I came out to the car this morning to find the windshield completely coated with frost--except where the windshield wipers had rested. Ho-boy, and my ice scraper is in my other car, 15 minutes away! Good thing the SSIs work so well; it took about 3 minutes to clear the windshield off completely!
That was fine, because I had some other stuff to deal with. I'll let you see in the photo below what I was doing with the car.
People gave me some very funny looks on my way in to work. I wonder why???

My driving would never allow for that, unless you strapped it down really good to the roll cage.
Funny Dave, yeah, I bet you got a few looks driving around like that. Boy, seeing that picture sure makes me miss the sunshine. The days are starting to get longer, but man, cold, wet and still too short. Dark when I go to work, dark when I get home. Bummer. Another month and things will be much better.
Great pic Dave!
Once I drove across town with a 9 foot ficus tree sticking out the top. Didn't even lose that many leaves!
Hey Dave is that the "Corporate Ladder"?

When I went tree shopping, I drove the teener, too!
Good one Dave! And some people call these cars impractical! (My girlfriend being one of them.)
Take your 914 to the grocery store sometime. It's great fun to watch the stock boy's face as you load 2 carts worth of groceries into this little car.
Just make sure you separate the frozen stuff and put it in the FRONT trunk. Otherwise it will be thawed before you get home
Nice looking 1974.
What ladder... I bet that they were just jealous.

atta boy Dave,
Reminds me of the time my girlfriend and I (now my wife) picked up her grandmother at the airport in the 914
The grandmother sat in the center with her beehive hairdo blowin in the wind.
talk about funny looks
Heh... The tree stories remind me that my GF and I picked up a ~8 foot (fake) tree a while back in the 914. We put the tree on the passenger floorboard, then she got into the car and worked her way around it.
Actually, the ladder was further down in the car. The center console and the inner longitudinal held it in place quite well!! I was able to take left-hand turns "at speed" quite easily, and the right-hand turns were a little slower and not quite as easy.

One time I had to drive with an 8 ft bookshelf in my fiat 124. I put it in the passenger seat and held onto it with my right hand. So I couldnt see out the ride side and shifting was near impossible. I ended up only going about a block though... it was a sight to see though!
Its fantastic that someone gets to enjoy their fourteen at this time of year, We had snow and gobs of salt on every road round here.
Next sunny dry day and I am getting permit, may not bring the ladder....
well the worst i ever did was a bought my dad a portor cable compressor and nail gun kit for xmas, the box measured about 3 foot by 18 inches by 2 foot. would not have been a big deal but my gf was with me. i put it on the engine lid and put straps around the targa bar, and just closed the doors with the windows open
Ladder?? I thought that was a spoiler. Reminds me of driving home from Home Depot with ten foot sections of rain gutter sticking through the sun roof of my 911.
Cheers, Elliot
PS Nice car!!!
This reminds me of the time my best buddy won a Super Bowl Lunch from the local Subways sandwich joint. He ended up transporting 70 soft drink containers and 70 foot-long sandwiches in his 914 with no front hood. Only place for the drinks was in the front. Cup lids were flying away and drinks sloshing about as he was driving down Highway 280. Other drivers were visibly pointing out the window and laughing at my friend! It was a hilarious sight to see!
Dave...you have a great looking car! My "why did you haul that in that" story....My older brother and I went and got a xmas tree in his 63 corvair. Tree in front trunk and us driving with our heads out the window!
I'm still amazed you're actually driving a 914! Nice lookin ride too...
Aw your a light weight Dave, put a lumber rack on there and carry some pipe too.

Sure is a nice looking 914 there Dave or DD as they call you. Did you find the one that smaked out your tail light a couple months back now that sucked.
"One time at band camp........."
Most verstile cars around. I get looks too when I unpack the car at the Autocross event. 4 tires, floor jack, jack stands, umbrella, folding chair, tool box, cooler, big bag of clothes (rain gear etc.) torque wrench Helmet, etc .
Carried 250 sq. ft. of ceramic tile with mortar, buckets and other tools.

I'm pretty sure that even you guys are too smart to joke at the expense of a female lawyer with PMS...
Thanks for the compliments on the car, but it actually looks a lot worse in person. The back half is nice and shiney (except for the scrapes you can see by the left-rear taillight--GRRR!!!) but the front half has completely dead sun-damaged paint. I'll have to fix that some day, but the mortgage is just eating up my funds.
No clue who bashed the car. It's useable now (even looks OK if you squint) and I have higher priorities frankly. Like packing up all my stuff and moving.

I have been known to do fire alarm service work out of mine.
It is a great battery hauler!
My favorite activity for the car is attending fire alarm inspections, so much better thana truck. When you pull up in the 914 they can know you are done installing.
Today, I wound up parked next to one of very few cars out there that can make the 914 look large....

Wait your 914 runs?! Since when?!! |
I found one smaller it is an older Fiat 500. It is 4pass, sun roof, front trunk and rear motor.

My ole 014 is parked in front of it but side by side trust me this car is small like the clown car at the circus.
