500 P-cars expected in a beautiful venue during Monterey Car WeeK
This for-real event is a great opportunity for us non-members, from our non-chapters, to represent the 914world non-club en masse
You in?
Spectators are free (park across the street for a small fee). Display your P-car in the Corral for $40. Enter the Concours for $60. Pretty easy. You must pre-register online though.
Anyone wanting to join me for the trip to Carmel early on Aug 15 is welcome to join a caravan over Highway 17 and down the coast.
We will leave from the Home Depot parking lot in Campbell, CA promptly at 6:15am.
480 E Hamilton Ave
Campbell, CA 95008

I'm trying to get mine off jack stands by then.
The Diablo PCA is hosting a caravan from the Safeway parking lot at Bernal & 680 in Pleasanton CA. It's meeting early, 5:45am.
6790 Bernal Av.
Thanks for posting this.. I'm coming up for the Historics and may come a day early for this event...
I'm in ... signed up and ready to go! I'm not really into the car show thing, but I did sign up for the car corral. It's a good excuse to play hooky from work for a day. Jeff, I'll meet up with you at the Home Depot and caravan down.
I'm signed up for the corral.
I'm not sure yet which caravan I will take. Jeff B's looks better for time. The 680 S commute will be in effect and the PCA guys might get caught in it.
Cool Dave! Will be great to hang with you for the day. Looks like Tom Trudell is also signed up...he has a clean Renegade Subified 914.
Cool Mike! If you decide to ride with us, let me know and we can tag team it down to Campbell if you want.
I'll register for the corral but probably won't make the historics. You almost need a 4X4 to park in the dirt at Laguna Seca.
I'll spend Thursday night in Castroville (I didn't feel like paying $5.90 for one night). I'm registered for the corral. I'll see you all on the 15th.
Cheers, Elliot
Excellent news Elliot! Will be good to see you and your beast of a 914 again. Been a long time.
I'm registered for the event but then the wifes cousin decided to get married in Kansas City that weekend. I thought she could go to the wedding and I could do some fun stuff, but that was not going to fly. Then I tried to convince her that I should be able to wear blue jeans and a T shirt to the wedding. You can imagine how that went over.
Bottom line is of course that I wont be at Werks. It sounds like a great time.
Hoping to get her road legal...ish to join..... taken alot of vacation days this summer, so not sure I can miss another work day.
for Werks (not Wrecks, though I'm sure wrecks are welcome too).
All signed up!
Sounds like a fun event.
Cool that it's in Carmel.
Maybe Clint will wander through and make our day.....
I'm driving out in the GTO, and I'm pit crew for my buddy's Jagermeister RSK car all weekend at the track, but I think I should have time to swing by on friday.
Hope to see some of you there! If you are going to the races, look for me in the pits, Orange 75 Jagermeister 911 RSK.

Registered for the corral today. Now working on Kathy N to attend this year with her car.
I have decided to caravan with my 914 brothers.
Jeff, how about we meet at the the Starbucks on Alcosta at Village Parkway. You name the time.
That's a great idea Mike, its just around the corner from my house. Lets leave there at 0515 hours, to get to Campbell a few minutes early.
The event has around 400 signups already, with 4 weeks to go...I think it is going to be fun.
Campbell is a little out of my way but the caravan sounds like fun. I'll be there at 6:15!
There's only 40 spots left. Rancho Canada will only allow us 500 cars. Every concours and corral entrant will receive a very cool aluminum Michelin folding chair, plus door prize entry for an all expensive paid trip for two to the 2015 Le Mans (maybe Porsche will win this time), tires, etc. Better odds than at the Parade banquets (they usually have over 1000 people).
There are going to be some very cool cars attending...can't wait.
OK, I just confirmed that I will be at this event as well. I'm helping out with the showing of a 58 Carrera Speedster. Tough work, but somebody's gotta do it
Registered for the corral.
I'm registered for the corral too but since my 914 is track only I have to bring the "other" Porsche. Will try and find you guys. My plan is to do surveillance at the bier garden... I'll be the one drinking a beer
I count fourteen 914s registered and 32 spots left.
The event ends mid afternoon...anyone want to organize an afterparty somewhere nearby for a group 914 photo and chow?
I'm thinking of taking this in after the Werks breaks up.
Not so sure about being in the event, Maybe just staking a spot along the route somewhere and watching all the money drive by.

