ha, I was just reading the article and was about to post to this site. Good to finally get some additional recognition!

It's on the same list as a Fiat x-19.

That's not good.

Same list as a Pantera.

And don't underestimate the X/19. With proper maintenance, they're a very good car.

I might have added a TVR Tasmin, but all pretty good company

I largely agree with the listings although surprised to see a Sunbeam Tiger as underrated. The Datsun 2000 was a good forerunner to the 240Z.

I like these two 914 responses the best, in the Jalopnik article:

"I don't think the 914 is underrated, it just isn't rated. Man those things are ugly and barely sniffed 100hp. Never driven one, can anyone give me an idea? Is it a snoozer or decently fun to drive?"

"Yea I can imagine, they just look so awkward that it has lead me to believe the handling would be approximately the same. Just figured I would ask for a real opinion since I have never sat in one, much less taken turns in one."

A few weeks ago, saw a mint condition Sunbeam tiger in a local parking lot. Sure was a beauty!

I wish the posters had to include their age. I think most are younger than the cars, did not grow up with or around them, have never driven one addmittedly, and have not a clue.

I have a 30 year old son that just doesn't get it. He thinks I am crazy, should sell out, buy a Cayman, or something.

Of Course, he drives a civic, if he would come visit I might let him try it dry.gif

A month or two back, I almost collected a Tiger. As in, hit it with my car. I think the owner forgot to hook up his brake lights, and I was too busy staring at the car and drooling to notice he had slowed down significantly...

In a classic car meeting I met a guy who was interrested in buying a 914 but never drove one.
I had him sit as passenger for a short trip to show him what that handling reputation was about.
After the first turn he said: " I need one ! ... "

Clearly you've never driven an X. That chassis makes the 914's seem like a wet noodle. Not a lot of power but almost as much fun to drive.

Not surprised by the MR2, I owned a turbo gen 2 & loved it. Powerful, reliable & sexy I hated selling it, but my LE needed a paint job & that's how I paid for it. Mid engined & the T tops always leaked in the rain... just like a teener! laugh.gif

I love how people think a car that won the Import Car of the Year is underrated. I think some just forgot about it too.

Someone in the thread even said the Boxster was underrated...that thing's been on the C&D top 10 lest forever.

Can't believe I was getting butterflies while watching a video presentation for a 75 for sale.

Reminds me how I felt way back in 1970 when I first saw the ad in Playboy and went out and bought a 4.

I truly suspect an editor on Jalopnik is on this forum.
