My car leaves er, oil. Looking at the dipstick there are two lines on the flat face and another line a quart higher on the rounded side. Is that high mark stock? Or might it as I now suspect have been put there by a previous owner. I have been maintaining at the highest mark. Might I throw oil doing that? Does anyone else have it marked that way? Cannot post pictures at present.
Thanks. Oh, 1976 914-4 2.0
You should only use the flat side for measuring. Do not overfill your engine.
I checked ten dip sticks I have and none have a mark on the round side. Sounds Like a PO mod.
I usually run 1/2 qt. over at oil change. I cut a mark on my dipstick to show the level. My .02c. for the am.
Never had an issue. My kids used to take a couple 90 degree section corners in Montana at a good clip.
Dad is the oil light supposed to come on when I go around the corner?
The extra 1/2 qt. took care of it.
Adding an extra 1/2 quart to a 914 has been around for years. We started doing it back in the 80 while autocrossing to prevent the oil pressure light from coming on during hard cornering. Read it in VW/Porsche magazine.
Just don't do more than the 1/2 quart.
I just checked mine and it still has 3 lines. I filljust over upper line.

I still wonder why the dipstick marks are so different on my 914 and on "same" 1.7 engine from a VW411. Both '72 models.
(Yes dipstick dubes are identical)