Just a heads up to all plan extra time to where ever you are going on Friday in Carmel and Monterey. Last year I just caught in traffic as the Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance runs the same morning thru the area and roads get blocked to keep them running. After the Legends event the highway was grid locked ( bumper to bumper - old air cooled cars) That being said I would be up for a get together afterwards.
FYI. Werks is hiring a CHP officer to help cars exit the event in the afternoon. In past years, Legends did not have this and it was a game of chicken trying to make a left out of the golf course.
Werks Reunion is now sold out. Looks like sixteen 914s made it into the event ... six for the Concours and 10 in the corral.
I found out a little too late. But I may try to drive down with you guys and park across the street at the church if that is okay.
Yea I dragged my heels too long to get a spot. Depending on how the car is doing, I may join you in the church parking lot.
I'm driving out this Sunday for the week. If anyone is doing the early week stuff (cars on the avenue in Carmel, the little car show ect) keep a lookout for me.
My cell 720-470, ten sixty three
Here is a recent pic so you can recognize me
We should pick a time and place to all meet up.
How about High Noon at the Beer Tent?
Volunteering?? I thought you were former Marine enlisted? $hit. You weren't an officer were you?
Last call for the 914 caravan to Werks Reunion tomorrow. Bright and early!
See post#1 for the rendezvous details.
I'll be saying at the Arichoke Inn in Castroville for a early start. See ya tomorrow.
Cheers, Elliot
I will meet you guys in Campbell at around 6:05. I got the day off
If I can't get my butt out of bed on time...I will try and catch up.
Jeff, I'll be gassed up, at Starbucks at 5am to grab a cup and be ready to go.
There is a slim chance another 914-6 will be there (Silver, marked 53). I invited him but be may go early.
Fantastic show! Great to see some familiar faces.
Singer Porsche
It was great driving down with you guys.

Jeff Bowlsby's excellent Bumblebee. Many points were deducted for ratty wiring harnesses. I handn't seen Jeff in about nine years. Neither one of has changed. (much).

This is a great weekend for car buffs. I went to Monterey on Thursday and stopped by to see the cars at the Russso Steele auction at Fishermans Wharf. I have never seen so many high dollar cars. MEGA bucks!! Friday was the WERKS reunion and historics Sat. and Sun. Here's a few more pics from WERKS reunion.
Attached image(s)
Okay, here are some of mine. You know me and pictures ... prepare to be inundated ...
I want to thank Jeff Bowlsby for organizing the caravan down to the event. I believe we had six or seven 914's in our caravan. We had a safe, albeit wet, run over Highway 17, and then down Highway 1 to Monterey.
The Werks Reunion was centered around the lunch tent / beergarten. Cars radiated out from the tent, like the ripples in water. Four cars were given special treatment, based on each one's age and historical significance.
This one-of-a-kind steel bodied American Roadster from 1952 was, I believe, the oldest car there.
Only 253 Rometsch Beeskow's were produced from 1950-1957 (I looked it up).
The Seinfeld Collection brought two cars to the event. First is the last 356 ever made, in June of 1966, for the Dutch police force.
And here is the first 911 ever made, shown originally at the 1964 New York World's Fair.
There were four 914s entered in the Concours and three entered in the Outlaw, competition car, street modified ... whatever you want to call it ... section.
Here are the Concours entrants:
Jeff Bowlsby's Bumblebee. Jeff said this was his first ever Concours event, which surprised me. From an originality standpoint, his car looked to be spot on perfect. Unfortunately, most of these Concours events have more to do with cleaning and less to do with historical accuracy ...
George Eshaghian trailered his 914-6 all the way from SoCal. George said he had done a ground up restoration and it sure looked like it. Very beautiful 914-6.
Kathy Nagy's Bumblebee. It looks almost identical to Jeff's, except for the polished roof and the lack of bumper tits that Jeff's car has (some irony there ...)
Bob Schoenherr's '71 914-4. This car is in absolutely amazing condition, given the fact that it has over 100,000 miles and still wears its original paint. It won "Best of Porsche" at the 2013 Legends of Autobahn. Gonna be awfully hard to ever beat this one. The only things I saw wrong with this car was an aftermarket dome light and Euro taillights.
In the corral section, cars were lined up, roughly by type and age. First came the 356's, then the 911's, 914's and finally all the water cooled models. For me, the most interesting cars in the corral were the 356's. Here are a few:
Talk about rat rod, or in this case, ratty rod, the body of this 356 has been left just the way it was originally found.
The interior of the car has also been left as is, save for a couple of rudimentary seat covers.
You know, no matter where you stand, how patient you are, how long you wait, someone is sure to step in and photobomb your picture. But, uhhh, for some reason I really don't mind in this case ...
There were several 356's on display with vintage luggage racks, but this one was my favorite. It looks like it's ready for a trip to the Alps ...
This Speedster is shod with aftermarket wheels and a Glaspar roof. Very cool ...
Now we get to the 914s in the corral. There were seven in total. Here was the lineup:
Marty Yoeman and his wife Debbie drove down early and have been taking in a lot of the events during Car Week.
Mike Bellis. He disappeared for a while, but I'm not sure if he ever did his volunteer stint. Magnus Walker came by and personally greeted Mike. Of course I neglected to take a picture ...
me
Darryl Tjaden drove UP from Morgan Hill just to drive back DOWN in the caravan with us.
Michael Nagy's factory 914-6. He and his son Nolan were having a great time, while poor Kathy was stuck in the Concours section waiting for the judges to arrive.
Elliott Cannon. He messed up the date and got to Monterey two weeks early, parked his car on the fairway, and went sightseeing (which explains all the golf ball sized dents in his trunk).
Joe Lombardi from Salinas by way of New Jersey (the car, too!)
And finally, we get to the Outlaws & competition cars section.
First up is this fabulous engine housed inside the equally fabulous Singer.
If you ever wondered what Ferg (Mike Fergusson) looks like, there he is in the blue/gray t-shirt overseeing this beautiful 356.
I tried to look this phrase up and I got either a) Awesomely Cool or b) Super Mega Monkey Tits. Mmmmm, I'm kinda thinking it means awesomely cool. Either way, you're looking at a heavily modified 928.
Porsche 906. Wow, simply wow.
Tom Provasi's GTU racer.
Tom Trudell's Suby powered 914. Props to the guys swiggin' beer in the background ... keepin' the 914 mystique alive.
Bill Packwood's 914-6 GT.
Another ratty 356. I saw this car while driving home. The driver was trying to hold onto a huge sombrero with one hand while driving with the other... what a riot!
The winner of the 914 Concours was Bob Schoenherr. Here he is being interviewed during the awards ceremony.
Here are some other winners, lining up to form an impromptu winner's circle.
Finally, I'll finish off with an artsy fartsy shot of Kathy Nagy's Bumblebee reflected in Bob's mirror finish hup cap. All in all, it was a beautiful day and great event. I can't wait till next year!
Mike Nagey's white factory six is drop dead gorgeous.
You guys make sure to have some Velvetta and Boonesfarm
Thanks for the pics.

