive my 914 2.0
I beat everyone, on every track, on expert. IPB Image
Does that make me someone?

Didn't think so.

I'm a fan of the good ol keyboard controls. I made it through all the license levels with that, works for me. But if anyone knows a wheel that really does feel correct, that'd be nice to know.

What game has an Autocross course? I can't stand video games but if it was AX then I just might get hooked. IPB Image My boy has a PS2 machine

Posted by: aveale Jan 5 2005, 10:02 AM

This game sucked up about 200 hours of my life.

I had to stop, but there it sure is nice to play a game that has your car!

I have a great excuse for allowing NFSPU to suck up way too much of my time:
My 6 year old son is addicted too and that is how we spend "quality time".
Yeah I know, but the wife buys it.

But I still need advice:
I'm trying to do the factory driver test that will qualify me as chief driver. It's the one where I have to do a 360 within the cones, then do some slalom work, then another 360. It's in a red carrera, looks like a 996.

I've gotten the 360s to register a couple of times but only by doing a 180 with the e-brake which basically makes the car come to a complete stop, then driving a half circle to complete the 360. Obviously that takes up waaay too much time.

How duz everyone else get this car to spin all the way around? I never had any trouble doing 360s in previous cars, maybe I should drive em like I drive at AX IPB Image

Posted by: JmuRiz Jan 5 2005, 11:43 AM

I can't remember but I think you have to do it like in a real car, get 'er going and pull the handbrake to get the spin going then do an opposite turn to keep it spinning. You know how the stunt drivers do it. It's been a long time since I've done those tests, but I think that's how I did it. I use keyboard though, your results may very.

Posted by: type11969 Jan 5 2005, 12:03 PM

I love NFSPU, I'm glad some are still playing it. I started playing again a couple of weeks ago, this game is still as good as it was 5 years ago when I bought it new! I've always stuck to the keyboard, it works pretty well. A driving wheel would be sweet though, but not really in my budget.

As for doing the 360, for a car that has a lot of grip, try getting the car unstable before you attempt it, like turning from side to side. That always worked for me.

Posted by: Demick Jan 5 2005, 12:18 PM

The 360's are a real pain with the high grip cars. There are a variety of ways to accomplish the 360, but here's how I do it (if I remember correctly). Chris had a good tip about getting the car unstable first. Swerve the opposite direction first and get the car to snap back in the spin direction that you want. I just use brakes and no e-brake. Once you've got the car sliding toward a 180 you need to let off the brakes and flip the car into neutral and turn the wheel to opposite lock. The car will roll backward and finish the 360 - but you must have backward momentum to finish it (just as if you were driving in reverse and simply turned the wheel - the front end would spin around very quickly). That's why you have to let off the brakes and put the car in neutral.

That's how I do it. And yes, it always takes a bunch of tries to get it right - especially if you've got to do more than one in a row.

Aaron, tell more about "racer". Who makes it, and what platform?

Thanks, B.

I wish they had the 914-6 in NFS. IPB Image

Posted by: Pnambic Jan 6 2005, 07:22 AM

FYI, I bought NFSPU for $9.99 at Sams Club about 3 or 4 years ago. Its really a great deal, though I bet it would be tons better if I had a decent steering wheel/pedal set up.

Posted by: Sammy Jan 6 2005, 10:51 AM

My logitech force feedback wheel and pedals cost $69 at fry's and I'm really happy with it.
The force feedback isn't quite real but it is better than not having it.
The wheel will actually vibrate when the steering on the car is damaged, reminds me to slow down and drive smooth instead of using the guard rails as bumpers.
