Eric,
You might want to update your sig... Just saying...
Moab works great for us as I would have been a no show at Bryce. I have a convention (home theater) in Denver that entire week and will be sneaking out early as it is. I should make it to Moab by dinner time Friday.
Cheers!

I always make sure Ron is in back. One, his car is slow. Two, to follow Slits is similar to trailing the Valdez.

You're no fun if you don't play in the dirt...

Well if you don't know.....we certainly don't
Looks like I'm out.....cars not going to be ready, haven't even started taking it apart, so don't think it will be done by then. Unless someone has a spare 2.7 lying around I can borrow.

Lack of a running 914 is not considered a valid reason for non-attendance at RRC.

That's true I made it last year.......and my 914 didn't run......at least not while I was there.
My only other choice would be the work truck.........doesn't sound like an enjoyable drive.
Maybe next year, had a great time in Durango.

If you're referring to the Gateway auto museum, Eric Lowe told me the road between Gateway and Moab is unfortunately extremely crappy. On Friday, we plan to take I-70 to hwy 128. 128 is a great drive. There's an auto museum in GJ, though....

Yes I was... hmmm, maybe I'll do a preview ride to check it out. If it's good enough for the hog it should be teener worthy. I've only seen it on the map and the road looks plenty twisty which is usually good. Will report my findings- I know the highway isn't a bad drive but it is a highway...

Gint took me an Piper to the Fruita event in the 914. The only problem is what to do with the dog when everyone else is headed to dinner... at least that was our problem.
Having a dog on your lap in a car for hours isn't exactly super fun, though.

If I had a significant number that wanted to go, perhaps I could call and see if they could open a little early for a special occasion....

Yup, all the rooms in Moab are gone at the Virginian. I reserved more rooms at the GJ motel.

She's fine. Has a nanny gig & they need her that weekend. She's excited as she will have their newborn through the whole weekend. Should be an eye opening experience for her
. She is flying out to Oregon about a week before. So I get to spend time with her & then drive her home on my way. So my trip is still justified as I need to take her home

Don't know if anything else is planned in Moab for events that would drive up motel prices, but the Apache isn't pricey and still pretty close to downtown. Usually doesn't fill up unless there's something big happening in town.

This is the only event I see listed for that weekend:
Thu-Sat 11-13 Canyonlands National Park 50th Anniversary Celebration - The Canyonlands 50th Anniversary will be a yearlong event that will culminate in mid-September, 2014. There will a variety of events through out the year with a main event the weekend of September 11th, 12th, & 13th. During this time there will be an historic film festival, a dutch oven community dinner, historic displays at the Museum of Moab, an art show at the MARC with a rededication ceremony at the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. For more info visit bateswilson.org or call 435-259-0108.

Dinner on Saturday will be at Moab Brewery.
We're finalizing plans and will post $$ for BBQ and Saturday lunch soon. Dinner on Saturday will be off the regular menu so checks will be issued per standard restaurant process.
Please make sure I have you listed as attending, a) the GJ BBQ at the Lowe's, and/or b) in Moab, in the 1st post.
17 MORE DAYS!!!

3. Box lunch on Saturday that includes a sandwich of your choice, apple, chips and a cookie. We'll also have drinks available at the drive lunch stop.
You can paypal me event fees at gintersm@yahoo.com
ALSO, and this is VERY IMPORTANT!!! PM or email me your sandwich preference, or if you do not want lunch please let me know that you don't want lunch. Your choices are:
Bread: Wheat or white
Meat: Turkey, chicken, ham, roast beef, or veggie if you don't want meat
Cheese: They gave me a list of all the usual plus more so just let me know what kind of cheese you want or if you don't want cheese.

WTB: 5 lug wheel for a spare
I know this should be in Classifieds - but I thought if someone coming to RRC had one I could grab it from them?
I just converted to 5 lug on the red car and now I need a spare.
I currently have 16" wheels - but I think 15" would be fine with a similar height tire. Space saver would be awesome...
Anybody got one?
PS: I know there isn't much room if you are driving a 914 to Moab but you never know...

Mike, PM Gint and see if he has one. I think we're driving the truck because he's dragging something for someone else to the event. I'm not sure how often he checks this thread.

Mike, although I don't have "extras" per se, I do have 5 15x7" cookie cutters with new rubber that aren't being used at the moment. Please don't go out of your way. I will probably be fine as I put new tires on the car last week.
I am home all day Wednesday - maybe if time works out we can grab lunch - maybe the club where we had the awards dinner on your way out of town even.

