WCR 2010 (nice photo Randy)
Great ! Terrific scenery, clean air, and great roads to cruise on.
Ahh... man I'm probably going to miss this one, bummer. Have a baby due May 28th. Maybe I can jam up there for a day...
It was a great time the last time it was in Lake Tahoe. I would recommend going for sure.
Great choice! I'm in.
Good choice. May 15th!! My birthday. I'll be 35. Woo Hooo!!
Wow I've just got to get my car together somehow by then!
Any movement on this?
Great to hear. I just want to make sure I get the travel worked out before my schedule fills up.
whoa, I might actually have a 914 by then! *fingers crossed*
Great location. Looking forward to it.
The hotel has been decided on....there are deals on expedia right now, so book early and save money. See first post for updated info.
Jeff
Or...
You could get the group rate by calling directly and saying you're withe the Porsche Club West Coast Ramble event...
True, but we need to figure a way to keep lot C. I'll email her with a is up with these rates....
Please post the link to reserve. And, is the reservations cancelable without penalty ?
You just have to do a search for the dates on Expedia and the rates shown give you the deal.
Yes, you can cancel the Expedia deal up until May 13th without a penalty.
My room is booked... ...Is yours?
Jeff
Booked!
Booked. See you all next month.
Booked
Unfortunately, if we use this method of going through the cheapest route, ie: Expedia and Hotels.Com and such, as it gets closer to the date the price may go up.
I suggest you book now and get this price. You can always cancel up to 24 hours in advance I believe but do check the policy with whoever you book through...
Holy $hit!! 99 cent tacos!!
I booked my room on hotwire.com - same deal - $225 for 3 nights + resorts fees ($15 per day).
See ya all soon.
Steve
Signed up & Girlfriend approved. looking forward to a great trip. I think it would be cool to share Photos from past 914 events over dinner. I have photos from 25 years back I will be bringing mine even if its on a zip drive.
Firmed up activities so far:
Thursday evening - Welcome BBQ in the parking lot.
There might be beer but I can't officially confirm or deny that...
Friday morning - Gather in the parking lot then a drive around the Southeast corner of the lake through Incline Village and down scenic and curvy Mt. Rose Highway. This goes through the Mt. Rose peak area which is the highest peak in the Sierra-Nevada Mtn Range at 8900'. Those of you worried about your carbs don't. It peaks then quickly, drops to the valley floor over a distance of about 30 miles. You will be mostly off the gas. Once down on the valley floor, we will travel a few short stop light to stop light miles down historic South Virginia Street to Need 2 Speed where we will have a little friendly competition. For those who choose to participate, (cost is $45 each) and I encourage you to, we will have a 14 lap qualifier race followed by a 16 lap main event. Save your time sheet because there will be WCR awards based on Fastest Lap and main event winner. After the fun at the track, we will eat. Basically, and this is still fluid, we will be taking over a motorsport friendly restaurant called Joe's Diner. (Your tab is on you but probably less than $15 with Joe's prices). Then off for our afternoon drive back up the Northeast side and around the lake back to the hotel.
Be sure to pick up your cards at each of the stops because the whole day is a big poker run. Best hand wins!
Room booked can't wait. What about registration? John
Cool site for a gathering, I really enjoyed the last time there.
Dave
I haven't been on in a long time, but my local PCA chapter website said you guys were coming to our area for WCR this year.
I don't have a 914, but I am an "enthusiast", mind if I tag along? It'd be nice to drive through the mountains around here with like minded Porsche folk.
Just a couple of details to finish up, the schedule will be posted and registration will be open by Monday. So stay tuned to this channel.
REGISTRATION IS OPEN, lets get signed up
First post has been updated with schedule and registration information.
Im Registered....
Are You?
Registered. See you all next week.
I have a hotel room.
I have a house 30 minutes away!
Come see these fog light grills in person!
Attached image(s)
I would think they would be more interested in the TURBO.....
But those are cool too.
Everybody knows you can't turbo a foglight grill.
WAAAAIT! What do I call those things. They're non-foglight grills.
Everybody knows you can't turbo a non-foglight grill.
That was last year......now you can turbo anything, I'm putting a turbo on my weedwacker
If my POS is roadworthy, I'm coming up!!!!! I'll sleep in the car. (NOT)
Finally booked my room! My wife & I will be there. This time to Tahoe I'm not towing my 914 on my trailer . So shut your mouth Rob . Probably won't make the BBQ thursday night.
So, Friday is locked in...
