I bought new cooper gaskets for the exhaust..

just curious if I should use them or just use what is there now?

also what size bolts for the exhaust hanger to the transmission? 1.7L 73

Use the new ones, and anneal them first.

Heat them with a plumbers torch until you see a dim glow.
I let them cool as slowly as possible, but some say that is not required.

"Where"? Practically everyone that sells VW T2 and 914 parts carries them in both sizes (1.7/1.8 and 2.0).

They are referring to the gaskets at the heads not the ones between the muffler and heat exchangers. You want the more compressible sandwich gasket at the muffler.

Ok, I thought he was talking about exhaust gaskets in copper, not the head gaskets. I thought the head gaskets only came in copper.
