914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Ahoy, question for Capt Obvious: 914 ECU

Posted by: c12croft Jul 20 2014, 01:55 PM

Preface: Nor would I ever endorse the butchering of Dr Porsche's well intended fuel injection design in our Type lV Fours.
However. My 914 came with its fuel delivery v. O2 management system (cam incl) already converted by the P.O. probably back in the day when man's inhumanity to machines was endemic and carb conversions were all the rage. Oh, the shame of it all:(
That said, I probably speak only for myself, but we ignoramuses being too lazy to research the answer ourselves want to know,
Is the ECU needed for the proper operation of Weber carburetors???
Thank you

No.

No ecu needed for the carbs .

I'm beginning to think those cute little mystery boxes are superfluous with my dual carb gas thirsty '80's stopgap to a '60's lifestyle.

Why then I see so many carb'ed 914s with the damn ECUs still intact?
Naivety, ignorance , apathy?

Or too lazy to unbolt them?

Could be a multipack unit also...otherwise it's not required.

Maybe they leave them in place to cover up the hellhole...

You sure you don't mean a CD Ignition?