We gather at 0800 and get a card (poker). Get in the cars by 0830 and drive counterclockwise around the Southeast corner of the lake to Incline Village and on to Mt. Rose Highway. Mt. Rose Hwy boasts the highest mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada Range at 8900 feet. We will only be at 8900' for a moment as we go over the pass and then we will descend quickly and in a very curvilicious manner to 4500 feet. We will turn on to South Virginia Street heading North and go to Need2Speed where we will park the cars and do a photo op in the parking lot. Inside, we will do a qualifier race and a main heat. There is a WCR award for the winner. You will also pick up another card for the poker game here. After our indoor gokart track fun, we get back in the cars and take a long 3 block trip to Joe's Diner for lunch. Joe's is a car club friendly 50's atmosphere rail car style diner. The food is Americana Diner style with burgers and fries and such. Time to pick up another card. Next, we'll wind our way through the Reno roads to Summit Racing Supply Retail store. Seems everyone has a catalog, but not many see the place up close and personal. Oh, and another card. After our visit to Summit, we will head up to Truckee and back in toward the Northeast side of the lake then clockwise, we will head back to Montbleu with views of the lake out your passenger side (unless you have one of the uber rare right hand drive models with you. Extra points for that). Once back at the Montbleu lot, your last card is dealt and we compare poker hands. Winning hand gets a special prize from our perennial sponsor 914Rubber.com.
Important things to know:
Fill your tank. This is about an 80 - 100 mile trip. It seems to me that 50% of 914 gas gauges don't work and 50% aren't accurate. We will leave you for dead if you run out of gas. Not really but Yopu said I should say that...
The cost for the indoor go kart track is out of your pocket, bring it.
The cost for your lunch at Joe's is out of your pocket so bring that too. Joe is calling in waitresses especially for our visit so be generous. Make it worth their while...
The poker is 5 cards best hand wins. Number of decks will depend on participation.
Get your registration in! Lake Tahoe is breathtaking year round but Spring is special because the ski bums are gone and the lake is ours!
Get those registrations in! This is going to be a blast. Fun and friends at one of the most beautiful places in the world!
And we promise, the ice and snow will be almost completely gone!

Drive it, tow it, just be there. You'll be glad you did.
Or you could just drive your truck and watch all the cool 914s!
If any one needs anything brought up let me know as Ive got a lot more
room in my truck than any 914, well except maybe the limo!
Get er done guys!
Registered! Now I just have to get the car off the jack stands.
Need to get registered....don't wait till the last minute, you might not get a t shirt.
Those that register last will be put at the end of each food line...
You know you want to go....get registered.
Damn it's coming fast! Get on this people
I'm registered. I didn't see that you wanted my login but I assume you know that rsime914@XXXXXXX is me.
Doubt if we'll make it this year, no teener anymore...it lives in Pa. these days. I don't know if a Honda would be appropriate....
A 914 is not a requirement to attend, being a member here, and having a desire to go and hang out, look at cars, and talk about cars, are the only requirements......that and pay the fee
Everyone is welcome to attend as always, the more the merrier.
Of course if you don't drive a 914, we will either be jealous of what you do drive, or make fun of you......which ever applies.
Come enjoy some good food, and great scenery, might even be some interesting conversation. Not much time left.....get registered.
Man that mower could cut my grass! Which I'll need to do at least twice before WCR Of course it needs to stop raining first
Registration sent via Paypal.
Last day to register and be guaranteed a T shirt, order goes in tomorrow morning.....get R Done people, if you're going better get registered.....if not...why are you reading this
Seriously though if you can't go that's ok.......More beer for us
Dang it found out Morgan has a bulging disc. He's got surgery before & wan't be able to make the trip down. There is one out of my caravan . Trying to get more people coming from my area but seems like everyone close can't make this one . Worst case it will just be me & Steve from Oregon. Haven't heard of anyone from WA who is planning to go either
I would be happy to have a co-pilot if any P'land folks want a ride down...
Are you guys coming down 5 then up through Sacramento? If so, I'll meet you guys to caravan the last couple hours at least.
OK I am registered. Better late than never
leamon
Alright! Leamon's in the house!!!
It is with low fluid levels and heavy rust that I must accept the teener isn't going to be roadworthy in time.
I grabbed a 2 queen bed room on the 3 day deal if someone wants to take it. $226, with 3x $10 due at check-in for "resort fees".
PM before the 8th.
Took mine out for a shake down run last night . All I gotta say is Hell yeah . Runs great!
