I bought a new (tinted) windshield from this guy a few months ago for $175 and am happy with it. He imported a batch of them and sold them thru ebay. FYI -Mike

I got a windsheild last year from a local guy in August for $225. He said he could still get another one as well. Good sign, there must be someone out there still making them.

That said, I have one that is just about perfect sitting on a parts car. IPB Image

Mine had one "clam":ph34r: in it (small) that one did not see at all while driving (obscured by the rear view mirror), a perfect place. IPB Image

About a month ago the windshield has developed an almost full circle crack around the mirror mount as if the mirror had been impacted (smacked) , perhaps causing the new crack (not involving the "clam":ph34r:).

I need to replace it but I've spent some time in "glass shops" and seen a number of windshields changed and alot of them do not exactly "jump out of the windshield frame".

I gonna let someone else do this one I think. IPB Image

FYI bud,

That was almost certainly caused by someone using the wrong kind of glue to attach the rear view mirror. Rear view mirror adhesive is a special kind of glue that happens to look very much like super glue. I used to see exactly the kind of crack you described pretty often when I was in the auto glass business. Invariably, it was due to people trying to glue on their rear view with super glue. The problem with "super glue" is that it binds too well to the glass, leaving no "give" for thermal expansion and contraction which results in a curved or circular break right around the mirror mount. Another issue can be from the unusually broad base on many (most?) stock 914 mirrors. From the factory they were mounted with a thick adhesive that created a slightly flexible mounting point to allow for temperature changes. If you are putting on a broad based stock mirror with modern rear view mirror adhesive, it is important that you only put a small amount on the center and not to coat the entire base, since modern adhesive doesn't have nearly as much give as the factory stuff, and that can also cause a thermal stress crack because of the unusually large surface area of that style of base.
