What is your opinion on which is the best carb setup for good power and streetability? Dellorto or Weber Carbs?

What are your thoughts on aftermarket fuel injection systems?

Street: Stock fuel injection. Or if you must go the carb route, Dellorto.

Race/track/adjustability: Weber.

It seems like old rebuilt carbs are better than new. The quality of new versions of webbers & Dell's is lacking.

New Dellorto's don't exist. I prefer Dellorto over Weber myself. I've used both on VW's and 914's and the Dell's are always easier to work on and tune.

The last webers I bought for a 914 was about 5 years ago and the casts were so bad that I had leaks and major problems. The guy I got them from did send me a new one (left side) I believe but they sucked. Never did run really correctly. Bought them from a supplier in New York.

If your willing to pay the money and ship from Europe you can still find them. Won't last long. Looks like only one pair available.

I have two sets of 36's. I need to find someone who can clean them up and rebuild them.

Okay, I have a set of old Dellortos and the manifolds. . but that's it.

I was thinking of selling them, but can an idiot (me) rebuild them, get some kind of linkage, get some kind of air fillter assemblies etc?

The rebuild isn't too bad on the Dellortos- quite a few resources out there that walk you through the process. A good linkage is about $100 and well worth the money- mine stayed in sync so much better after I upgraded the linkage. As for the air filter parts, I believe K&N makes all that you'd need for that.

Dellorto's are awesome carbs. Many parts are available from cbperformance.com who was the US distributor for Dellorto. You can also get rebuilt carbs and lots of NOS parts from alfa1750 who is an Ebay seller from Italy. I've bought rebuilt carbs and parts from David at alfa1750. I've received everything from him always in less than a week. He's an expert on Dell's and has been in business over 20 years. He also deals in Webers.. You can buy linkage kits from CBperformance, Tangerine Racing has a slic cable a and pully system and there is a company from Germany called CSP that makes a really slic linkage system.
