17,800 for that lovel.... lovel........ lovely car seems so unfair
why does the racecar still have big bumpers? is that some kind of a regulation, or just personal taste
The second one
I like this '73 RS
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=179870
that red one looks like a chalonaco (chalon + rayco = chalonaco)
Why is the 75 just a 4 speed? The 2005 blurb is identical to the 2004 blurb, complete with spelling mistakes. Just does not seem right.
Well.....lets say you had a car and wanted to establish a value. So you put it up for auction and have a shill (or two) bid the price up to a preset amount. You could also hope that a third party gets the auction fever and joins in. You pay commission on both the sale price and the bid price (I think BJ charges 10% each way) so the value is established and it costs you $356 (10% of $17,800 X 2) Then you hang on to the car and put it back up for auction. Of course they anounce that the car is a repeat sale and the last time the car was sold it went for X $'s. This is then the base line for future bidders.
Or the guy who bought it two years ago is a bad speller and got tired of the car, so he's dumping it.

Flying down to Scottsdale/Phoenix tommorrow. I don't think I will be buying either of those 914s. Although there is a 2200 mile car there, LOT # 319 I think it has been around here before?? Lots of nice hot rods to look at.

Hey FriarJohn I am tasteless as well, and I like that phase III.
I also like eating a ham and mayonaisse sandwich with a Chipsahoy cookie mooshed in the middle. Seriously.
kind of reminds me of kissing the dog good-bye after he just ate some cat shit.
This little racer went for $4644.

Well today proved to be exactly why I went to the Barrett Jackson.Standing next to Reggie Jackson while he spoke to Harold Wanlass, a famous auotmobilia sculptuor. Checking th egoodies at Racers, and in walks Alan De Cadinet, and I parked out next to Brock Yates. And I get to see this
914 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=179414
Go through the auction and bring a final bid of $14580.
I was standing looking at this car, and I looked in the engine bay and the interior. I have to tell you
Words will not describe how badly this car was customized. And then to sell for that kind of money.
But then there were many more highlights. Like the 66 Mustang onvertible, that brought $26450, yeha. I just bought one, so that makes me feel good. I just might bring it to BJ next year, along with a 914 or 2.

Well another amazing day at the BJ. The crowds were out in record numbers for a Friday, Weather was perfecr, sunny blue sky.
Talked with Boyd Coddington and saw some of his cars there for sale. Spoke to a couple of the guys from the BJ Car Search show, the large bald guy from Georgia and Scotty Gray from Texas.
We saw some amazing prices for cars that you would normally see on Prime Time. 59 Corvette $115,000. 65 GTO conv, $98,000.
I spoke to the guy who bought the 914 race car. He didn't know anything about the cars , but thought that it would be fun to have something he could use in Vintage racing, he is from Canada.
He said the car would not start later in the day after he bought it. I asked him if he put the key in the external safety switch, if it might start?? He said DOH, you might be right.
We spoke for quit awhile, later said "I learned more in 3 minutes from you, than I did from the seller in 2 hours of talking to him. Whatever. Nice guy, he did okay, he might sell it to one of his buddies in Canada.
In the parking lot today when I was leaving, not one, two Carrera GTs a silver and a black one. Plus one black Mercedes Mclaren SLR. WOW
Net stuff today a the same will probably happen again tommorrow. See ya.

Hey Craig thanks for the on the scene reports, sounds like a good time for car people.
My dad used to go every year when my folks lived in Scottsdale. Would love to check it out in person but the Speed channel is as close as I'll get this year.
Sean
Well today is the crazy day. Buyers are going absoluteley insane on the prices they are paying for some of these cars. You would think that they will never get another chance to buy one again.
The place is packed like sardines in a can. I am suprised the fire dept. lets this many people in one structure. The restrooms have been overflowing, sorry. The Barrett Jackson merchandise vendors(t shirt and baseball caps) are wiped out at the end of the day. The food vendors are work there fingers to the bone. Long lines everwhere. It is just amazing, I don't remember seeing so many people at one event.
The cars are some of the best you can find, but I have seen a few dogs, honest, not all are trailer queens, they are even selling for a good price.
Corvettes and Camaros, Hemis are all the hot ticket this year. I was suprised the 73 Carrera RS only sold for $97k, nice car, wrong market.Ford GT $300k GT 350 and 500s $100to 200K. Today I saw Tim Allen, talked to alot of the sellers they are really pumped on the action that is taking place.
This is a great event, but you really need a bidders pass, especially if you are going to be here for more than a day. Leaving Sunday, I hope to come back next year with a few cars to sell.
I went to look at a local 68 Camaro rs/ss Conv big block for a friend last night, in the Phoenix area. After looking at all of the cars at BJ I called my friend, he said it must have looked like a real dog after seeing the BJ cars, and I said yes you are correct.

the '75/76 style bumpers are more aerodynamic and allow for easier fitting of oil coolers......most of the good kit;s for 914's have the '75/'76 bumper style, it's better than the bulldozer front end of the earlier cars smile.gif |
Mike this is the daily report from BJ.

Barrett-Jackson. Lots of people with lots of money bidding on lots of cars. Sounds like lots of fun.
Cheers, Elliot
