Anyone got a good condition Monza in their stash, or know of someone that will sell one for a 2.0/4?

Posted by: Gint May 30 2003, 01:09 PM

Hey Loser!

I have a rusty one I'll give you if you come and get it. Surface rust, not holes, nice and loud.

what about one of the fakes?

Now that's funny. Could it be that the only thing worse than a Monza muffler is a.... fake Monza muffler? tongue.gif

-Ben M.

(sorry Rusty. Nothin personal)

Loser!!! What do you want with one of those pos? Do you have a collection of mufflers on the garage wall?
Geoff

Posted by: Pam May 30 2003, 01:52 PM

Hey all, I'm the one that begged for the Monza exhaust for the Bee...Rusty was just posting at my request so he's not a loser for that.

Now..the fact that me asked me to finally get a sign on so I could join you fine folks on this bbs and defend his request for the Monza.....well.....I'll let you all make the call about how that affects his loser status.

Posted by: mr914 May 30 2003, 02:03 PM

I have a couple of rusty ones up in the rafters....

I'll check to see if they are 2.0 or 1.7's

Your not a looser.

Real loosers still have thunderbird exhausts (extractors) finger.gif

Gee, I have a couple of sets of those in the rafters too...

Posted by: Lawrence914-6 May 30 2003, 02:06 PM

I took the muffler off of Pam's car.

It had gotten so loud, that I couldn't start the car in the garage. Truly as bad as NO muffler at all. So, I got another muffler, Bursch... I think. Nice and quiet.

Pam says it's not throaty enough.

Back to square one.

Posted by: Bleyseng May 30 2003, 02:09 PM

We are just teasing him. If you want to put a Monza on the car go right ahead, its just that they are cheap pieces of crap that rust instantly. A Bursch is way nicer or even a oem banana.

Glad you signed up as I had wondered what happened to the toolwench!
How about a recent pic of the car in the member pic thread?
Geoff

Nice try, Pam.

It's pretty low rent of Rusty to con you into taking responsibility for his loser status.

Ya can't fool an old fool wacko.gif

That's right. He's your Champion. And the more we pick on him the more of a hero it makes him, right? So we're doing him a favor, right? smile.gif

Thanks guys.

I'm really against this whole Monza thing.. but Pam has veto authority on the Bumblebee....

give the bursch some time, it will get louder. give the monza some time, it will get too much louder. enjoy the bottoms of the chome tips while you can. the notch looks ackward with the pipes centered BELLOW the valance. get 4 ht ex to muffler gaskets. you'll need the other 2 when you switch back.

How do we know that is really Pam? unsure.gif

Rusty may have just created another ID to take the heat of himself for being such a loser. cool_shades.gif

Posted by: Aaron Cox May 31 2003, 08:55 AM

monza's are the ones with four tips right?

Posted by: Bleyseng May 31 2003, 08:56 AM

For a muffler that "throaty" get a Triad exhaust. Sounds nice and throaty, has the option of one or two pipes. On the two pipe you have to cut the valence to match the other side. Kinda of a trick look.
Geoff

Posted by: Aaron Cox May 31 2003, 09:01 AM

i think you can buy a monza from performanve prod. or is that a MANTA?

Posted by: Pam May 31 2003, 09:17 AM

Thanks, Brad, for the Monza offer. I know Rusty was hoping they'd all rusted away and we wouldn't be able to find one.

Regarding the comment that with ladies on the board you'd all have to 'clean your act up'...don't worry about me. Heck - I even like Zois' 'bouncing lady' avatar....but....really, guys, you couldn't help drop an engine with those things in the way....trust me.

Yeah, this week.

Posted by: campbellcj Jun 1 2003, 01:06 PM

You could probably cut the muffler out of the Bursch and weld a different one in its place. If you check out Jegs or Summit, they've got dozens of different flavors.

Posted by: Qarl Jun 1 2003, 10:49 PM

Check out E-bay. There's a NOS Ansa Muffler that looks a lot like the Monza muffler...

Things are looking up for me!! mueba.gif

Thanks for the eBay links... a new one would be preferrable to one that's already started it's rapid decent into the salty pit of rust-dom.

Last week I swapped my stock mufflers(Ugliest pieces of crap i've ever seen and it sounds worse than it looks) from my 75' 2.0 for a MONZA(the one only Losers use) and I have no regrets whatsoever!
I did lose some low-end torque sad.gif , but definitely gained some top-end hp smile.gif , and the Monza is like half of the weight smile.gif . $40 Monza Muffler= biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif lots of smiles! I can't beelieve that I drove my 914 for over a year with those mufflers. wacko.gif

I still have my 2.0L Monza 4-tip available, for whoever it was that was interested.

Email me if you want pics.

Can you post them here?

Apparently Lawrence hasn't tired of trying to convince me the Monza exhaust was NOT what I wanted for the Bee (although I took the one and only positive Monza post as a small victory). In our conversation today, he asked me what it was I liked about the Monza (I'm sure this breaks some 'guy' rule about direct communication but don't kick him out of the club - he was motivated by the frightening thought of driving the Bee with the Monza).

Here's the list of why I like the sound of a Monza (I've excluded the obvious accessory reason satisfied by the cute little horse sticker that matches the Bee):
1) It sounds sexy in a low throaty way
2) It is loud enough to disguise the sound when I miss a shift
3) It makes the car sound like more than it is
4) People hear the car (safety? anyone buying that? hey...we had to disconnect the horn - I want them to HEAR me coming)

Looks wise - I agree the 4 tips might not look like it fits really well with the valance on the Bee.

So....with that list - can anyone in the group suggest a muffler that would be the same sort of sound without the offense of the Monza look??

-Pam

PS - Brad - I know you were putting together the package with the muffler - I appreciate you getting that ready right away but Lawrence has convinced me its not really what I want.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Jun 3 2003, 05:54 PM

Its not a problem.. I dont like them personally.. but I try not to force my "likes and dislikes" on people.

The Bursch is the best bang for the buck.. and widely accepted.

I wish I had a SSI 914-4 muffler for you..