This really was a great show, and a great turnout. And by the looks of this thread, 914s are comin' UP. What a great bunch of cars! I'd really better get mine sorted asap.
Thanks for the pics.
Just got home from driving the 1400 miles back to Boulder, great to catch up with you guys and see all the cars. I'll have pics soon....

Dave, you're confusing photo bomb with photo enhancement.
Attached image(s)
Yes, El-Yutt, that's why we tease them with the title of "Concours Weenie". We don't understand why someone would take a perfectly driveable car and then clean it until it is practically too nice to drive.
The CWs, on the other hand, wonder how we could possibly take a nice pretty car like ours and thrash it within inches of its life on a race course...
Different strokes, as they say.
--DD
You're right Dayve. It's also possible that I'm just too forkin' lazy to want to keep my car that clean.
That was my first and last PCA concours. Not a bad experience, no worries, just a 'once in a lifetime' experience.
When the 'judge' deducted points for a rock chip on one rim of my 40-year old original paint wheels (I refuse to touch them up...I consider the rock chip as a badge of honor), when he pointed out 'rust' at the top edge of my engine bay pad that was obviously contact adhesive, when they awarded the top 914 prize to a fellow judges 914 that was clearly not the best quality 914 in the display [the Tangerine /6 was], I knew that these shows are not worth my trouble as a competitor. If PCA wants to become valid, they should just make all the awards be peoples choice, which involves the attendees. Forget the concours and judging - all cars present should just be on display and eligible for recognition. I got a cool folding chair and a sunburn for my efforts, and I cleaned my car up a little bit...and a lesson learned.
I respect these cars too much to put them up on a pedestal. When is the next drive? That is what these cars are about.
Thanks for the pics Dave. Great to meet everybody and share the ride down!

Fun trip, looking forward to next year. I was helping my good buddy with his Jagermeister RSR and his Bugatti at the track. Patrick Long had some seat time in another friends RSR so he was pitted with us. Super cool guy, really likes his Porsche's.

The tangerine 914-6 between the two LE's is mine, and I had loads of fun even though I didn't "win." Got to meet a ton of nice people, see a ton of great cars and catch up with old friends. The judging seemed a little "clubby" to me, and I was disappointed that the score sheets weren't available following the awards, as I would have liked to see where points were deducted. My car is freshly restored, and that's why I entered it.
Bob's car was very nice, and it was impressive that it has more than 100,000 miles and is as clean as it is. I off-loaded my car in Salinas Thursday afternoon and drove it about 150 miles before arriving at the show Friday morning. There was so much "dirt" due to the few hours of driving, that I have a hard time understanding how anyone can actually drive a car and enter it in these full concours events where it's all about clean. Now that my concours season is over, I look forward to driving it!
Thanks for posting the photos!
May of the local PCA region show and shines are peoples choice. I would never expect my car to win anything at an event like this, or any other. The last show and shine I went to I bought $35 in raffle tickets and won: A case of Brad Penn, A bottle of wine, A paintless dent repair and a bottle of wax. I then sold the case of Brad Penn for $35. Win, win!
1.8 liter. 325 horse power!! Your car wins the "BADASS" award.
and I bought the case of brad penn. win win and another win

Well...
There was a 914, the same one in three different pictures. Too many pictures of old, slow, original Porsches.
Yes, Elliott, it did seem a little insulting, especially when the email they sent to us said, "Be sure to look for your Porsche." The 'ugly stepchild' NARP mentality lives on. The water cooled guys are probably just as ticked off, if not more so.
I should point out that, while the 914-4s were deemed not worthy, George's tangerine 914-6 did make it into the non-featured photos. There's a shot of him polishing those incredible gas burners:
