914World.com _ 914World Garage _ taurus v6 motor in a 914?

Posted by: cggrimes Jul 30 2014, 07:06 PM

Have access to an 03' ford taurus 3liter engine and the vin to the car is bad so it's a freebie. Any thoughts on putting it in a914?

It's tall for the 914 engine bay. There's a thread here somewhere about somebody who started one. Don't know of one that got finished though.

I used to laugh when I saw SHO molded into the bumper of some Ford heavy pigs that my '70 510 with a hot L20B would smoke! And that was straight line up a hill, let alone the corners. But Yamaha did make a good engine.

You have to ask yourself how much time and effort you are willing to invest in putting that engine in.

If you have the fabrication skills to design and make all of the necessary parts then why not put a more interesting engine in?

If you just want somewhere to store your jackstands under for the next six year then go for it! beerchug.gif

Isn't someone doing that?

I think they are doing a 3.2 SHO engine.
Free isn't always cheap in the long run.
Having owned a Taurus with a 3.0 I would not do it. Not a lot of he for the weight.
I think it was about 140 hp.
Went through water pumps about every 30000 miles.

Then how about a chipped ALH? I believe they're good for about 170 hp, and lots of torque for a 1.9.

Didn't Audi have some success somewhere with turbo diesels? confused24.gif happy11.gif

A 55 mpg 914...