Not looking good for me, finally got my fuel lines fixed. Went to turn the key today....no power to the fuel pump
Not sure why this is an issue was working fine, didn't mess with the electrical except hook it to the new pump. Car electrical and myself don't get along, checked everything I can think of and nothing. Unless my ignition switch just happen to go out I'm stumped.
Don't have a relay board, pump relay is wired directly off a switched power source at the fuse panel, relay is under the dash, pump in front trunk.
I'm kinda running out of time, was hoping to start the loaner motor today, then see what I needed to do, kinda hard to start it with no fuel.
Sucks I've got two more days off, then next weekend... And I'm dead in the water now.
Like I said, not looking good

. Of course as an added bonus if it never get's off the trailer it can't break mid trip either

I drove mine from the beverage store back to the hotel with jumper cables hooked from my battery to the fuel pump.
Also, a few years ago we drove 200 miles home with 3 cylinders.
RRC can get entertaining with some of the repairs.

A running 914 is not a requirement for attendance. If it was, it would severely deplete attendance numbers.

Salt Lake City Way Point
Gang, Nikki and I will be heading out Friday AM for Moab.
That said, the pad is always available for crashing and a BBQ for those passing through doing the Grand Junction full cruise or the Moab Friday Saturday thing.
We have the Guest Room and a fold out couch in the theater room. We also have the trailer which can be parked in the driveway and can be made available to sleep another 6 if needed.
Let me know the plans and I can start gathering the grub and refreshments.

BTW - I'm canceling my extra room in Moab later today so if anyone wants it please PM me before it's gone. $200/night at the La Quinta. Can't wait

Ha, don't be too jealous, working on carbs isn't exactly my dream vacation
Cleaning the idle jets didn't do much, readjusting the linkage helped a lot but still not quite there. Tried cleaning the air bypass circuit and adjusting to sync the carbs but not getting all of them to react to adjustments. Drives like it's lacking power and missing a bit. Never liked carbs....now I remember why.
Hope to make some progress tomorrow, three more days to figure it out or my vacation will turn into chores around the house.

For those attending the RRC. I installed 1.7 stainless steel heat exchangers on Sandy's 2.0. Why? Because it's what I had. I went to install the rear valance panel and discovered the one I have either must be for a 2.0 or the muffler I used is an odd ball or I need a 1.7 part. The tail pipe exits slightly to the right of the valance cut out. Are the 1.7 and 2.0 cut outs different?
If they are I think I need a 1.7 Valance. Anyone coming to the event have one they can sell me? The car looks incomplete without it.
I also need a couple license plate lights if anyone has a couple they want to bring.

Rick, I'm pretty sure all the valances are the same (for the -4's). You need a 1.7 muffler/hanger now to get the tailpipe in the right spot.

Rick - does the valance have a notch or a hole? If a hole (referred to as "snowplows") there were two different ones. There was the one for a /6 and a different one for an early /4. The holes were slightly off from one another.

I think you have an oddball muffler. Valance's were the same barring the deep six valance I believe. I've got a spare valance I can bring if you want to cut yours to make it work. With a man of your metal skill. I'm sure you can just fab one in a few minutes right

Well John, I'm going to run to Flagstaff and up to Moab. Adds 100 miles to the trip ... about 2 hrs. Not going to mess with I-15. Andy is doing the same.
3 Hail Marys and my fingers are crossed.
When will you be going through Flagstaff? Maybe we can meet up.
You guys are going to GJ. I will be in Flag late Thursday nite at my favorite hotel ... Econo Lodge University on Milton St .... remember?

John is wussin' out.
My trip from Riverside is 691 miles up I-15. Going thru Flag to get to Moab is 808 ... about 100 miles extra as I have to find a bottle of TRES GENERACIONES Tequila!!

Hey Slits - we'll be going thru Flagstaff around 9AM Friday morning. Vehicle TBD - I planned to drive the 944 but water pump is leaking (I know, what's that?) and the new one has to arrive overnight from LA. If that works the car will be ready Thursday night; otherwise I drive the 914 and my wife will have to smell gas for 8.5 hours .

Hey BTW: how do you guys tune your injection for this altitude?
You don't. It will adjust somewhat for less air density. Some high altitude residing cars were fitted with an additional module for altitude compensation. I've never seen one.
Never had a problem with a /4 or /6 fuel injected engine at 11,000 feet.