Only problem I have is finding the whatever died in my car. Started at Route 66 & it fuchin stinks. I can't find the son of bitch anywhere.
Come on up! One of the most beautiful places on earth! (And 914's)
OK, just signed up, and need to pay someone before we come, got the rooms at the MontBleu.....now after I pay and apologize for coming in a Honda 914-Accord.....I can't wait to see the old gang and the new gang too. My "green Machine" is happily resting in Pennsylvania with Dr. Evil....
Yes! And bring Lynn too!
Bump for Mike
Not sure who 'invited' the Sierra-Nevada Region of the PCA but when I got the Drifter today the President's column invites the membership to drop in.
I sent the board an email informing them that this is a closed event that requires admission. They are welcome to attend. But, they must be members of 914World and pay the fee.
Time is ticking away! Event in just a couple weeks!
Getting close! So looking forward to this. I sure hope we get a good turnout. Seem to be alot of I can't make it this year happening
I just got a call from the MontBleu hotel explaining that on the day I arrive May 15th, (my birthday) the pool will be closed but will re-open on the 16th (the day after my birthday). So if you had your heart set on a dip in the pool on the 15th, (my birthday) fogetaboutit.
We are going to get the boot befor we even get there, the poor girl must have
A treble time calling evry one who will be staying that one day. I received the
same call and kidded her about a discount for the day of pool maintanec!
Awright, awright, awright! Bag packed, oil checked, fuel topped off, GPS programed. I'll get an early start first thing in the morning. See some of you tomorrow.
Elliot where the hell are you. I'm down in the parking lot & nobody is here . If you got me here a week early I'm going to be pissed
There's a pool?
Greetings Ramblers! Just four days till we invade Lake Tahoe!
Just checked the weather report and it looks like we are looking at clear skies with highs in the mid 70's and lows in the mid 40's. Bring something to keep warm for the late night parking lot get-to-gethers! This is really good news because Incline Village on the East side of the lake, just 30 miles from my house got snow just the other day!
Any questions should be asked here and now because the dis-organizers have to get ready too!
Question for the dis-organizers. When do the activities start on Thu May 15? When is the barbecue? I live in Reno and will commute back and forth... and I am registered for the event.
Question for the dis-organizers. When do the activities start on Thu May 15? When is the barbecue? I live in Reno and will commute back and forth... and I am registered for the event.
Typically the BBQ just starts when there are enough people there hungry. I'd say somewhere about 6:30 or so. Don't expect anything to special with the bbq. Pretty basic burgers & dogs unless you bring something special you want to grill. This is just us doing it in the parking lot. Very low key, basic & relaxed deal. The thursday night deal plenty of people miss. Wether they get in late or arrive friday morning for the real festivities
Whoa only a couple days away . Weather looks kick ass all week too. Well in Oregon anyway. Guess I need to check Tahoe
Just went to Tahoe for the weekend... the roads were clear and was nice. The weather was not bad except for the light dusting of snow Saturday evening, it was over with real quick. I'm ready to go back.
Two days and a wake up! Who's excited about WCR2014 Teeners at Tahoe II???
Yes can't wait to get up the hill!
Follow up question.
I work Thursday and Friday, but I'll show up Saturday.
Where and when is the "group photo"? I can't find a time or place for these gatherings.
I'll be driving a Guards Red Boxster, and photographing/writing about the event for the Stoddard blog, and for FlatSixes.com, so if you have something interesting to say, say it to me!
I'll only be around for Saturday, won't be staying in the hotel, and won't be eating any of the food. If I don't need a t-shirt, will I still need to register?
Thanks,
Brad
Everything starts at 9:14am each day (duh)...past that, it's hard to say the group photo portion will start at exactly x:xx time since events could go long, short plus getting 914 owners all together for a photo is like herding cats!
It looks like I'll be driving this... Original Customs is trying to get 4 cars ready for this event so hopefully McMark can walk and talk after this marathon wrench week!
Attached image(s)
OMG! Stoddard NLA is two blocks from my work! Never mind Brad! Google answered first!
Anyone from So.Cal. area driving up Thurs? We plan to leave Santa Clarita around 8am or so.
One more day of work
Tomorrow my bliss of driving my 914 for 4 days kicks in
Anybody know how many cars will be at the WCR this year? How many have registered? I'm leaving early Thursday morning. Up at 6 out by 7. Yeah right.
You guys better have a vegan Birthday Cake for Elliot Thursday when he arrives.
Second thought he'll probably just have a drink.
