914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 914 Seat Covers

I live in FL and 914 "leatherette" vinyl is HOT and most unforgiving in 90+ degree heat. It's like sitting on a hot griddle when getting into the car. I'd like to find some period-correct seat covers for summer, either OG or replicas, or something that would look period-correct.

PS the wooden beads slide too much and can puncture the vinyl.

And suggestions on what to fet and where to get them are most appreciated. Thanks!

At one time, I purchased some 'service covers' for my seats, and they came in a tan fabric that was cool. When I reupholstered the interior, I had Autos International use a corduroy insert for the seating surface, and that's worked well.

Would sheepskins be period correct?

Evidently they are good for summers too... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheepskin_seat_cover

Yes sheep skin would be. Cracked and the only thing I can think of. But I haven't found any that fit properly.

fake sheep skins from pepboys fit the 911 perfectly fine for a seat cover.
Same issue with a cabriolet....hot seats.

They are awesome in the sunshine....no heat at all.

Yeah but I'm looking for 914 seats. 911 seats are larger (unless you mean the early 911s without the headrest, which are still wider).

I've seen these sheepskin seat covers in Hisashi's '72 Willow Green 914. They look so nice, I've tried to get Hisashi to sell them to me, but he (wisely) has refused. Unfortunately, I don't know who makes them, and the pictures below really don't do them justice. But notice in the link to the old 'for sale' thread that the car came from New Mexico. Overland is a very high end sheepskin manufacturer that used to be headquartered in New Mexico. Maybe, just maybe, that's the manufacturer of Hisashi's sheepskin covers. And if it is Overland, you can get them to do custom 914 sheepskin seat covers for the princely sum of $749 per pair.

I don't think plaid would be original for an LE. I think plaid didn't show up until the '75 model year.

Yeah, actually I LOVE the plaid. And I thought about getting a second set of seat inserts with the plaid for summer. But yeah, not LE correct. If I ever get another 2nd 914, it will definitely have the plaid in it. I love it on that car.

Those sheepskin covers are nice! The couple I've seen are not smooth and soft looking like those. And all of them are too big for 914 seats (as seats are much larger).

I do appreciate the feedback for sure! I thought most overlooked a/o forgot about this thread. I know I live in FL but I'm sure lots of other people would be interested in proper or period correct seat covers too. smile.gif

Found some other tailor-made sheepskin covers for a lot less than $749 Overland pair for those interested (same Australian Merino sheepskin). Still looking at these and other sheepskin and other period-correct options. Any other suggestions?

I also am looking for someone who can do a set of plaid seats for me. I'm searching the forum, because I remember seeing a thread about them, but can't find it. So, who has a recommendation?
