I have a silver roller, and I have decided on keeping it silver.
I don't remember where I picked up this picture, but I modified it and I'm thinking of doing something like this... Silver with blacked out chrome.

I love your car Jim, I actually have another shot of it as my wallpaper right now! The Boxter wheels really set it off too. Now about those late model bumpers, don't you know someone who needs a boat anchor...........or two?

Imagine this:
You just spent 6 hours clay barring, then polishing, then washing, then waxing and detailing your black car.
You are pissed that all you can see is imperfections, and while you are finishing the back of the car, the front is already dirty.
I will never own another black car again.
They look great for the 20 seconds they are clean.
or maybe i should go with these colours instead

Black will show all imperfections in the bodywork much more so than silver.
I was up against the very same question; silver or black? Every time I said no more black cars for me, I'd either think of my original blk/blk '73 I bought new, happen across a nice pic of a black car on this Forum, or see a stunning example of a well kept black (any) Porsche. However, living on the edge of the desert in SoCal is not the place to own black, BTDT.......It's like climbing into a furnace! This is light color country. So silver it is. Not to derail this thread, but which silver works the best on a 914? The ones' I've considered are: Silver Metallic, Arktissibler metallic (arctic, I assume), and Meridian metallic. All are Porsche colors. I'm leaning Arktissibler. Agree, Jim's car is a nice silver!
Andy
Another vote for Arctic silver... here's mine. Gotta get some more recent pics!

nynone4 - nice, clean look...Did you go with black rubber molding
around the windshield? If so what did you use? Can't tell from the pic!
Oh yea! your garage is way too clean, you must have maid service !

Nothing looks better than a nice clean black car.
It's a PITA to get it clean and impossible to keep it that way. I own a black 914 and I love / hate it. If silver and black are your only 2 choices, I would pick silver. Why not red or yellow or blue or green, or purple or orange or . . . . . . ? Ya know - something really bright. I do like your ideal for blacked out chrome. I think it looks good on any color car.
I like the black one, but I also have a blue one.

There's a guy here on the board that can put a scheme together for you if you ask nicely. You tell him what wheels and bumpers you have and whether you have flares or not and what color you want everything to be.
This is my plan for later this year (or next....or maybe the year after that...).

Black is not hard at all to keep clean if you keep the car garaged as you should when not in use and you don't drive it in the rain.

Black...with accents.

My next 914 will be silver. It's always been my favorite color on a car. Unfortunately, I have YET to own one. I keep getting 'deals' on colors I really hate. Even though I'm re-painting my 73, I'm going to keep it the yellow that it was.
Next year, I plan on building a Silver 914-6 with ox-blood leather interior. I've always wanted that color combo on a teener.
Black is definitely the best looking color in photos, but many times they are 10 foot paintjobs. for example:

Flat black is awesome on ANY car....

Eddie, nice flares. Very nice.
Don't MAKE me post a pic of Frankenstealth.....
